About This Game

Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts have peculiar jobs: They give people another chance to live, all the way from the very beginning... but only in their patients' heads.

Due to the severity of the operation, the new life becomes the last thing the patients remember before drawing their last breath. Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives, but didn’t.

This particular story follows their attempt to fulfill the dream of an elderly man, Johnny. With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.

And Johnny's last wish is, of course... to go to the moon.

To the Moon tells a powerful, moving story that is punctuated by a beautiful soundtrack to successfully achieve what many games try to do – leave a lasting impression.
But to overlook this unique game due to that would be a shame because you’ll miss out on an evocative, interactive storytelling experience. This bittersweet tale is a journey that is well-worth taking; it will make you laugh, and maybe even shed a tear or two.

You control Dr. Wyatt and Dr. Rosaleane, scientists who live in a world where it's possible to recreate memories. This enables the scientists to give dying people a chance to live out their final request – even if only in their minds. Our scientists start To the Moon by arriving at the house of a dying, elderly man named John, whose last wish is to visit the moon.
From this science-fiction premise evolves one of the most authentic and human stories told in a game in some time. And even this premise starts with a provocative and universal quandary: "How would my life have been altered if I'd taken a different path?"
From there, Eva and Neil worm their way into Johnny's past, starting with the recent past and moving backward. With each leap, Johnny's life and personality come more clearly into focus, even as several mysteries complicate the doctors' progress and threaten to potentially derail their success.

The discoveries and deductions that the pair make aren't just theirs; they're yours too. While the story's several strands tie together by the fabulous ending, To the Moon also asks you to read between the lines and draw your own conclusions.
Two significant plot points that the story hinges upon are deliberately obfuscated: they can be inferred from a great many references, but the game never feels the need to spell things out.
It's a consistently thoughtful game, and all it asks is that you apply some of the same thoughtfulness to your time with it.

It's a game of few pixels, but it makes every single one count. Characters' faces - barely a speck on the screen - are extraordinarily expressive, their body language precisely conveyed.
And despite featuring just a couple of cut-scenes, To the Moon manages to deliver gloriously cinematic sequences throughout, through its expert command of its art style and a stirring soundtrack filled with perfect motifs. One recurrent location is a cliff-top where a tall lighthouse overlooks the ocean, and it astonishes every time it's used. The tender musical melodies from the soundtrack. Wistful piano themes come in at the right moments and set the mood perfectly. Even the few tense moments in the game are accompanied by appropriately dramatic music to change the atmosphere entirely.

Its not easy to write about the game, because the only real reason to play it is the story. I could go deeper into the story, but spoiling it would be a great disservice to any potential players...
To the Moon captures in six hours many of the difficulties and feelings of what it’s like to live with the memories of the great and terrible times in our own lives. To the Moon is a game you must play!

Score: 81 / 100

This game had me from the start. I knew I was going to be filled with emotion following the story and the soundtrack. This was truly a little piece of hidden art. I actually did not want it to end and I must admit that I may have shed a tear. This is one of those stories that makes you not want to take a break to eat or take phone calls. If you want a game full of heart ... this would be your diamond!

I cried. And you'll cry. And you won't feel ashamed to cry for this game. 'Cause it's sad, and happy, and depressing, and enlightening at the same time. 'Cause it kicks right in the feels.

From time to time I load the OST and remember the story, and those feels... they're back. And the tears are almost back, almost always.

Definitely one of my favourite games ever. 6/5

I was very "reluctant" to play this game because the control, resolution and other technical things... Well I'm very happy about I ignored that stuff and I just enjoyed the travel through this wonderful story.

The music is great and plays a big role in the history. Very simple tracks but very touching. I'm writing this while I'm listening the main theme of the game. I love it.
I dont want spoil nothing but you will love the main chars and the references that they make to movies, anime, series and more.
This dont need explain. The big point of this game is this, so play it and discover what's hidden in this apparently simple game with rpgmaker graphics.

I didn't play this game before because this. Play with that crappy resolution and that black borders really annoying me but well, this deserve the effort but it's still horrible.
Arrows to move? Seriously?...

I can not do anything more except recommend you again to play this... Play, enjoy the story and cry like a little girl at the end for gaben sake.

What can I say? When I first booted up To the Moon I was expecting an RPG in the likes of final fantasy (based on the graphics). Instead what I got was a gripping and emotional rollercoaster ride filled with joy, love and loss. The characters have realistic personalities and funny at times which makes it easier to connect to them. The soundtrack is superb and does a marvelous job of setting the mood during gameplay. The story is the main attraction here, taking elements from Pixar's 'UP' as inspiration for the mature themes presented. The only fault is the gamplay, which is just moving around and doing simple puzzles, however the focus of this game isn't the gameplay (it's more like an interactive visual novel).

I highly recommend everyone to play this game or at least have a go. It's a story you won't forget.

*sigh* Completed 2 indie games in a row in one sitting? GG, no life.
WARNING:Possible implied spoilers (will try my best not to give out major ones)

!$@!$#$%#$ Where do I start? I felt like going on an indie game spree today, so I started off with the swapper then I end up here. "To the Moon" is most emotionally compelling game I've ever played, and that says a lot for 3 hours (other time spent afk), nothing compares to what this game gave in such a small amount of time. Don't let the $10 price tag fool you, if you can read I can assure you you'll get your money's worth 10 folds.

Although I've nitpicked "The Swapper" for it's lack of a challenge, "To the Moon" sets the bar so high I won't even dock points for it's simplicity(really, unless you can't read, there's no reason at all not to buy this game). For "emotionally compelling", I can defintely say this game leads closely towards the sad side. Kan Gao beautifully inserts questions into your mind while consistently lets you find out the answer for yourself, along this sea of grief, he seamlessly inserts halarious comic reliefs, such as the joke Final Fantasy styled battle at the beggining of the game (there really is no legit fighting).

Although I'd like to type more, It would end up with me giving major spoilers. As a note towards the ending, it's a little controversial and I'd agree that it could of been a little different in the audience's favor, in the end there's no denying that it's still extremely well done (along with the mind ♥♥♥♥ if you pay attention during the bridge scene and at the end of the credits). Coincidentially, I happen to be playing this game a week after it's successor, "A Bird Story" was released a week ago, it happens to be more story oriented and I will be looking foward to getting it with high expectations (not of that which compares to To the Moon however, we've seen this happen before and it does not end well with fans.)

Overall, one of my first legit reviews (You need to upvote my other ones, like now) 10/10. (11/10 if the movement was perfected --- that's really the only con for me)

EDIT: Can't believe I left off the part that contributed the most to the story--- THE MUSIC, transitioned well throughout the whole game

What an amazing story!

There really isn't much else to say about this game, actually don't think of it as a game as much as an interactive story-telling. I won't tell you the plot because I don't want to spoil it for you, all I can say is that it's most definitely worth playing through as you get quite involved with the characters. I played it all through in one go as I couldn't tear away from it.

Trust me, just experience it!
