This here is actually A PAIR OF MAPS. One Endless and one Campaign style. And they're gonna take a LONG TIME to load so don't go thinkin' your PC is acting up.

Speaking of Campaign Maps, looks like someone FINALLY made E1M1 from DOOM in DUSK!

And it even plays Andrew Hulshult's version of At Doom's Gate from IDKFA!

Well we're finally gonna get custom weapons and enemies working in the SDK so you can get crowbars and Pinky Demons and and whatever else you want working in DUSK!

Welcome back once again...

Today we bring an update for all the WORTHY playing DUSK in 2024.

Updates to both the DUSK SDK and DUSK HD (with more soon to come)



The DUSK SDK is getting a sizeable update today! With better Quake and Half Life map support as well as the ability to make ENDLESS LEVELS, fixing some major bugs and advanced music scripting!

New Entities

info_playlist
Creates a music playlist. Give this entity a targetname, and assign a sequence of music tracks by setting track0, track1, and so on to music file paths.

trigger_playlist
Activates a music playlist. Set the target to the targetname of an info_playlist entity, then trigger the trigger_playlist in order to begin playback. You can set shuffle to 1 to enable shuffling of the playlist, and loop to 1 to cause the playlist to loop. When a playlist is looping, you can use a
trigger_changemusic trigger to stop it.

point_template
Used for creating enemy templates that are later spawned with a trigger. Refer to the Source point_template documentation for further details. DUSK additionally supports specifying teleportfx 1 to spawn teleporter particles on each enemy spawned.

info_endless_node
This entity will trigger its target when a new wave begins, if the current wave is greater than or equal to its first_wave property. The last_wave property can be used to disable an info_endless_node starting from a specific wave.

trigger_remove_target
This entity will immediately delete any entities it is targeting when it is triggered.

You can now create Custom endless maps by setting endless to 1 in worldspawn

Enemy template entities also require an endless property set to 1 on them in order to be tracked as endless wave enemies
Fixes/Changes
  • Fixed memory leak when finishing a custom level
  • Fixed fence texture rendering for embedded BSP textures
  • Game will now default to D3D11 instead of OpenGLCore
  • Fixed load order buttons in modding menu
  • Fixed .ent files not being loaded

As for DUSK HD:

Garumin has been a busy boy! So much so we've had to stop him from adding more things to DUSK HD and save them for mods on the Steam Workshop!


Fixes/Changes
  • Various environmental tweaks and improvements
  • Extensive rework of particle systems, especially blood splat
  • Replaced bars and ladder sprites with 3D versions
  • Added grass and foliage to outdoors environments
  • Added wide new range of objects to environments fitting their themes, such as:

  • ““““Functional”””” mirrors
  • Wires, cabling and electrical equipment
  • Drains, corrugated sheets and ground debris
  • Various machines, pipes and modular flanges
  • Tools and throwable items
  • Boxes, pallets and yard junk
  • Office supplies and mundane utilities
  • Military-themed props
  • A single pleasant ceiling fan
  • Piles of spent brass, to illicit a warm and inviting atmosphere
  • Lab equipment, including papers covered in exciting nerd stuff


In the NOT SO DISTANT future we'll be adding all the DUSK HD assets to the DUSK SDK so you can use them in your mods as well as finally adding support for custom ENEMIES and WEAPONS so LOOK FORWARD TO THAT.

Five years.

It's been five long years since we launched DUSK v1.0

Even longer than that if you count Early Access and the two years of development that started in 2016.

And throughout all that time, we always promised to make DUSK as open and moddable for you as we possibly can.

But what we didn't promise you was a full remaster of the game only 5 years after its release. And that's what we've somehow done. What started as a fun way to beef up the DUSK Steam Workshop soon evolved into a full blown visual remaster thanks to the hard work of a group of very talented developers at New Blood under the supervision of David Szymanski, myself (Dave), our QA Lead Cam, Dev Support Lead Scott, and the rest of the New Blood crew. And the result? is DUSK HD


The response to DUSK HD has been bigger than we ever could have possibly imagined. So much so that we've decided to make it into its own FREE DLC that you can download and play without having to install anything else... RIGHT NOW.

What that also means is that we've spent the last few months working overtime on DUSK HD to make sure it's as legitimate and cohesive and possible. Constantly iterating, tweaking and adding new things every day. It rules. We hope you love it.
HOWEVER

While DUSK has indeed been somewhat moddable and mappable for years - Shout out to DUSKmods.com - we've always envisioned a world in which DUSK was just as moddable as DOOM and and the other classics that inspired us.


We knew that undertaking would be massive, requiring us to basically rewrite the entire game and engine from scratch (which we have) but here we are, closing in on a decade of development, with the full DUSK DDK (Dusk Development Kit) ALMOST ready for you to use.

That's right, while DUSK HD and the basic SDK and Steam Workshop are indeed AVAILABLE FOR YOU NOW. The Full Dusk Development Kit built upon the new version of DUSK is still a few weeks away.

What does that mean?

Well, DUSK HD is playable now and the Steam Workshop is fully functional!

You can:

Make and play custom maps, (even basically drag and drop Quake and Half Life maps) use texture replacements and sound replacements. Plus every file from the base game is available for you to use.

You cannot:

Have custom models (enemies), entities, weapons, and nothing from the HD pack is available for you to use yet.
Once the FULL SDK built on the new version of DUSK is available SOON™ you will be able to play all the custom maps with both Classic or HD visuals, replace weapons, models and more.

Speaking of which, we've added a new weapon to the game :)

(It shares slot 7 with the crossbow)

Oh and DUSK - Moddable will even detect any installed games with compatible assets and allow you to seamlessly load their maps. Thanks, Garry.





This massive undertaking has been the work of primarily two of our developers.

Ben "Zombie" Moir has been rewriting DUSK from the ground up for nearly 5 years and David "Garumin" Bonin has remade every single visual asset from DUSK by hand over the last two years as well as creating all new ones to add to DUSK HD.

And unbeknownst to them, all the profits from DUSK for the month of December 2023 will be split between David and Ben. Don't spend it all in one place, lads.

The entirely new enemy and weapon models were made by our 3D artist Cody Lambert and all the new animations you see were made by our animators Dom Antonazzo and Lachlan Milne.

These developers all started out as external contractors for us and because of DUSK HD they are now full time New Blood employees working across all our games. WELCOME TO THE CULT.



All that being said... if you, dear reader, are playing DUSK for the first time, fifth time, or 500th time...

We hope it helps you realize a few things.

Everything you see here is 100% FREE. 100% OPTIONAL. And the game will be 100% MODDABLE. (and we're still working on it)

For those of you old school MFs who still like to move files around instead - it will all also be available DRM FREE. (Dusk on Steam has no DRM btw)


We're still discussing how we'll release the SDK version of DUSK (which is essentially an entirely new version of the game on a reworked engine) but we're aiming to make sure that modding and managing DUSK is as free and easy as possible for years to come. Thanks for 5 years of DUSK!
