About This Game

Defend the flame. Hold the siege.

Ashfire Keep is an action defense roguelite. Every run is a siege: you pick a class, stand in front of the keep and decide, wave after wave, whether to fight in the open or fortify the walls. If the keep falls, the run ends.

Six classes, six ways to hold the line

The Warrior holds the gate, the Mage burns the horde from a distance, the Ranger picks it apart on the roads. Win your way across the maps to unlock the Cleric, who swings a mace and anchors the front, the Barbarian, who splits enemies with a double-edged axe and burns hotter the closer he gets to death, and the Necromancer, who hurls bone and raises skeletons to fight beside him. Each class has its own upgrades, its own line of weapons and its own dodge: the Ranger rolls, the Mage teleports, the Barbarian leaps and the Necromancer falls apart into bones and pulls himself together a few steps away.

Co-op for up to 4

Defend the keep with friends: online with your Steam friends, on the same couch with controllers, or mixing both (two on one PC, two online). The keep and the Supplies are shared, every player picks their own class and their own upgrades, a fallen defender is back on their feet next wave, and the siege grows with the number of defenders.

Build, upgrade, move

Spend Supplies on barricades, stone walls, archer and magic watchtowers, braziers and totems, plus six traps: bear traps, tar, embers, springs, powder and runes. Defenses level up and change their look, and you can repair, sell or move them when the siege shifts.

Bosses that break the line

Each act ends with a boss built to test your defense, every one with its own art and its own attacks. Back off and they come for you: Kruk, Stonefist leaps right onto you, others charge across the square or send a siege stone, a sand wave or roots racing along the ground. Every heavy blow is marked on the floor first, so read it and get out.

Five maps, and the storms that come with them

Forest Village, Snowbound Outpost, Sunscar Canyon, Gloomspore Hollow and Greywall Hall, each with its own enemy families, bosses and keep. Tornadoes, electric storms, blood moons, blizzards and total darkness can hit mid-wave: more than 70 events across the maps and difficulties.

The Breach: no ceiling

Win all five maps on every difficulty to open The Breach, the endless mode: 10-wave cycles, rotating enemy families and scaling with no limit. Your best run goes to the Steam worldwide leaderboards, solo and co-op.

Grow between runs

Every run, won or lost, earns Renown. Spend it on new defenses, upgrades and passives, and forge your weapon through 10 tiers. Refine it with the materials each map drops, and climb the difficulties from Normal to Inferno.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Ashfire Keep is conceived and directed by a solo developer: its game design, mechanics, characters, story and art direction are the developer's own. AI tools were used during production under that direction, with every result selected, edited and integrated by the developer: OpenAI/ChatGPT for the logo and UI artwork; Grok (xAI) for the studio intro video; PixelLab for part of the pixel art (the classes added in 1.2, attack animations, several bosses and enemies, effects, defenses, cursors and icons); and Anthropic Claude to assist with the code, the in-game text, the translations into seven of the nine languages and the composition of the original soundtrack, rendered with public-domain instrument samples. The remaining art, music and sound are licensed works by human artists. No AI content is generated at runtime.
