ASTRONEER - chonour

Big things are coming for ASTRONEER. Huge, in fact!

ASTRONEER: Megatech

Our second major DLC update for ASTRONEER is scheduled to be released in November of this year, and it brings big changes to the game! Unlock the ability to build massive Megastructure projects that will test your base building skills through the use of both new and existing technology. Harness the power of Megatech to take base building and automation to a whole new level!

This DLC will be completely compatible with existing saves and builds off of any progress you’ve already made in-game, so feel free to start fresh or load up your existing saves and start building!

In addition, this DLC will be released alongside a free update for all players. The free update will include new items and the ability to create a Megastructure that will allow automated interplanetary transportation (kudos to those who guessed correctly!). That means moving resources and technology between planets while you sit pretty and play with your favorite galastropod.

We’ll share more details in the future, but in the meantime you can already wishlist it!

A New Development Partner

Continuing to develop ASTRONEER in parallel to a brand-new game? Releasing a new DLC expansion while development for STARSEEKER is still ongoing? You might be asking yourself how we’re able to manage it all. We’re still a smallish scrappy team, after all. Well, this is because we’re getting some help.

Our co-development partners are called Red Kite Games, and they’re good people who are good at what they do. You might already be familiar with at least one of the many other games they’ve helped co-develop, such as Fall Guys and Two Point Hospital, but they’ve also been hugely influential in allowing us to develop Megatech and more.

We call this out for the sake of transparency and crediting their work accordingly, so please show them some love too once you get to try out some of this new content.

FAQ

What’s the release date for ASTRONEER: Megatech?

  • November 2025. We’ll narrow this down once we’re closer to release.

Will existing game save files be compatible with the Megatech DLC?

  • Yes.

Will any free content be released with the Megatech DLC?

  • Yes. A free content update will be released alongside the paid DLC. We’ll break this down in detail at a later date.

How far into the game should I progress before starting the Megatech DLC?

  • You can access the Megatech DLC as soon as you start a new game. That said, the majority of this new content will be most relevant to players who have already advanced a fair bit into the tech tree.

ASTRONEER - chonour

Gather ‘round, Astroneers! We know we’ve been a bit quiet as of late, but it’s because we’ve been hard at work on both STARSEEKER and new updates for ASTRONEER. We’re excited to share more on both games real soon, but we also have a plan to keep you better up to date on the happenings here at System Era. So, let’s start with the most exciting news!

Earlier this week we shared this teaser on our social channels. For all of you that won't be at PAX WEST, we will be doing a STARSEEKER Direct in September! More details to come, but expect to get a deep dive on STARSEEKER gameplay then! We earlier announced that we would be doing this direct on September 4th, but a certain other big game launches that day so we decided to delay it slightly. We will update you all with a date ASAP.

We have exciting details to share with you about our next big game, STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions. Join us for a packed livestream to reveal more details on gameplay and other specifics about the game we’ve been dying to share. We might even have some ASTRONEER sneak peeks to share as well.

We love sharing cool ASTRONEER merch, it was a hit in our last PAX show, but this year for the first time we’re also bringing brand-new STARSEEKER goodies!

PAX West 2025

That’s right! We’ll be heading to our favorite convention that’s also just around the corner from our headquarters, PAX West. We’ll have a real nice space-y booth to welcome fans and new friends alike, and many of our System Era folks will be there too in order to help out and get a chance to meet you. But what will we be doing there?

STARSEEKER Demos: You read that right! This will be the first opportunity where players get the chance to try out a snapshot of our brand-new game set in the Astroneer universe, STARSEEKER. We haven’t shared much on the game yet because it’s been in active development since we unveiled it earlier this year, but we think we have a snippet of the game that’s really fun and we look forward to sharing at PAX.

Merch & Swag: What’s a convention without goodies of your favorite games? We’ll be sharing free custom badges for anyone who has a go at the STARSEEKER demo, but we’ll also have some cool merch available for sale for anyone looking to proudly show their love of our games. We have a few new items you might not have seen before, so make sure to have a look. Some things to note:

  • Every purchase at the merch store will come with a free Foam Carrotling Mitt.

  • Anyone who visits our booth can get one of the many cards we’ll be giving away with redemption codes for the Safety First palette so you can match Frank’s unique fashion sense.

  • These promotions are available while supplies last.

Of course, we also look forward to just getting to meet up with our fans and answer any questions we can about both ASTRONEER and STARSEEKER. If you do get the chance to attend PAX, make sure you drop by to say hello:

  • Booth: 1613, Level 4 of the southern side of the Seattle Convention Center’s Arch Building, at 705 Pike Street.

  • Days: Friday, August 29th to Monday, September 1st.

  • Demos: Running all throughout the day while the event is open!

No, this doesn't mean we’re adding dragons (Yet???).

A New CM Enters the Chat

It’s always tricky to jump into a new community that’s been around for a few years already and try to sit on the big chair as Community Manager. The good folks at System Era have helped bring forth an endearing community of space nerds, whether it be for the love of exploration, mass production assembly lines, or just having a cozy little base in space to call your own where you can find some peace mining for resin.

I usually go by the monicker of Honourael online (pronounced like monorail), but you can also just call me Chris. I’ve been working as a CM for a variety of games for the past decade, but most importantly, I’m a fan of all things nerdy. I also love me a good strategy or 6X game like Civ, or a fun survival sandbox game like Subnautica or Grounded, so I always had ASTRONEER on my radar, but I admit I’m a bit of a novice compared to everyone.

I know I have some big shoes to fill, so I'll do my best to help Joe and SES out in making sure we maintain good communications with our community, as well as ensure it’s a fun and welcoming space for all Astroneers. In fact, I’ve been in lurker mode for some time now to try and work on some changes that will help with these goals, and this new blog series is one such addition.

SES Community Updates

One thing that’s clear to us at System Era is that we haven’t been sharing as much as we’d like. We started as a small scrappy team and have grown over the years to support ASTRONEER and its wonderful community, but the more we grow the harder it’s been to keep up on our messaging. With this new monthly blog series, our hope is to change that and keep you better informed of both the happenings at SES and our community.

It’s not every month that we’ll have big news to share, but even during slower months we’ll be aiming to share an update. This might mean giving you a sneak peek at something we’re working on, learning more about how a member of the SES team does their work, or giving a deep dive into a specific topic. These blogs will often coincide with important milestones in the month, so they might not always come out the same day, but they’ll still be monthly.

Community Roundup

As part of our push to maintain communications, we’re also bringing back the Community Roundup, but it will look and work a little differently. Instead of just gathering all of the cool community content we’ve seen since the last roundup in a single place, we’ll be featuring three members of the community.

The plan is not just to feature fanart, or even new fanart, we might do some digging for cool community content we didn't feature before, but we’ll also try to feature contributors from the community who have shared useful resources like their own crafting chart or a helpful guide. We’ll reach out for permission to feature you via Discord, and everyone who gets featured will also receive a code for a mysterious Secret Stalk Hat to wear in-game.

  • Note: Only an official SES team member will ever reach out, you can recognize them by their server tags. We’ll never ask for any personal information, only your approval to share your work via our channels and links to credit you accordingly.

So, let’s kick things off with an especially cool community creation that caught my eyes in scanning our community channels! I’m a big fan of LEGO, and ASTRONEER’s clicky-ness always makes me think of playing with a LEGO set (the Dev team will be the first to tell you that’s no coincidence).

These amazing LEGO creations are the handiwork of ITeter and they truly encapsulate (pun intended) the look and feel of EXO technology! You can find more of ITeter’s work on Instagram and even show your support by buying the build instructions here so you can make some of these at home!

Little Victories

It’s not just fan artists and contributors that will get a chance at getting featured and earning a Secret Stalk Hat, we also have this Little Victories section where we feature two players, one who shared something really cool they made in-game and another who might just be starting at the game but still shared a proud moment or milestone, like finally getting around to tidying up their base or crafting their first rare material.

If you share either a cool creation or a proud moment with a good enough quality screenshot or video (sorry, no pictures of screens), then you’ll be eligible. For the sake of fairness, there will be an element of randomness and we’ll avoid repeats, so keep sharing those screenshots and videos in our official Discord’s media channel as you normally would and keep an eye out for a DM from our team!

When faced with the question of how much research is enough research, T0astii’s answer is “Yes.”  Maybe we should be thinking bigger too. Hmm...

A common recommendation we see players give each other is to wait until you’ve completed the base game before diving into the Glitchwalkers DLC. Before taking this big leap, meen decided to immortalize the moment with this nostalgic interplanetary tour.

Sneak Leek

Lastly, every entry of the SES Community Update series should have a teaser of what we're working on like this one, or “leeks”, as we affectionately call them in our Discord. Some months might have riper leeks than others, but we’ll try to always feature at least a small peek behind the curtain.

On this occasion, signs indicate that this leek might be of interest to you.

Keep your ears to the ground because we have much more to share! Especially right after PAX. ;)

- Honourael.

ASTRONEER - staymighty

ASTRONEER - staymighty

Good day, Astroneers! We hope you enjoyed the EXO CARES event and managed to get your hands on a fancy new look in the meantime. Apologies that we haven’t gotten a 2025 Astroneer Roadmap out to you yet — planning and date-wrangling is still underway for the full year’s schedule. On the bright side, that means that today’s update should come to many of you as a total surprise…!

Stacked Platforms (Small & Medium)

Going up! The advent of Stacked Platforms ushers in a new era of verticality and compact organization for Astroneers everywhere. Stacked Platforms are comprised of a top and bottom “bunk,” allowing them to hold twice as much as standard platforms in the same amount of horizontal space. The top bunk will dynamically adjust to the height of items on the bottom bunk.

Print Filters (Small, Medium, and Large)

Astroneers have often desired some kind of sorting/filtering system for Printers. Slot any Printer into an appropriately sized Print Filter and that dream is a reality! Print Filters can be customized to only show/hide certain crafting categories. Remove entire sections from the Printers' UI with the click of a button! You can also put smaller printers on the larger filters to filter multiple printers at once!

Development Update:

While it is a little early, we wanted to update you on future content coming to Astroneer! We are working on a new content update, while taking feedback from Glitchwalkers and incorporating it into our future plans. Just a concept, so no promises, but here is a glimpse into the scale of what we are working on for a BIG update:

Can't wait to share more.

ASTRONEER - staymighty
Today in the Nintendo Switch 2 Showcase, we got to announce the big project we have been working on in the background, STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions! Check out the slick video we dropped:

YOU CAN WISHLIST IT RIGHT NOW:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1454370/STARSEEKER_Astroneer_Expeditions/

STARSEEKER will take players on a multiplayer voyage of discovery, cooperative expeditions, and camaraderie. Exploring deep space on the ESS Starseeker, players will need to work together with the entire crew of the space station to complete planet-wide objectives across a multitude of star systems using cutting edge technology. STARSEEKER is a multi-platform game that is slated to release in 2026

If you would like to follow development and get your hands on BETA access as soon as it becomes available, make sure to join our discord using this link. SIGN UP FOR BETA ACCESS

To answer the biggest question that Astroneer fans: No, STARSEEKER is not a direct sequel or Astroneer 2. STARSEEKER exists within the same universe as Astroneer, but it’s a very different game. That being said, Astroneer is still in active development! We’ll have more to announce on that later this year, but we will definitely have a Summer Update and then a larger content update in the Fall, here is a lil preview of what we are cooking up:

And I will make a commitment to you all right here: No more "this might be the last year of development!!!" statements from us anytime soon. You all have spoken and Astroneer remains as popular as ever. We are doubling down and increasing the development team size on Astroneer to focus on multiple more years of support, with some REALLY ambitious plans, so stay tuned for more details.

- excited for the future,

-jt
ASTRONEER - staymighty
Hey everyone! This update focuses on allowing players to enjoy Aeoluz however they would like, as well as some highly requested features like Dedicated Server and Custom Game support for Glitchwalkers. Read below to learn more about what we added, and please let us know what you think!

UPDATES:

CUSTOM GAME SUPPORT

Glitchwalkers DLC now supports Custom Game options. Once you complete base game requirements and jump through the portal, this will unlock the ability to start Aeoluz saves using Custom Game settings. While this supports existing settings, it also adds DLC specific toggles for turning off firewalls, turning off storms, and setting a starting Virus Protection level which will also unlock hacked catalogs, giving you a more "vanilla" experience. When in the Aeoluz menu, choose the Custom Games option to start modifying your experience, you can still unlock rewards and experience the narrative no matter what settings you choose!

  • Glitchwalkers DLC is now compatible with custom games!
  • Added options to toggle Storms on and off
  • Added options to toggle Firewalls on and off
  • Added options to set the starting Virus Protection level
  • Keeps existing Custom Game functionality like modifying the planet, biomes, etc

DEDICATED SERVER SUPPORT

Glitchwalkers DLC content is now playable on dedicated servers! Load a save or start a new session from the Aeoluz system on a hosted or home based server. NOTE: For regular multiplayer sessions, only the host needs to own the DLC. For dedicated servers that are on the Aeoluz system, all players that want to join must own the DLC.

AEOLUZ ASTROPEDIA PAGE

Added a brand new Aeoluz-specific Astropedia page that will help you locate resources within your Glitchwalkers DLC saves.

MISC

  • Added a toggle in the menu to turn off base game storms
  • On the Glitchwalkers main menu page, the text now reads “Start a new Glitchwalkers Adventure Game” and “Start a new Glitchwalkers Creative Game” to reduce confusion when you’re starting a new DLC save file
  • We’ve added some new cosmetics! Here’s a preview of the Funguy Bundle, coming to the Exo Outfitters soon!
  • Since it is our 1.0 birthday, we (finally) have added Anniversary Item Mk VI to the in-game store! Grab it in the next 30 days so you can celebrate with us.

BUGFIXES
We fixed bugs across both the base game and Glitchwalkers, including crashfixes and some multiplayer bugs reported from you all, here is a non exhaustive list:

ASTRONEER - staymighty

Hey everyone! Its been just over a month since glitchwalkers has released and got some notes here for Patch 2! This one has some gameplay adjustments, bugfixes, and additional onboarding for new players so they know what they are getting into! We are also celebrating our 8 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of our original Early Access release on steam and just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support. Astroneer is somehow getting bigger and still growing and all of this is thanks to you all who have been with us through our successes, failures, and growth as a team. <3

We made a lil video to celebrate

UPDATES:
  • Storm Power Behaviors | Storms add to the natural wind value at any location, scaling up near the eye of the storm. Solar power scales down near the eye of the storm. Power gameplay added to storms! Harvest lots of wind or get less solar power depending on your location within said storm.
  • Glitchwalkers Catalog Adjustments | All platforms will be unlocked with the first rootkit instead of the second rootkit. That means players can land and immediately start building a base!
  • Glitchwalkers Resource Adjustments | Added to Laterite in the Toxic Forest biome. We also plan to add it to other biomes underground to help players who want to live down there. This should cut down on trips up to the surface just for laterite.
  • Added a new Astropedia entry for the Glitchwalkers DLC, providing players with an overview of Aeoluz and key information to help them navigate the challenges ahead. This quick reference guide appears as a pop-up upon arrival at Aeoluz.
BUGFIXES:
  • Various crashfixes, including a specific crash on save load
WHATS NEXT:
We are working hard on our next update, mostly focused on adding additional functionality to Glitchwalkers! As mentioned in previous notes, our next update (tentatively scheduled for the first week of February) will include:
  • Dedicated Server Support
  • Custom Games Support
  • Starting fresh "vanilla" saves in Glitchwalkers with no narrative restrictions
  • Various other balance and gameplay changes and enabling of additional rewards for owners.
This will be our last update of the year, we will be going offline till the first week of January to take some needed rest during the holidays while we prepare for next year. Due to your support, this year has been an amazing success, where we saw player numbers and revenue go UP over previous years and we cannot wait to bring you more Astroneer in 2025. Start leaving your wishlist for future content in the comments ;)

ASTRONEER - staymighty
Hello everyone! This patch is focused on some bugfixes for Glitchwalkers, and to start addressing the feedback that has been coming in since launch! We've really enjoyed seeing you all jump in for the first time and have been working hard to further improve the experience. It's always helpful to hear about potential bugs, points of friction, and your overall impressions of the updates we make to Astroneer. So please, keep the feedback coming! Reach out to us on socials or leave a review to let us know what you think.

UPDATES:

Adjustments:
  • Level 1 Alpha Storm Protection has been extended to help players learn the new mechanics upon landing on Aeoluz
  • Storm fog on Aeoluz has been reduced by 25% to improve visibility within storms
  • Added missing lore in the Cyber Canyon “crossroads”

Read below about further changes and improvements we are working on for Glitchwalkers in the coming weeks!

The following bugs have been fixed as of 1.32.17.0:
  • [AS-21881] Xbox players who purchased the Glitchwalkers Deluxe Bundle would be sent to the store page upon interacting with the Glitch Portal and could not access Aeoluz.
  • [AS-21875] Crashing after interacting with the Glitch Portal but before landing on Aeoluz would lock some players out of the DLC
  • [AS-21877] Vault Scanners pointing in the incorrect direction if rotated in the backpack slot
  • [AS-21878] Audio cue on an endgame lore item would not play if quick-stowed
  • [AS-21883] Typo on the Glitch Shelter which read "the the" instead of "the”
  • [AS-21856] Check for duplicate store items was running too frequently
  • Crashfixes
What’s Next?

We will likely do one more patch before the end of the year and are working on an update to Glitchwalkers that will likely release the first week of February! That will include:
  • Dedicated Server Support
  • Custom Games Support
  • Various other balance and gameplay changes and enabling of additional rewards for owners.
We are excited for Custom Game support, as it will enable players to shortcut the new narrative loop and let you all spin up a fresh save with no hacked catalog or progression gates on Aeoluz.

Wanted to thank you all one last time for all of the support, feedback, criticism, all of it. It has been amazing to see player numbers rival our peak at 1.0 while we welcome so many new Astroneers. We always knew that some of the technical limitations for our first DLC would not be for everyone, and we learned so much in the process that we are excited to build on in the future. 2025 will be another big year for Astroneer, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it.

thanks!

THE STORY: In Astroneer: Glitchwalkers, a disgruntled member of the ESS Elysium crew (Bl!tZ) has entered her villain era and is brewing up a storm of new troubles within the ATP’s code. Players must work with the Elysium’s Head of Maintenance, Frank, to stop Bl!tZ and her nefarious plans before she dismantles the ATP from the inside.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20w0xAGtyto

Astroneer: Glitchwalkers takes players to a brand new glitched solar system that Bl!tZ has coded together for herself within the ATP. Players are tasked with traversing this new dangerous space to counter hack Bl!tZ’s digital storms and return the ATP to normal.

PURCHASE THE DLC NOW:

Feature Updates

QUICK NOTE: While we are adding a DLC with a new planet and storyline with its own progression, most of the new content (Storms, New Module, New Resources, etc.) are also coming to the base game, free to all players. There is also a mission chain with new story in the base game that leads players to the expansion. Also, players who have purchased the DLC can invite anyone to their save, regardless if they own the DLC or not. More on that in the multiplayer section!

THE GLITCHWALKERS EXPANSION

ANOTHER NOTE: There is required base game progress to get into this expansion. Once players have completed the mission “A Core Concept” in any save, a new mission called “Is This Thing On?” will become available in the Mission Log. Frank has been working hard at restoring comms and needs your help! If you have already completed "A Core Concept", the new mission should activate as soon as you load in.

This new mission chain must be completed before you can load into the new level! Once it is done and the cutscene plays, you should be in a new menu, and you can drop down to the new planet.

BEWARE, BEYOND THIS POINT CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS FOR THE DLC

A New Planet - Aeoluz (DLC Exclusive)

The Aeoluz System is currently home to one planet, Aeoluz, featuring brand new biomes, dangerous terrain, unique points of interest, and new mechanics. It is the biggest planet we have ever created and contains 8 brand new biomes for you to explore! Caves have been completely overhauled as well, including Bl!tz's planet wide Firewalls that you must take down to delve deeper.

Planet Aeoluz is unlike anything in the Sylva System, custom designed by Bl!tZ to torture and torment her fellow crewmates.

Aeoluz also contains brand new ambient music spread across the many biomes on it's surface and underground.

Glitched + Hacked Storms
(Available in the base game and the DLC)

Glitched Storms appear in the base game. These are not the storms of Astroneer’s Early Access days! Glitched Storms can be found on any planet in the base game except for the starting planet, Sylva. Glitched Storms will appear on your compass and add gameplay in the form of a new challenge to overcome and puzzles to solve. Track them down before they dissapear and resurface in a new spot on the planet!

Hacked Storms can be found on Aeoluz in the DLC. These storms are more dangerous than Glitched Storms in the Sylva System, and require more work to overcome. The new game loop includes working with Frank to gather data to build up your storm protection for multiple different storm types.

New Mission Chain and Lore

The Glitchwalkers Update contains brand new missions in both the base game and the expansion as well as lore items and narrative delivered both on planet and in brand new cutscenes.

New Modules, POI's and Items

Ruby Module – A new module that collects storm data from Hot Spots inside storms. These Hot Spots manifest as small digital twisters inside storm zones. Place RUBY on a Platform or Vehicle with adequate power near a Hot Spot to start collecting data.

The Vault Finder - A printable item that helps players track a nearby Data Vault. Place on one of your aux slots on the top of your backpack and let it guide you. Use your compass to help find the nearest one, but understand, Aeoluz is a big planet so if you aren't getting a ping, explore more!

EXO Data Vaults – Special items placed by Frank to help players. Located using a Vault Finder. Activate by completing the exposed circuits on the sides, then plunder them for Frank tech, Rootkits.

Rootkits – Obtained from an EXO Vault. Allows players to gain system access without detection.

D-Cipher Module – Uses Rootkits to apply storm protection and uses storm data generate Counterhack Keys which are essential to repairing Hacked Gateway Chambers.

Storm Data Nuggets - Gathered from RUBY, these storm specific nuggets are used to improve your storm protection at the D-Cipher. Also very valuable as research in the Research Module!!!!

Hacked Gateway Chambers Bl!tz has tapped into the Gateway Network, hacking Gateway Chambers. Gather enough Data to give to Frank so he can produce a counterhack that will allow you to repair and power up these broken gateways.

Frank's Shelter - This shelter has been modified to serve as a one stop shop for safety and counterhacking. It contains an integrated RTG and full T2 slots to increase its storage capacity. (We hope to make this a reward for completing the Glitchwalkers storyline so you can print these in the base game at a later date.)

New Progression Mechanics

When you land on Aeoluz, it becomes clear that Bl!tz is actively trying to stop you from reaching them and stopping their plan. They have reset and hacked your catalog, and only Frank can assist you in getting your valuable technology back. Players will need to use RUBY to gather Storm Data, increase their Storm Protection, and repair the Hacked Gateway Chambers that Bl!tz is using to enact their plan. Even the planet's design is specifically crafted by Bl!tz to stop players from reaching these Chambers and her Lair. Take down her firewalls so you can delve deeper into the planet.

New Characters

[NAME REDACTED], aka Bl!tZ – A skilled hacker with a mysterious past, Bl!tZ has breached the ATP, bringing chaos to the simulation with her disruptive Glitch Storms.

Frank Capiano – The ESS Elysium’s Head of Maintenance. Frank is an ally providing critical guidance and tools to counteract Bl!tZ’s effects on the system. His knowledge and support are vital to navigating the challenges ahead, surviving Aeoluz, and defeating Bl!tZ! Check out his manual attached to the starting shelter on Aeoluz.

  • Suit: HackerSuit
  • Palette: Coded Couture

Players who do not own the expansion will not receive rewards exclusive to Glitchwalkers, but they can still participate in missions, experience the story, and explore.

Dedicated server support and custom games will not be available at launch but are actively in development.

What’s new in the Base Game?

As mentioned earlier, all players have a brand-new mission line available, even if they do not purchase the DLC! A bunch of the new content (Storms, RUBY, Storm Data Nuggets, etc.) are also coming to the base game, free to all players.

Deluxe Cosmetic Pack

For those of you that want to look cool, there is an optional bundle for a set of cosmetics designed specifically for Glitchwalkers. This set can be purchased with the Expansion for a discount, or separately later.
