I first purchased this game around 7 years ago in 2009 and to this day I still love it. It's absolutely wonderful and I can't recomend it enough. I just wish there was a mac port!

I could not recommend Obulis enough to anyone who's a fan of the puzzle and/or strategy genre... and to say that some of these levels require intense strategy and forethought is no understatement.

Each of the game's 151 maps have unique puzzles, no two being exactly alike, and the scenery of each stage combined with the tranquil music will surely create an experience you won't soon forget. However, if you're looking to complete the game 100% on your own, you will be spending far more than the eleven hours I spent with it. The eponymous "Ultra" levels will have you tearing your hair out if you're not ready to look at them from every conceivable direction, and each of the "Inner Sanctum" stages leaves you with a feeling of unease as it subverts many of your expectations and turns every lesson you've learned up to that point onto its head. The best part is that you can use what mechanics were introduced in older levels and re-implement them in harder stages, which is almost mandatory at some points... and the ending I received when I got to Dungeon XII and finally collected the Onyx Medallion was simple yet so heart-warming in the end. (My one regret is that I didn't screenshot it for posterity, but... as simple as it was, it's worth earning and seeing for yourself. A 'credits' option once you have a completed save file would've been greatly appreciated just for the ability to revisit it at any time.)

My single complaint with this game, if I had any, is that some levels have events that cannot be replicated perfectly despite being played the same way twice. I would say this pertains most to levels like "Dark Forest III Ultra" where the pendulous swinging of one of the balls can affect the entire pace of the rest of the level—too fast or too slow, and the final ball won't reach the cannon or will simply bounce right past it. The same could be said for "Pond XIII" where single frames can decide if you dropped a large grey ball in just the precise manner to spur a chain of events that will let you finish the level or not. Precise timing is paramount... but thankfully, the stages are so short that even the longest of them won't take you more than a minute at the absolute most, even though with all of the retries you'll rack up, it'll feel more like hours before you discover the solution on your own.

For its low price, you definitely get hours of entertainment that you likely won't find elsewhere; besides the puzzles themselves, the scenery in each stage will be a feast for the eyes, and the soundtrack will absolutely entrance you.

This is hard.
Holy crap this is hard.

The game itself is a real piece of art. I barely played it, but not because it's a bad game.
You can only do one action: cut a chain.
The game consists of hundreds of levels, each set up in the same way:
A bunch of orbs are connected with chains, and a bunch of buckets are spread along the 2D map. Your job: cut the chains in such a way that gravity knocks the correct orbs into the correct buckets.
Sounds easy, but it's probably the hardest game you will play. I got to level 3 and decided that I would pack it in. Maybe it gets easier when you get the hang of it, but I need a good story or complex character development to keep me coming back.

This is one of those "casual" games that, if you manage to complete all the levels, you really deserve some sort of monetary prize.

I give this game 8/10, because it manages to do a lot with almost nothing.
I recommend it for:
- Casual players who still love a challenge.
- Gamers who are absolutely fascinated by 2D physics effects.
- Fans of simple puzzle games.

I do NOT recommend it for:
- Adventure gamers
- RPG fans

Tactical game where u need reading skills.
Cheap game to spend alot of time.
Its hard and u MUST use ur brain to complete levels :D

But isnt making that much fun.

Good physics puzzle. Had a lot of fun with it. Very good music too.

Like some puzzles, you may end up doing an alternate solution by accident or luck instead of the actual solution. That may happen in some levels but not always.

This game is pretty fun for what it is. It is probably more fulfilling on a mobile device, but if it is on sale for $1 or $2, this game is worth getting for sure.

There are plenty of Flash games out there that are free and playable online without the need of any downloads other than Flash Player. It's true, oh yes, so true, but what brings this game apart from those free Flash games?

The amount of levels, resolution, graphics and solid gameplay. This game is pretty mediocre but nonetheless fun than the Flash games, maybe even a little bit better to play without the annoying sidebars the Flash game sites usually have.

What exactly is this game though? It's a physics puzzle game with balls. And chains. And you cut the cahins to get the balls to ther own urns. That's pretty much it. The levels vary from easy puzzles like cut this chain first, then this one but they get harder and harder as you progress through the game. Some of the levels are quite challenging and will give great amounts of enjoyement when you finally figure out the solution. Really rewarding gameplay.

I really recommend this game to any players! Hardcore, casuals and of course puzzle fans themselves. Great game for a great price.

I've completed 40% of the first chapter so my review is basicly going to be my first impressions of the game

So, i decided to put one of the thousand discount thingys i have in my inventory to use and buy something interesting.
I had a -90% discount for this game which ended up costing like 50 cents or something like that. So i was like "why the heck not?"

This game doesn't offer anything unique so far, it's something i've played alot on android phones, but it still manages to be pretty addictive and challenging.

The game itself is VERY relaxing, although the challenge it gives might make you butthurt.
The music so far is fantastic, music in this game is what gives me that relaxed feeling.
Now the sound effects themselves are pretty repititive and can get annoying sometimes.

For example, when you try to complete a challenge/map or whatever, and you just keep losing and losing and it gives you that annoying "FAULT!" sound effect.

Although sound effects in games like these probably are usually the same...

The map designs are also pretty interesting, Windmill setting, Desert setting, Forest, etc.

Everything is so harmonic in this game. So peaceful.


I wouldn't pay the full price for this game, even though it's not alot. -50% or more and i'll say go for it.

It's a good game and is good in what it does.


I hope i was able to be of some help in deciding to buy or to not buy this game.

I purchased this game and finished every puzzle in about 10 hours. Most of this time was spent on the timing puzzles. While the puzzle genre is full of mediocre puzzle games, Obulis is one that is worth playing. The physics behind the game are great and some of the puzzles are truly devilish. As with any puzzler, there isn't much re-playability since once you know how to do a puzzle, well, you know how to do that puzzle.

This is a long review so if you just want a summary of why I recommend this game skip to Results and read from there.

IonFX makes a fun little puzzle game that produces a special world that combines Newtons three laws with gravity pushing your puzzle solving to the test. With sweet music and pleasant level design Obulis offers a deceivingly peaceful play through.

Gameplay:
After nine fearless hours I have completed Obulis. Obulis is an interesting game, but surely isn’t for everyone. In the category of puzzle games Obulis tests you by using a version of physics without friction to propel, roll, jump, shoot, catapult, and bounce spheres into containers. The levels vary and there are about 152 levels. The level difficulties go from Simple to Master with everything in-between. There is no difficulty setting for the campaign so in a single play-through you will play through a various difficulty settings, which pushes you through a rather smooth difficulty curve. Each section of Obulis has an ULTRA level which unlock after completing challenges throughout the “entire” campaign. These levels push you to the test and completing them unlocks achievements.

Features:
One of my favorite aspects of Obulis is that there is no rating for the puzzles. You either solve a puzzle or fail a puzzle, there is no score. I like this concept, but it essentially means there is no replay value to Obulis as there is nothing to do after you complete the game. The puzzles keep you on your toes, and the slowly getting more difficult challenges keep pushing you to new levels. As you progress through the chapters of the game the not only are the levels changing, but they introduce new concepts: cannons, catapults, ballista, trebuchet, gears, horizontal moving floors, vertical moving floors, and more. These concepts differentiate the puzzles and make each of the levels seem unique rather than repetitive.

Game Issues:
I write a lot about this, but if you love puzzles and like precise timing you will probably get past this quiet easily. My major gripe about this game is that the puzzles are really more based on precise timing rather than finding a solution. You may find the solution on your first attempt, but because you have to time each click perfectly you’ll be sitting there for hours. When I was playing Obulis there were actually times where I went online to look at guides to see if I was solving the puzzle correct only to find out I was, but my clicks were not timed exactly perfect. On some puzzles it gets to the point where it stops being a puzzle game and it becomes more like “Sports Arena” the arcade game made by Sammy USA Corporation where there are lights circling the border and to win prizes you must push a button right as the light next to the prize goes on. If you have never heard of this Arcade Machine you may be able to assume that it’s essentially impossible to win because of how difficult it is to time when to push the button. Obulis presents similar annoyances as “Sports Arena”. Essentially you are just sitting there clicking a button at slightly different times to solve a puzzle you figured out the answer too quite some time ago. One of the other annoyances was that Obulis didn’t always give the same result to the same physical interaction. Sometimes the ball would move slightly differently even though the same exact event was occurring. This “glitch” sometimes resulted in me having to restart even when all the clicks were correct. Luckily if you are worrying during gameplay about whether you solved a puzzle correct and are just timing the clicks wrong there is a way to ease the pain. Go on YouTube and all the puzzles have been solved and made into videos, this can allow you to view if you’re making the mistake or not.

Results:
The tedious timing issues and the minor glitches in the physics engine didn’t take away from Obulis; Obulis is actually a good play through. It offers about seven hours of puzzle solving (about two of the hours I played was with the game on pause while I was out doing other things). I recommend this game if you can get it in the Indie Puzzle Pack for a discount. I would not recommend paying full price for this game as it is essentially something you’d be able to find free elsewhere.

Pros:
+Over 152 different puzzles
+Fun simple puzzles with nice serene music
+Comes in the Indie Puzzle Pack with a few other games
+Puzzles of varying difficulty, not all puzzles have to be solved to complete the game (some of the hardest puzzles can be skipped)
+Very easy controls, only requires a mouse
+Puzzles vary, add new challenges, and increase in variation as you get further in the game.

Cons:
-All the achievements are for completing the Ultra Puzzles
-The game has some flaws in the physics engine
-Most of the puzzles have obvious solutions but require tedious work to correctly time to collisions

"Balls into the pots"

Do you like snooker or pool billard? Then you're right with this game. It felt to me like a endless bunch of billiard trickshots mixed with well timed cut-the-rope actions. There are ca. 150 levels which need to be solved. Each level is lovely designed with hi-res graphics, view of depth and a nice soundtrack for the different worlds. My favourite is Desert (somekind of mexican style).
First it starts easy: colored balls lay around or hang on chains, which you can cut. Then the balls are rolling, colliding and repelling. The aim is to get all balls in the same colored pots. Once a ball falls into the wrong pot, the level is failed. You have to find your strategy. In higher levels there is also essentially the timing important when you shoot a ball out of a cannon to hit another ball in the air. The game prooves to me that easy made but good software can entertain you a lot.

A few days ago, I crafted a Steam badge. In the resulting level-up, I was rewarded with a 90% off coupon for a game called Obulis. Checking the store page, I figured the game looked interesting enough, and because the coupon cut the total price down to a meager €0.50, I saw no pain in buying it, especially with all the other games I bought and have yet to even touch. It's a purchase I do not regret.

If you like puzzles, there's no reason why you shouldn't pass this game up. Even at its full price, it's fairly reasonable. Perhaps my only big gripes with this game are the occasionally obstructive foregrounds (such as in the Windmill area in Chapter 1) and the over-reliance on perfect timing rather than logic. Far too many times did I have to reset the level because I cut the chain/rope/pole a split-second too early or too late, making the marble in question completely miss its mark. This is especially bad in levels that require a lot of steps to complete. It's frustrating in that you can't solve the level despite knowing the solution.

But aside from that, everything else about the game is highly addicting and I strongly recommend that you try it if you're a fan of puzzle games. Just keep one thing in mind if you're a completionist: If you can't solve a level, DO NOT LET THE GAME SHOW YOU THE SOLUTION. Otherwise you'll forever forfeit the stars you would have obtained from clearing it. I learned this the hard way.

Obulis is a puzzle game that utilizes physics in order for you to solve the puzzles. You have multicolored balls that must reach a given pocket or hole. In order to do so you'll have to figure out the proper order and timing on when to release them from their dangling/swinging chain, or when you need to move them with the click of a mouse. I really liked this game, it was very simple to play, but at times very complex to solve. That's what I want to see out of any puzzle game, the difficulty being in the puzzle itself, not trying to figure out how to get the game to work for you. Simple graphics, forgettable music, but it all fits perfectly because of the fabulous gameplay and physics that this game offer. Highly recommended for any puzzle genre fan.
