Botanicula is now my favorite point-and-click adventure game, because it’s the only one I’ve ever managed to beat without a walkthrough! Well I lie, I had to use a walkthrough ONE time. But yeah, it’s quite easy compared to similar games I’ve played, and as a result, I found it much more enjoyable, because I wasn’t lost all the time.

It’s also made in Flash, and shows that Flash games can look and sound really good. If you like games with unusual art styles, you should check it out.

easy achievements are always a plus.

brief fun game. doubt you'll get past 10 hours of total playtime. I have all the achievements with my current play time, and while its very cute, I probably will not be playing through again.

Трудно сегодня найти адвенчуру причудливее чем Botanicula. Если предыдущие творения студии Amanita Design четко следовали выбранному вектору и были вполне себе обычными арт-хаусными проектами, то в Botanicula градус безумства поднят на новую высоту. Главный идеолог студии Якуб Дворски в этот раз ограничился продюсированием, а у руля проекта встал его коллега. Игра не стала хуже, но общая атмосфера и послевкусие существенно отличаются от предыдущих игр коллектива.

Как и раньше нам предстоит исследовать новый незнакомый мир, населенный причудливыми существами, продвигаясь к своей цели. Героев отныне пятеро и каждый наделен своей персональной способностью. Правда, пользоваться ими приходится строго по воле геймдизайнера. Да и, справедливости ради, большую часть игрового времени мы заняты не столько решением головоломок, сколько изучением окружающей флоры и фауны. На это, собственно, и сделан основной упор. Каждое встречное существо, будь то крошечная муха, исполинская улитка, или черт-знает-что-с-ушами заносится в особую картотеку, где к концу игры набирается больше сотни карточек с монстриками. Коллекционированием, сованием нос в каждый угол, щупанием и тыканием нам предстоит заниматься практически всю игру. Квестовый элемент, к слову, развит здесь больше, чем в том же "Машинариуме". Нам регулярно приходится что-то искать, находить какие-то предметы, потерянные местными обитателями и прокладывать себе дорогу вперед, порой вступая в схватку с представителями местного террариума. Из недостатков: однотипная визуальная составляющая, непрорисованные задники из-за чего игра кажется однообразной. Зато звуковое оформление отменное!

Причудливая помесь из гротескных форм, изгибов и звуков. Настоящий интерактивный перфоманс для ценителей жанра.

Trying to find a game that could look as peculiar and weird as Botanicula would be a real challenge, since it's definitely one of a kind. Previous Amanita Design studio's creations followed it's own path and fitted pretty well in their own art-house terms and concepts they had proclaimed. Despite of this, Botanicula looks even more crazy than any of it's predecessors. Jakub Dvorsky, being a head and guru of Amanita Design studio decided to act as a producer this time giving a card blanche to one of his colleagues.

Just as before we need to explore a brand new world, populated by strange and never seen/imagined before kinds of critters. We got a power team this time which consists of 5 heroes instead of one and each of them possesses one unique ability he can use to pass the hurdle. Sadly, we can't use this ability anywhere, only when game designer say so. Anyway, major part of the game is dedicated to exploring, searching, peeking into every hole, nook and cranny. Every creature we meet be that a tiny flea, huge snail or hell-knows-what-with-tentacles has it's own special collectible card we keep safe in our improvised "card index" located in upper left corner of the screen. Paying attention to things happening in the game, our card collection grows by the minute, turning into a full-grown set consisting of more than 100 cards. Since it's an adventure game, a process of seeking, solving and using items is well implemented here. We always on a lookout for something or someone missing, busy gathering a set of items or looking for a way to pass or walk around a monster. Downsides: lame visuals and lackluster backgrounds which gives rather tedious and boring feel sometimes. Can't say the same about audio design though. The game sounds just great.

Bizarre fusion of grotesque forms, curves and sounds. An intereresting interactive performance for connoisseurs.

Botanicula is a work of love, wonder at every screen, laugh at every surprise, sure its not for everyone, but if you believe that modern videogames are the ultimate form of entertainment, then Botanicula will undoubtedly leave you wanting more, few games have heart and even fewer magic.
Botanicula has both.

Enjoy this "simple" gem for what it is, a true modern masterpiece in every sense, in its simplicity lies its wonder, playing it makes you feel like a child again, full of amazement, full of joy...
