Game Update 7 AUG 2014

August 7th, 2014

We just published a minor update on Steam that has the following changes in it:

  • Maps downloaded from the Workshop will update on the server automatically when they are updated on the Workshop
  • Added new server option to use server side hit detection for all weapons (bUseServerSideHitDetection = true under AAGame.AAGameReplicationInfo in DefaultGame.ini)
  • Caught and fixed and issue that would (very) rarely crash the server
  • Added server logs for secure, unsecure, revive, and player spotted events
  • Removed numerous unneeded client and server logging items
  • Fixed an issue where one could not join a server as an admin

  • Option to display framerate added under the Video settings; this is identical to the STAT FPS console command
  • Server broswer button removed from Shoot House UI
  • Fixed issue with the map vote list not being properly populated
  • Slums and Coldfront AAR next map images are no longer blurry
  • Switching between settings menus no longer causes some options to appear blank
  • The hit detection setting (server or client-side) setting is listed on the Server Info screen

  • Closed off unintended play areas in Coldfront
  • Added map descriptions to Coldfront and Slums

  • All roles numbers are now identical for both teams across all maps

  • M249 ammo bags on the Guinta range no longer clip into the table

  • Fixed issue where grenades would not collide with a staircase on Breach

  • Random sway position upon ADS removed
  • Two additional magazines added to M4 and M16; M14 and M24 got an additional magazine; shotgun got an extra 10 shells
  • M4 and M16 recoil (sighted and unsighted) increased slightl
  • Dud smoke grenades have been removed from stockpiles (fix for smoke grenades sometimes not working)

  • Fixed an issue where players would sometimes pop up upon a revive
  • Fixed issue where players in tatical movement would sometimes appear to be facing a different direction to other players

  • Players who die while defusing the bomb can no longer continue to defuse while they are down
  • Mission Editor - Users may once again copy volumes in the full editor
  • Fixed a cosmetic issue where one leg would twist unnaturally upon landing while jumping and sprinting
  • Impact effects on your character do not appear in first person; this will increase performance during firefights for most machines
  • Fixed issue where a player could be revived by a player who died in mid-revive
  • Players no longer stuck in acton cam at the start of a new match
  • Fixed an issue where empty logs would sometimes be created
  • Closed several exploits where, among other things, unscrupulous players could theoretically unsecure and/or revive themselves
  • All dialog audio loaded upon game start; this should remove many of the early game hitches players could experience

About the Game

Do you have what it takes to train like a U.S. Army Soldier?

America’s Army: Proving Grounds is the official game of the U.S. Army and part of the highly acclaimed America’s Army game series. This free military game focuses on small unit tactical maneuvers and puts you to the test in new America’s Army maps as well as AA fan favorites Hospital and Bridge.

Take on the role of an 11B Infantryman practicing combat maneuvers at JTC Griffin, a fabricated training MOUT (military operations on urban terrain) environment. This training is crucial to your success as part of a Long Range Combined Arms – Recon (LRCA-R) unit, a full spectrum capable team that embarks on special operations missions behind enemy lines.

Key Features

  • Two Game Modes
Experience fast-paced Battledrill Exercises (BDX) (6v6) that focus on small unit maneuvers. As you learn how the enemy might react, adjust your strategy for future engagements
Forward Line Operations (FLO) (12v12) test your skills in a larger environment
Hardcore mode has increased weapon damage and a reduced HUD

  • 5 Mission Types
Activate - Activate all the objectives
Extract - Extract the objective to the rally point
C4 - Plant the C4 at one of the bomb sites and defend it until it explodes
Destroy - Arm the objective and defend it until it detonates
Take and Hold - Activate all the objectives and prevent the enemy from activating objectives you control

  • You are a U.S. Army Soldier
Weapons - M4A1 Assault Rifle, M16A4 Assault Rifle, M249 Saw, M14EBR-RI, M24 Sniper Weapon System, Remington 870 MCS, and M9A1 Pistol
Grenades - M67 Fragmentation Grenade, M83 Smoke Grenade, M106 Fast Obscurant Grenade and M84 Stun Grenade
Optics - M68 Close Combat Optic, M553 Holographic Weapon Sight, M150 ACOG 4x Optic, Elcan M145, Leupold Mk4 and Ghost Ring Sight
Supported Fire allows you to rest your weapon on obstacles to reduce recoil
Bullets do instant and bleed damage, bandage yourself to stop the bleeding

  • Teamwork is Critical
Spotting enemies gives your teammates greater situational awareness
Reviving your down buddies gets them back in the fight
Securing enemies prevents them from being revived and communicating with their team
Report your location and status to your team
Suppression affects your enemy even if you don’t hit them. Use the M249 to control firing lanes and keep the enemy’s head down while your team flanks their position

  • Train in Shoot Houses
Shoot Houses give you a place to learn how to use all the weapons in a single-player environment. They are fast-paced exercises that allow you to compete for the highest score
Create your own shoot houses in the Mission Editor

Mission Editor

Create your own missions and shoot houses with the AA:PG Mission Editor
Share them on the Steam Workshop

As your skills with the Mission Editor increase, you can move to the Advanced Editor
*The Mission Editor and Advanced Editor are developer tools that require more advanced hardware than what is required to run the game. Performance may vary.

1. Very tactical
2. Beutiful game (Good graphics)
3. Simple
4. Good community
5. Very good balance of gameplay

1. Sometimes freezes for periods of 1-5 seconds when viewing scoreboard
2. Not a lot of weapons
4. Only one pistol

Americas Army is a great game, and I can't imagine that it's FREE to play. If it asked $60.00, I would buy it. It's a simple, beutiful, and very TACTICAL game. Every corner you clear gives you a rush of adrenaline. The one-life rule unless you get revived works amazing with the game mechanics, and makes for a enjoyable and thrilling game. There aren't a lot of weapons, but with what they have, they perfected them. Everything is balanced and works as it should. No quick scoping, no "How fast can you point and click" action. It's all soley based on your position and strategic skill. Everything has a purpose, whether you equip all smoke grenades to smoke your advance across a bridge where LMG's are spraying, snipers are shooting, and grenades are flying, to flashbang to stun your enemy in a CQB situation, and then rushing it and neutralizing your enemy.

You need this game in your library.

I usually don't write reviews, but this game was too good to pass up.

1.) Good graphics, not the best but good enough for a f2p.
2.) Have to use teamwork or you will most likely die and your team will lose.
3.) Excellent maps.
4.) More realistic than COD and most other fps games.
5.) 100% f2p, no hidden transactions.
6.) Smooth gameplay.
7.) Great community.

1.) I wish Punkerbuster actually cared about hackers and did something about it.
2.) Costumer service is not stellar.
3.) Hip firing (in my opinion) is too accurate.

Overall this is a other great AA game, try it out for your self. Hope you like it, and please like this review.

This game is a shooter. It's called America's Army, and you always play as the Americans. In many respects those are the only things that veterans of the AA-AA3 will find solace in. Apart from that this game seems very much a rehashed shooter. However it is well made. The sound is excellent. Once again you can hear the enemies if they are happy to run around making noise giving you cues to where they lurk. The gun shouts are loud and powerful sounding and very quick to make you jump. The visuals are excellent as well, smoke completely blinds you as it seeps around the corners giving you cover.
Why is this an AA game? Because it still calls on the player to use military foundations to win :
1) Teamwork. People must realize this is the reason for online games. Play with your team, not for yourself.
2) Communication. If you don't communicate with your team, you will fail. The community is happy to help you out when you let them know the situation.
3) Tactical superiority. Suppression fire, holding chokepoints and forcing the enemy to play your style to complete the missions.
Even though America's Army: Proving Grounds abandoned many of the previous games features it still has a solid gameplay reminiscent of the better AA titles, tactical movement as per previous titles (leaning, breathing control, revive/secure mechanics), and a highly responsive developer team showing that the AA series is still alive and kicking.

-Free to play.
-3GB download.
-Tactical Gameplay that encourages teamwork.
You need to pick up your teammates when they downed, and tie down your enemies.
-Good variety of maps. 6v6 or 12v12 quick games.
-Good built in push-to-talk voice communication (not always on).
-Very minimally buggy, very smooth beta with minimal hangups.
-Spotting function by pressing 'Q'.
-Basic variety of starting weapons that feel pretty good: Assault Rifle, SAW, Shotgun, Sniper
-Different sight attachments to choose from.
-You can have two sets of grenades at a time, 4 different types to pick from:
1 HE, 2 Stun(Flash) (Up to 4), 2 Smoke(Slow) (Up to 4), 2 Fog(Fast) (Up to 4).

-Newbs don't really pick up, tie down or spot. It might just not occur to them, but reminding them or reviving them yourself usually helps them learn.
-Only 1 kind of pistol currently.
-No female soldier models. Can't pick which male model you use either.
-Bug: Sometimes the guns hangup and don't reload/shoot. Could be lag though.
-Bug: Poor steam integration. Doesn't properly report server player count and doesn't always let you join directly through steam. You may have to ask a friend for an invite, or look up the server info and type it directly in AA's IP box to connect.
