About This Game

Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts have peculiar jobs: They give people another chance to live, all the way from the very beginning... but only in their patients' heads.

Due to the severity of the operation, the new life becomes the last thing the patients remember before drawing their last breath. Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives, but didn’t.

This particular story follows their attempt to fulfill the dream of an elderly man, Johnny. With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.

And Johnny's last wish is, of course... to go to the moon.

Amazing experience for first time play through.

It's an easy game to play through.
It emotionally grabbing.
I smiled, I laughed, I cried, and I strongly recommend this if you got nothing to do for a few hours.

It's worth it.

The story in this game is enough to pull you in and make you laugh, cry, and angry, and then happy. It's been an awfully long time since a video game story was able to keep me entraced to play it through all in one go. Very simple game play, but the game itself was well worth the time in my book.

So this review is long overdue, but no matter.
After having gone through the game several times over, it is about time. So here we go.

To The Moon review: short version. (for all the tl;dr people out there, let's get right into the good stuff).

*The story in this game is very gripping.
*The overall design is well done.
*The mood is just right.

To The Moon takes you on a journey that will make you laugh & cry. The story is well written, the art is surprisingly well done. As is the scripting.
The game isn't super long, but the story contents is well worth it, in all honesty. After having gone through the game to check for bugs & other options during gameplay, I can honestly say that I find nothing truly wrong with the game itself. All I found was one -tiny- glitch point that didn't really change anything. All it did was allow me to take one more step in that direction.
One of the best parts of this game is that the story isn't spoon-fed to the player. You are put to the task of exploring even the smallest of possibilities, learning more as you go. A puzzle here & there, talking. And the more you find out, the more you want to keep searching to find the truth.
I'll be honest. Once I started playing, I couldn't stop. In the end, I literally could NOT stop myself from shedding tears.
If you want a good story-driven RPG that is light enough in size & you can just relax with, then this is the game for you.
So if you haven't tried it yet, I highly suggest checking it out. It is money well spent for such a beautiful game.

So out of a possible 5 on my Demanding Gamer scoring system, I rate this game 4.9/5

To the Moon is clearly one of the best games I've played.

I must admit that it was hard for me to get used with the 16bit graphics, but after half an hour I got used to it. Don't let the graphics make you think twice before purchasing this game, Everything is so good about it, that graphics don't count.

The great story is supported by the excellent original music, which makes the atmosphere even greater.

So, To the Moon. What should I say? It's a brilliant story, I'll say that. As you play, everything comes together, like pieces in a puzzle. It's definitely worth playing, and the ending is, vague spoilers, wonderfully happy, something that isn't seen in an awful lot of story-based video games. There are no downsides to it. There's not much to break down about it, but I'll try to summarise the following.

First of all, I have a 1080p screen, and it's fine if a game doesn't support that, but for me, the screen didn't even display in 16:9 px ratio, which it clearly should have considering the squashed look of it. But, apart from that, the graphics are of a consistent, retro, pixel style, which, in my opinion, suited the game perfectly. I don't think that it would have been the same had the graphics been more realistic or of any other style for that matter.

The soundtrack is brilliant. It sets the mood for each scene and I love the incorporation of soundtracks into the plot, adding meaning behind what was coming out of your headphones as well as emotion.

Simplistic though it was, the plot was moving and unravelled in a well-formatted sequence. It's not often that a story is told from end to beginning, but I think that this was structured perfectly. It worked for me and kept me engaged and, I admit, my eyes did water at the end, and that's a first in the realm of video games and a second in the realm of fiction in its entirety.

Now, is this everyone's cup of tea? No, I would definitely say that it's suited to a specific genre of gamers. If you like story-driven games which aren't, admittedly, that deep and meaningful but still give you a luxorious quantity of the feels? This is for you. Prefer action? There's absolutely none in this game. Want something with metaphorical value? Probably not for you, but hey, still might hit you in the feels. Want a long game? Well, I just played this for four hours straight and finished it, so probably not for you. But, is it a good game? Subjectively, absolutely. Just perhaps not to every single gamer's likeability.

Worth the money, in my opinion. Not much else to comment on in terms of pricing.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes plot-driven games or puzzle solving, even if it doesn't quite sound to your liking. Great if you want a quick dose of the feels.

There's a perfect word to describe this game: Masterpiece.
To the Moon is one of the best story-telling games I've ever played.

You can feel the touch of life and death on it. The convincing love story that isn't cliche, the details of a romantic life, well... the true love.
If you love reading books, this is your kind of game. It will make you laugh, cry, be surprised, be shocked, everything..!

Besides a overpass gameplay, it will touch your soul.
I have no more words to say about "To the Moon", let it speaks for itself.

Gifted by a friend, I had no idea what this game was. A wonder! I recommend it without a single doubt.

Basically it is rather something to watch than something to play as it is all about the story. Few actions are required from the player, which most of the time are easy. Make sure to read as it is the core of the game, and give it more than an hour to get into its story.

- Excellent storyline. Captivating and pushes the player to have some kind of reflexion about it. Despite the player being quite passive the story will push you to continue if you pay attention to it.
- Soundtrack is superb
- the 16-bit style does it justice - yes I know this sounds weird.
- Text. Suits the game perfectly and - to me - was very pleasant as it gives some room for imagination.
- Those entertaining flipping puzzles

- At times I found the controls/mouse precision to be a little bit annoying but it was no big deal tbh.

'To The Moon' is a truly great game that remains memorable long after the final scene fades. An adventure like no other, with an incredibly clever story. A very touching love story. Funny and emotional, sad, witty, smart - what a dramaturgy.
'To the Moon' left tears on my keyboard and a wonderful soundtrack in my ears.

Well... had my attention for a full 4 hours. Not sure about its classification as a 'game'. I felt like I'd watched an interactive movie. Would recommend on that basis.

To The Moon is a game like I've never seen before. Although the game mechanics are very simple (some would not even call it a 'game') the story is truly something. It is charming and heartbreaking, very easy to become emotionally attached to. The soundtrack is brilliant and brings more magic to this beautiful story.

...the feels! 10/10

Highly recommend this game, played it back when it first came out before it came out on Steam, and then have played it twice since then. Brilliant game, while the gameplay itself is simple, it's not a game to play if you're looking for action or adventure.

This is a game about story, about memories, about FEELINGS.

So if you don't like feelings, or like crying, don't play this game.

If you LOVE story, regardless of genre, this game is definitely something to look into.
