Everyday Shooter is an album of games exploring the expressive power of abstract shooters. Dissolute sounds of destruction are replaced with guitar riffs harmonizing over an all-guitar soundtrack, while modulating shapes celebrate the flowing beauty of geometry.

Play through different levels each with a completely unique musical, graphical, and gameplay style. Shoot to trigger musical sounds and riffs that combine to form the final soundscape of the game. Use points earned in the game to unlock extra lives, shuffle mode, and different visual filters.

Totally worth it. I've spent countless hours on this game. It may have been that I did it to become better at it than this girl I was trying to impress. It may have been that she's vastly better at shooters than I am and she told me I'd never beat her at this one. It may have been that I got so good at it that I kicked butt on her account to get her past where she was stuck. Also she married me, but that has nothing to do with this game. Or does it? This game will get you the girl. Enough said.

I keep coming back to this every once in a while. There are definitely some things that bug me about it a bit, mostly it always feeling a little unpolished, but I can't help liking the way it does what it does. A few years before it came out, I had a very similar idea and worked out some of the details but never went anywhere with it. It was really neat seeing what things he did the same way and what things were completely, totally different from anything I'd thought of. I like the creativity and variety in the different levels, both in terms of how they play and in their aesthetics. I also really appreciate that for once someone made a game with (at least somewhat) procedural music which is NOT electronic. It's all samples of guitars and stuff, which gives the whole game a totally different feel from the usual stuff like this. I just wish the actual "shooting and collecting points" part felt a little better than it does, but it's still reasonably fun.

This is a very strange game, that I personally love, but I'll admit it's not for everyone. It has some very unique artistic and musical sensibilities, and even its game design is pretty far outside the norm for shoot'em ups. The game actually gets easier the more times you replay, because you earn points to unlock things like extra starting lives. Each level follows vastly different logic and behaviors for the enemies, that keeps the game feeling fresh with each stage. And while the challenge is intense, it's not really about winning, so much as existing in a state of focused flow while immerse in such beautifully strange visuals and the hypnotic music that synchronizes perfectly with it.
