Neverwinter: Storm King's Thunder is Live!

Greetings, adventurers!

Storm King’s Thunder calls heroes to Icewind Dale to solve a deadly mystery and recover an ancient artifact of immense power: the famed ring of winter. The ring has been seized by the fierce frost giant Jarl Storvald, who is attempting to control its powers and use it to freeze the oceans, blanketing the world with snow and ice. Orcs, goblins, barbarians, trolls, and other monsters are gathering in the north, ready to pledge fealty to Jarl Storvald should he succeed. This of course is causing havoc in the northern settlements of Ten-Towns.

There are other reasons to venture into the cold. The frozen lands of the north, once the center of the ancient Ostorian Empire, is littered with relics from that long-forgotten time. Those Ostorian relics now lie in dangerous places. They are well worth the risk of acquiring, for they are infused with Voninblod, the ancient power of the giants of old.

This exciting expansion introduces a new campaign that has heroes adventuring in three new wilderness zones, Bryn Shander, Lonelywood and Cold Run, culminating in our most challenging dungeon yet, Fangbreaker Island.

In addition to the new content we’ve listening to you and have been working hard to make changes in Neverwinter, in particular this time around with Class Reviews for the Hunter Ranger, Scourge Warlock, and Guardian Fighter. We made quite a few changes before the Class Reviews went to the Preview server, and then had lots of back and forth discussions on the preview forums, making additional changes and bug fixes with the support and assistance of our awesome preview player base!

Here's a list of some of the major features:
Three new zones: Bryn Shander, Lonelywood, and Cold Run
Ostorian relics system
New Dungeon
Class Balance updates for three classes: Hunter Ranger, Guardian Fighter, and Scourge Warlock
Runic Lockbox

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to adventuring with you in the Storm King’s Thunder! I’ll be the one wearing a big scarf!

Storm King's Thunder Coming August 16

We’re proud to announce Neverwinter: Storm King’s Thunder is coming to PC on August 16! In just under one month, adventurers will be able to investigate the sudden return of giants to the Sword Coast in our tenth expansion, which coincides with Wizards of the Coast’s new adventure.

In order to fight off these colossal invaders, adventurers must return to Icewind Dale and team up with characters from Dungeons & Dragons lore, including Catti-brie and Wulfgar, characters created by acclaimed author, R.A. Salvatore.

Storm King’s Thunder introduces three new adventure zones for high-leveled players where the story missions will take place – Bryn Shander, The Lonelywood and Cold Run. After completion of the new campaign, a new dungeon by the name of Fangbreaker Island will be available to delve into, offering a challenge unlike any other.

Our first step into the much-anticipated class balance arrives with this expansion where the Hunter Ranger, Scourge Warlock, Guardian Fighter and Great Weapon Fighter will undergo overhauls to make different paths more viable. These changes are currently on Preview if you’d like to check them out.

We have more information coming soon in our series of developer blogs leading up to August 16. Keep an eye out on our social channels and news page to stay up to date on all things Storm King’s Thunder.

Will you brave the storm?

Was a great game until the began to "combat botters" as they say. Absolutely ruined this game with that lame excuse. NOTHING BUT A CASH GRAB NOW. My wife who had never played an MMO before this is the only reason I still play. She loves playing an MMO now but doesn't want to try any, more professionally made games. Stick with what she knows... I just wanna see this company go bankrupt as I feel they are stealing my soul with each and every "daily" quest I complete.

So, I have only been playing a few hours and it has already had a critical crash twice. Both times right in the middle of a battle. First time, I logged back in and my character was dead. Second time...well that is the time I decided to never play again.

In all seriousness, the two crashes just pushed me over the edge. I hate the free-to-play ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t. They say it is free, but in reality, you have to pay to get anything good. Example...when first creating my character, I had the option to add new character races, which were pretty interesting, and I wanted to try them. Shortly after, I found out I was going to have to spend upwards of $50 (USD)...for EACH. The stuff people were saying about needing to spend $10k to get the good stuff...they likely are not exaggerating.

No matter. I prefer Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Sword Coast Legends gameplay to this. In case any developers are listening--make more games like those. I actually spend money on those games.

I played this game before it was released on steam, I got well over 150 hours or so. at the start it's really really fun, playing alone or with a friend. It's not hard to gather items and get your set around mid-tier. I loved to play as Rogue as it was greatest DPS class.
Until I got to late game...
Even with the hours I spent at it, all of the items required to be at high tier is really really too grindy. I don't mind grinding, heck I've got 6 years of Mabinogi play-experience...that's grindy too! but the grinding in Neverwinter just don't feel rewarding, that's probably the reason why I lacked motivation to play. I loved the character I made however...She has horns, a tail, and an awesome bandana covering her mouth. A sly rogue she is. but sadly, the game after a long time just feels like you're not getting much futher, unless you grind, grind, grind , OR spend a LOT of money in it.

I would recommend this game if you are looking for a fun early-game. Lategame, if you play to be super-tier, I hope you have a big wallet, or all the time and patience in the world for the grinding late game.

Simply P2W with the recent changes. If you want your character to be competitive in PvE or especially PvP, you MUST pay largeish sums of real money. The "grinding" option is just not possible, as it reqires literally thousands of hours to do what paying users do in a couple dozen.

it is sad to say that after all those days i uninstalled, its still a pay to win.i came across level 65 or 66 and befriended a girl in that open world where we both fought monsters together but sadly life was tough for me cause i was too poor in that game to buy anything yet she gave me hope :') but one day i had enough and took my hands off this game cause everyone had a shining armor and sword and there i was with nothing but a sword that dealt 25% damage to a high level i went to a smith so he can sell me his finest sword that could cut through a dragon's a.s.s but he led me straight to my steam wallet asking me for real money and alas i had i exit the game and deleted it from my library forever.i wonder how my female friend is doing cause i promised her i'd repay her for killing all those bosses for me once i become stronger in that safe me princess <3 yer' prince still thinks about you.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

"Perfect World!! ...cause our idea of a 'perfect world' is your money in our pockets!"

Ever since Cryptic got under the Perfect World umbrella, all of thier decent games have become mediocre pay-to-win fests. Cryptic still does a decent game, don't get me wrong, but the PW/Cryptic combo has no clue how to handle f2p.

Just putting my lot in with the reviews. Just read em! Decent game ruined by greed, both from within the company and outside of it (botters).

Tho, no one has touched on the community for this game. Simply put? It is TOXIC.
My experience as a returning player goes as follows:

Zone chat in the main hub and event areas... you may want to leave off. It is almost nonstop botting and trash talking. There is almost no true matchmaking for this game. High level players are matched with low level players and the high level people almost never give a crap about the lower level people. Most high levels can solo most of the dungeons in the game, but they are also in a hurry, so they speed run through... One shotting most of what they come across, taking shortcuts the new players don't know about which leaves them to fight entire groups on thier own. Ask them to slow down? They tell you (despite the fact that the game allowed you into the dungeon in the first place) that you're too weak for the dungeon and should go back and play the very first dungeon. And the dungeon rewards? performance based. If you don't get high dps #'s, you don't get much reward. And if you want much of anything in this game, you need those astral diamond rewards cause the auction house is PRICE GOUGED to hell.

Do you buy game gold? If you do, you deserve to be dragged over hot coals.

5 out of 10, purely because of how cash shop intense this game is. if i were to count community, I'd score it even lower. Play it with friends, play it for free till the grind gets too much, then wipe the character and play again.. or play another game.

Where to start? This is a fun game. A bit repetitive, but fun.

The good : controls are good and customizable, spells are interesting (or attacks), lore is good and worth a read and of course the D&D locations. Plenty to do and it's pretty fun to do. i.e. a lot of events and some dynamic events.

The bad : WORST SERVERS EVER. Seriously. You WILL get disconnected. A LOT. No matter your internet. Graphics are passable, but not a TON of variety in gear. Currency system is friggin NUTS. There are SO MANY currencies and they are hard to keep track of. Not fun trying to find out what merchant takes what. Also, doing events FOR those currencies don't always reward you everything you need to actually BUY something. I.e. you'll kill dragons and get coins for it, but to get an item you need the coins, some super rare scrolls AND an UBER rare item to go with it all and you'll have NO IDEA where they drop without google. Storage space is non-existant UNLESS you buy it with real money. This game WILL nickle and dime you. Free is a relative term. Sure you can play, but if you want to be certain races, or get some of the cooler things, you must pay. Lastly, this game is SUPER grindy. All in all, i'll play it, but i cannot in good conscience recommend it.

TL;DR enjoyable until the endgame.

Combat is actiony and a lot of fun, and this game does a good job of delivering a meaty D&D atmosphere. Levelling up a character the first time is enjoyable.

Max level grind is monumental though, plus devs/publisher are making it even more time-consuming and frustrating (check out the justifiable forum anger here) to squeeze more money out of the playerbase. PVP grounds are full of bots until about level 60, after that you will be ravaged by players that massively overgear you.

There are many hours of fun to be had for free here, so it gets a thumbs up. Hard to recommend it after reaching the level cap though.

Been trying to get this game to download now for three days. The "Patching Server" seems never to be reachacle and thier Client requires you to endlessly restart to retry the connection. So even if at some point the patching server did come online onless you were sitting in front of your pc restarting the app you'd never know.

This game is amazing overall and I highly recommend it, but if you want more details on it I will list pros and cons below:

-Great Story Line
-Very Customizable Characters
-NOT Pay-to-Win
-Good Combat Mechanics
-Not Open To Hackers

And there are probably more but I haven't explored the game all that much yet, so here are some cons:

-When you first get the game, it takes a VERY VERY VERY long time to patch, but after that you're all good to go.
-Can be repetitive
-Not all races available at beginning, but that's what DLC's for!
-You don't seem to collect a lot of weapons and armor from chests that you can use for your class

Once again, there are probably more but I haven't explored the game that much.

This game is pretty fun. It's at least more fun than world of warcraft because the story is more present. The combat is pretty fun for an MMO. Also this game will be fun for anyone who enjoys reading Wizards of the Coast fantasy novels. Its nice, a good adventure game. Dont play if you dont plan on reading the quest storylines. Reading the storylines makes this game more fun, even if it does take a little longer than just rushing through and killing enemies.
