About This Game

Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts have peculiar jobs: They give people another chance to live, all the way from the very beginning... but only in their patients' heads.

Due to the severity of the operation, the new life becomes the last thing the patients remember before drawing their last breath. Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives, but didn’t.

This particular story follows their attempt to fulfill the dream of an elderly man, Johnny. With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.

And Johnny's last wish is, of course... to go to the moon.

Damn I hate this game... I don't recommend it because you will be crying like a little girl (no offence to girls).

Damn, if you are a human being with a heart, feelings, and dreams, and want love in your life, had suffered losses and much more, in short lived life.

This game will touch you VERY VERY DEEP.

10/10 for me. I was crying all over Act 3.

To the Moon is a fantastic game. It made me so emotionally attached at every 20 minute mark, and made me cry at the end. Tears were shed. Bawls and sobs were let out. I'd give this an almost perfect for what it is 9.5/10. One of my new favorite games.

It's not just a tear-jerker... though that's what you'll remember it for. No actual RPG gameplay. It's mostly a guided story. Best played in a single 4-hour session, and the first hour or so is going to feel slow.

But it's an absolute must-play for anyone with a heart.

Not so much a game as an interactive movie, and I say that as someone who loves the Walking Dead game and played Xenosaga from beginning to end. Don't get me wrong, the story is killer and had me yelling "I'm okay, I'm okay!" to those around the house. But if you're looking for a "game", this probably won't be it. However, at only four hours, it wouldn't hurt to take a little detour down heartbreak road. Great music, charming graphics and the two playable characters are funny and likable. Recommend with tissues.

The soundtrack honestly made this game a lot better - very sentimental. I love story driven games, and this was perfect. I was hesitant at first on playing due to how it looks - but I put it aside and enjoyed it a lot.

This is the only game that has made me think "I should definitely write a review". I bought it in sales for about 2€ and and every euro/dollar/whatever you can pay for it will be worth it. I just love it. Incredible soundtrack and story. 10/10

To the Moon is a game that's hard to review, because it's hard to tell you in detail why it's great without spoiling anything. At the same time, if you just tell people a game is great and you can't tell them why, they're bound to avoid it because it raises expectations and they can only be disappointed from there.

So let me tell you instead what it isn't and work from there. To the Moon isn't your standard pixelated RPG with 20 hours of grinding and half a dozen colorfully troubled individuals who have to band together to save the world from an unspeakable evil. The only RPG it reminded me of is Chrono Trigger, and that only because, like Chrono Trigger, it has a soundtrack for the ages. The game elements in it are very shallow and you will never be required to make a meaningful choice anywhere. It's got just about enough interactivity that you can still call it a game rather than just a story, but at the same time it's clearly all about the story. And the story, when you get down to it, isn't even all that clever. It's got nothing in it that you haven't seen somewhere before, especially if you're a fan of unconventional drama or sci-fi crossing over with the mental landscape (think Memento, Inception, and especially Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). The story isn't a ripoff of anything, mind you, but if it was told in a straightforward manner it probably wouldn't impress you.

But the story isn't told in a straightforward manner, and this is where To the Moon really takes off (pardon the pun). This is the kind of material where it's so easy to become pretentious and melodramatic that the game goes into the territory of Art with a capital A just in the way it manages to avoid that. The framing story of two doctors who've done this all before and to who this is just another job (to the point of them making irreverent and occasionally downright crass comments about what's going on) keeps it firmly grounded. When there's a big emotional moment, the game no more than touches on it through the dialogue, never making the mistake of hitting you over the head with how you're supposed to feel. It leaves it all up to you whether you just want to say "good stuff" when you're finally at the end, or instead cry for five minutes straight, like I did. (The way I could empathize with one of the protagonists probably helped.)

How much do I like this? Let me put it this way: I got this for practically nothing as part of a bundle and left it lying on the shelf for a long time before giving it the old 30 minute tryout. Four hours and one handkerchief later I bought the game at full price on Steam just so I could put up this review. That's $2 per hour of memorable gameplay, and that's a better deal than you'll get from most summer blockbuster AAA titles.

I knew To the Moon received a lot of praise, I had it in my library for a long time but never tried it. I finally decided to see what is was about. It started slowly, it didn't catch my interest right away. But I kept playing past the first hour and could not put it away until it was over. I played the whole game in one sitting (4.5 hours), it was truly amazing.

The graphics are not what make this game great, the gameplay is minimalist, very linear as you cannot decide how the story will change, you just walk around and do whatever is required to keep the story unfolding in front of you. But the story is amazing, touching, sad and beautiful, sometimes funny, simply brilliant. It would make an awesome movie, I hope they do it someday. It would without any doubt become the best movie based on a video game ever made.

If you have a heart, you must play this game.

This is one of the best games i've ever played in my entire life so far. The game has a great story which makes you want to play the game over and over again. After just a couple of minutes of gameplay you notice how much time and thought the game developers have put into it. I recomend this to anyone who likes games with a good story and good music. You don't have to like RPG games to like this one. This is one of the few games that will probably make you cry. I can't wait till Freebird Games makes a sequel. The game is worth the money and i give it 12/10 stars

This gaaaame. I love this game so much. From the utterly captivating story to the interesting game mechanic of travelling through memories, this game delivers and more. And then to find out that one of the characters has Asperger's just like me was the cherry on top of the cake. Thank you for the lovely representation. <3

Very beautiful and emotional journey through the memories of a dying man whose last wish is to go to the moon. Two scientists travel back through his memories to fulfill his last wish, but that does not happen without some problems along the way. Told very nicely, excellent story and music, satisfying ending.

To the Moon tells one of the most heartwarming stories in gaming. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't enjoy it - it's truly a game for all ages. To say too much about the plot would ruin the magic, but just imagine if you had the power to give a dying person any wish they could desire. How would you do that?

True, the graphics are basic, but the beautiful music and characters more than make up for that.

My only complaint (if you can call it that) is that the gameplay is very minimal. Little beyond fetching items. So you won't lose much by watching a playthrough on YouTube.

But regardless of how you chose to experience this game, trust me, make sure you do. You will have a blast.

... a... blast off... to the Moon?

I tried.

If you are looking for a story-rich game then this for you. As you slowly connect pieces of the character's past you find yourself in a heartbreaking story about love and the difficulties of loving or being a neurodivergent person. The only thing that bothered me is that when River's doctor recommended that John read the book about Rivers condition he denied it? Maybe fearing what he might discover about her condition? But as a husband he should be more supportive towards her. And learning how it works and how to deal with it is super important. Plus he would show that he actually cared and wouldn't let River take the burden all by herself.
