About This Game

Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts have peculiar jobs: They give people another chance to live, all the way from the very beginning... but only in their patients' heads.

Due to the severity of the operation, the new life becomes the last thing the patients remember before drawing their last breath. Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives, but didn’t.

This particular story follows their attempt to fulfill the dream of an elderly man, Johnny. With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.

And Johnny's last wish is, of course... to go to the moon.

"The ending isn't any more important than the moments leading to it."

I've back to this game after years and I still love it. One of the best story i ever seen. Simple gameplay, Amazing soundtrack "For the River" and Perfect Story.

Well this game has been rattling around my library for quite some time now, I finally clicked "play". Then I didn't get out of my chair for the next 3 hours.

To the Moon is a great story, the whole game plays out like a nice movie. A few 4th wall breaking references here or there, some comic relief, and of course TONS of sappiness. I really wasn't sure what to expect going into this, but with so many positive reviews and such a neat pricetag I remained fairly optimistic, and honestly any expectations I might've had were blown out of the water by what this game really delivered. I didn't think such a story could be told in this format, I didn't know that so few pixels could make me experience so many feels..

I can't make a pros/cons list for this game really. It wouldn't really make sense. If you want to sit back and casually navigate your way through a captivating story then this game might be for you! If you're looking for a more interactive experience - or maybe want to blow some ♥♥♥♥ up - I wouldn't recommend this for you.

Honestly even if this isn't the type of game you think you'd enjoy I would still recommend waiting for a sale and giving it a shot, I spent 2$ and then one day I was in the mood for something different, and now here I am adding another thumbs up to the mountain of positive reviews this game has :)

OK, with that out of the way, we can finally get to business.

The game To the Moon is a story driven game where the player takes control of two scientists who are sent to an old mans' home to work in his memories to send him to the moon. It has many moments to make you smile, and many moments to make you cry, as well as some to bring about both reactions at one time.
  • The gameplay is relatively nonexistent, however, it fits the game and how it was intended to be played. It consists of walking around a memory finding key memory orbs, as well as a memory link (if you're struggling, try the platypus.) Once you unlock the link, you solve a tile puzzle, then repeat the process. (If you're still struggling, move your cursor slowly over people or walk somewhere you didnt think you had to go.) There was one area where the gameplay got a bit different, which some may like, while it just broke my immersion.
  • The simple mechanics made this game easy to play, but also easy to get bored while playing for some.
  • The graphics were beautiful. They flowed smoothly for a pixelated game, and everything blended together well. Some may say that "You need to be able to see what to interact with and what not to!" But that simply isn't the case in this game. The fun is in the hunt for what you need. Of course, some things you will find will be a given whenever present, but for the beginning and a few things in each memory, the graphics play beautifully into it.
  • Last and certainly not least, the soundtrack. Pardon me as I fanboy. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I think, nope, not done. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! OK definitely done now. In short terms, buy it, I did, and I have no regrets. In long terms, this games soundtrack is gorgeous. It makes use of the piano as the base for all songs, adding strings in some, not much else for others. It captures the mood of the story so well, and almost carries meaning in and of itself. My favorite is every single one. It reuses songs a lot, but they are so beautiful I still listen to them in my day to day life. If you buy this game for NOTHING else, buy it for the music. It is superb.

While this game may seem boring, it can get emotionally attaching, especially for those in a relationship or very close with another person. I repeatedly kept looking at my own life and thinking, "Yeah, that sounds familiar!" While other times I looked at my own life going "OH NO, WHY IS THIS SO FAMILIAR!" And proceeded to cry for the next couple minutes, trying to play the game still. This is definitely a game to make you feel happy, sad, and even maybe a bit mad, but not a game for mindless joy.

I played this game completely open to myself, my life, and people around me. I tried to find parallels, or think to the future in order to connect to what was happening. I am certainly no old man, so it helped to think about how it would be to be taking my final breaths. I could do this safely, I have what I would classify as a strong mind. However, I know some people very close to me that tried that and got highly anxious, some even breaking down completely. If this may be you, please, do not feel pressured to play this way, and don't try to. Besides that, try to play the game by putting yourself inthese situations. Try to put yourself in the shoes of an old man wanting to go to the moon, try to put yourself in the feet of a young man marrying a woman with a mental disorder.
Finally, be prepared to cry. This story is so tragic, it isnt even the love story. In one scene, the big twist, a mother accidentally hits her son with her car, killing him. It turns out to not be the old man (obviously), but instead his twin brother. After that, it's revealed he was given beta blockers, a drug to essentially delete traumatic memories. His mother is actually so distraught, she starts acting like the living twin is the dead twin, calling him the dead ones name, Joey, and almost forcing him to live the life his twin brother wanted to live.

Anyway, this game is so touching and amazing, with some funny moments, sad moments, and joyful moments.

I rate it 9.7/10 PLATYPUSES

*Non Spoiler Review*

Even though at the very beginning I was put off by the old styled, low-resolution graphics and without any previous knowledge about this game, it very quickly grew on me soon after I started it.

The dialogues, sadly all just in written form, are both funny and extremely touching.

And... I... have... never... before... cried... this... much... in my life, because of a video game!!!

Seriously, how can such a "simple" point & click puzzle adventure move me to tears?
Answer: The story! The characters!
Even though they're just plain pixels, you feel a deep connection to these characters, from the two buddy scientists to the tragic couple with a very complex backstory which unfolds chapter after chapter, memory after memory.

Gameplaywise you won't be overwhelmed, though sometimes still a bit challenged, especially when you can't find all the necessary clues at first or have to figure out the minigames.
But with some time you'll get the groove of it.
Also there's always some good humour interjected into the experience.

Nevertheless, when you finally have reached the ending, and you've both laughed and used enough tissues to wipe away your tears (stop being so dirty minded, people!), there's just one thing to say: WOW!

A big bravo to the people who wrote this story and developed the characters.
This would actually make an excellent mini series (for a feature film it might be a bit too long)!

I was sceptical about this game, my BF almost forced me to play it.. and it was a wonderful, touching experience. The story is so complicated, with plot-twists and a lot of pop culture references.. can't wait for the sequel.

Where do I begin.

I can't begin to express what I'm feeling right now, and I would never want too. I'd want you to experience yourself. I used to scroll past this game every time I ever looked through the recommended listings in the Steam Store as I deemed it as something I wouldn't like.

I was dead wrong.

Without ruining anything about the game, if you love RPG games, not nessecarily horror games, but any RPG games, I would highly recommend this one. Play with an open mind, and an open heart. "To the Moon" will rock your world.

The story of that game is very deep and charming, also sad. Simple gameplay, lovely music and pixel art.
I clicked play and got stuck on my chair. The plot developped in that game is quite deep and brought me in various deep emotions. Somehow opened up few philosophical questions in my head... And I loved it :)

First time seeing an "Overwelmingly Positive" game being a complete meme.
-Very bad pixel art (probably default assets of some rpg maker version)
-the pathways are sometimes weird and not obvious enough and it gets frustrating even moving around. Add insult to injury it claims full controler support and my logitech is partly working ,I've also read bad things about xbox controlers.
-The gameplay is very repetitive and simplistic to the point it looks like it was made by junior high students. They couldnt even decide if they were going for a point and click game , rpg maker one or to use an NES dev kit as it seems.
-the dialogues involve childish humour and dull sequences very often.

If the story is only half as good as they say this might be your 5/10 time waster wannabe adventure game but judging by the sheer ammount of hype it had going on for it and the unbased mindless "epic story , much feels" everyone keeps mumbling about it i highly doubt it.

There are literal tons of games tagged "story rich" and "great soundtrack" but they usually have more video game ellements to show along with those. This is not the case ,wouldn't reccomend buying at 8 euro ,not even below 5 as there is much more quality available during sales in this price range.

This is a lovely story-game where the artistic aspects are of high aesthetic sensibilities, while the game interface struggles somewhat to catch up.

The story is educational, touching, heartfelt and is the core of 'To The Moon'. I found the two minisodes quite compelling too. 9.5/10
Music is exceptional for a game, some pieces are standouts. In the minisodes too. Particularly the piano pieces. Fine art. 10/10
Gameplay and UI: Has to live with shortcomings of the gaming engine. UI elements not always obvious; average controls; limited UI with controller; suboptimal use of screen real estate; low resolution,; difficulty in startup and setting up in proper aspect ratio, are some of the issues. The last one could be an issue specific to me, fixed by tweaking MS Windows graphics options. 6.5/10

Overall, looking past the small niggles of the gameplay, this game has some wonderful music, art and heart behind it. In all, 9.5/10.

I didn't like it. It was slow and boring. The controls are simplistic and the gameplay is repetitive.

I was also unable to get my xbox 360 wireless controller to work with the game. I definitely would not recommend this game to anyone.
