The arkham franchise is brilliant in the fact that it manages to create its own alternate batman universe. It does this by acknowledging a few subtle changes that occur through out the dark knights career, as well as building a version of gotham with enough backstory that every inch of this game makes sense. I never felt the need to question a side quest because I couldn't understand how or why this villian I am chasing after exists in this frame of time in this place. In fact most villians motivations made sense in context of their enviroment. After having the one of the main protagonists being Hugo Strange and a series of recorded interveiws being unlocked after completion everything I had grown to question soon fell into place.

In terms of a reveiw score I rate based off of gameplay-2.5 points, Narrative 2.5 points, graphics 2.5 points, and the over all world 2.5points thats 10 points total for a perfect score or a must buy

I'd give it a 10

On PC it's not hard to see how the graphics might hold up for another 4 or 5 years before appearing lack luster, and in terms of everything else its a complete package.

One of the best game of all time, IMO. I have never spent so much time in single player game ever. The best game in the series, no doubt. Too bad rocksteady screwed up the others by either just giving them to other devs or just not caring abouty the PC community in the last attempt even when they were the ones who encouraged me to actually buy game, and not pirate them.

This is it. This is the definitive Batman experience.

This game has it all. You've got a quasi-open world space to explore. Arena combat. Amazing stealth gameplay. Puzzles. RPG-lite elements. It is a game that does a lot of everything, and doesn't spread itself too thin. In fact, it does everything amazingly. A step up from its predecor, the controls are much smoother as every area listed above has been improved on. This includes, most pivotly, combat, which has gone from an annoying slog at times to far more responsive, fast, and intuative.

The absolutely only issues I have in this game are the challenges aside from the main campaign that force the mechanics further than they can actually go, thus becoming frustrating.

The story is a solid comic book romp. Altough not perfect, it ends on a high point. But when factoring in everything else the game has to offer, the story is just an added bonus for fans of Batman.

Lets be clear, you by no means have to be a Batman fan to enjoy this game. This is a fantastic game for any fan of good games. I could lauder praises on this game all day, but instead I'll just say go play it. If you are only going to play any game in the Arkham franchise. Play this one.

It's a Batman game – what's not to like?
The strongest points are visual design and controls. Character models, even for generic ones, are very detailed and it's very satisfying to punch people around.
Didn't find the story particularly clever, although it does a decent job at keeping you on the edge of your seat. Some bosses feel out of place.
I didn't think this game is best out of the series and I feel they all are on the same level. Definately worth the money even if you are not a huge comic books fan

This game is a classic.

I purchased this game for $5 (even if it was $20, it's worth it) and for the price, I feel like I've stolen it.

So what did $5 get me?
  • A great continuation and expansion of the world that "Arkham Asylum" set up,
  • An interesting standalone story that is a great starting point for understanding the Batman/DC universe (I can actually watch suicide squad without having read any of the comics),
  • An open world that feels like it's a living, breathing gang war, filled to the brim with unique characters from the DC universe,
  • A game with graphics that have barely aged at all, the animations are smooth as silk and the voice acting is top notch.
  • Collectable trophies that are actually useful and fun to collect (they are part of a side quest),
  • Plenty of great side quests,
  • Extra game modes after you finish the main story (combat campaign, harley quinn storyline, game mode+),
  • Satisfying combat (if anyone complains about it being too easy, it's because they are playing on easy),
  • The combat controls on the PC are quite good, however using gadgets in a fight can be tricky (The only flaw in the game that I can think of). You can definitely play this game on PC without a controller on the hardest difficulty, so it's not a huge issue.

This is one of a few games that everyone should own.

Pick it up for $5 (it regularly goes on sale during the steam sales). For the price of a McDonalds meal, you'll have a great adventure in the DC universe.

The sequel to one of the best Batman games out there, Arkham City takes everything that made Arkham Asylum great, and brings it up a notch. The freeflow combat system that made Asylum so good remains here, and it feels somewhat improved with a few new special takedowns; the same goes for the predator system, in which you can really feel like Batman, taking down enemies one by one, and seeing how they become more and more terrified. There's also a lot of new gadgets, which, besides their use in combat, also help to open new ways to navigate the game world.

As for the game world: it's huge. The game is set in Arkham City, a megaprison built after the events in the Asylum that took place in the first game. The "city" has a few different districts, each controlled by a different villain from Batman's rogues gallery, with their own thugs and all. The environments are really well designed, both for exteriors (the city itself), and interiors.

The story is pretty good as well. It begins with Batman (well, Bruce Wayne, actually) getting imprisoned in Arkham City, after he was running for mayor in opposition to the prison. Once there, he finds out that the man in charge, Professor Hugo Strange, has a plan for the prison, named Protocol 10, and Batman must figure out what that plan implies. During the main story you'll also have encounters with other villains from Batman's history, like the Joker, Two-Face, the Penguin, the Riddler, and many more. There's also plenty of side missions for you to take on, each with their own style. And, as an added bonus, you also get to play as Catwoman at several points during the main story, who's in Arkham City following her own agenda, but still has some encounters with Batman.
As for music, it's very good. The soundtrack really works for the game, giving you that Batman feeling when you're beating up dozens of thugs, or the tension in a Predator room when you're spotted. The main menu music alone is amazing.

As for extra content, there's tons of it: first of all, New Game+. After beating the game, you get to play it all over again from the beginning, in a more challenging mode, as enemies will be stronger and faster; however, you get to keep all your toys! Then there's Harley Quinn's Revenge, which is a story DLC that takes place after the main events of the game, and you get to play as Robin. Finally, there's Riddler's Revenge, a challenge mode in which you can play as Batman, Catwoman, Robin and Nightwing, in several combat and predator challenges.

So, to conclude this review, I can say Batman: Arkham City is an amazing game, especially if you're a big Batman fan.

Still my favorite of the Arkham series yers later. Awesome story, non-tedious side missions, and huge replay value. The Riddler's revenge challenges could be a game all of their own. Highly reccomended.
