Undertale - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Astrid Johnson)

The thing about Undertale is, I m not sure I have many more words to say about it. Why am I electing to write more then, I hear you ask? Well, you hear me reply, it impacted me in a very profound way at a time in my life when I felt very depressed and very impressionable. Being a massive emo about Undertale is where I found my start in games journalism. It s stuck around in my mind ever since.

Ahem> – ah, fitbaw! The bootiful game. Nothing better than gathering the crew ’round for a great big kickabout in the park, right? Actually, tell you what, that sounds a bit rubbish right now. It’s all wet out, my spiked shoes are all busted up, and Mister Johnson’s not given the ball back since we kicked it into his cabbage patch.

How’s about some eFootball to pass the time, eh? I heard there’s a demo out for the new one, eFootball PES 2020.

1000 players is a lot of people. At least a small-ish town. Imagine trying to get all your neighbours to take time out of their day to hide in bushes shoot each other. If you’re one of the lucky multiplayer games that break big, it’s easy to forget just how big a thousand is. I’ve played games that would kill for even half of those in concurrent players. You don’t understand the things I’d do to get even 50 people playing Hawken again.

Mavericks: Proving Grounds dreamed of 1000 player brawls. To outdo Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds tenfold. But that dream dies this week alongside developers Automaton Games.

Destiny 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

Somewhere above the clouds over Europe, powered by spacemagic, a few ruined city blocks and a whole load of rocks are hovering as a new playground for Earth’s greediest heroes. This is the European Aerial Zone, host to a new cooperative mode in Destiny 2‘s Solstice Of Heroes event, which started last night and runs for a month. I adore the EAZ as a playground, leaping from rooftop to rooftop or barrelling through maze-like interiors while hunting bosses and treasure. It is a good place. So it’s baffling that the wider Solstice Of Heroes event offers rewards which strongly incentivise not> playing the mode.

Oxygen Not Included - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Nate Crowley)

During its two year stint in Early Access, Oxygen Not Included often came close to becoming one of my major time sink games. It s a rich simulation of the kind I adore, with an enchanting art style, a unique atmosphere, and a labyrinth of features to discover. On a gut level, I love it. But then, for every time I ve booted it up, there have been three where my cursor hovered over the icon before flinching away, as if I d discovered mould on a sandwich or the HMRC logo on an envelope.

Brilliant though it is, ONI is an ordeal. It s satisfying, but it s stressful. I d even go so far as to say – and here I risk invoking the scorn of the Legion of Geniuses, who wait in the darkness beyond the comment section – it s a little bit too hard>. But before the swollen-minded wolves take my fingers, let me snatch back the meat and explain myself.

Teamfight Tactics is now out, and my word it makes some rather hefty changes to the proceedings. Several traits and champions have seen a host of balance changes, to the point where the meta hasn’t been fully realised as of the time of writing. That said, Void, Knights, and Nobles are a lot more attractive for defensive play and Braum is now useful. If you’re just starting TFT, this is the place to learn how to play the game, thanks to our set of guides, as well as where to find cheat sheets and team comps.

The 9.15 patch has now been deployed to Teamfight Tactics and it’s proven to be a bit of a shakeup. We’re still working out how the meta has changed, but we’ve had a look around at various professional opinions and have come up with a tier list for the latest update to TFT. (more…)

Rock, Paper, Shotgun - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Matt Cox)

I’ve already played a bit of Borderlands 3, back at E3 in June. It’s a lot like Borderlands 2, only with bumslides and multiple planets. If the borders Borderlands has borne so far are yet to bore, then you will probably like this. You will probably also like Zane, a lovable Irish rogue with holographic decoys and deployable shields. Look, he’s so lovable he’s got his very own trailer.

Dota Underlords - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Ollie Toms)

Alliances are one of the key elements of Dota Underlords that sets it apart from its big brother, Dota 2, roots it firmly in the autobattler genre. Success in Dota Underlords invariably depends not only on creating a great build, but also on remaining flexible throughout the early-game and mid-game so you can change your alliances around as and when needed. We’ll go through everything you need to know in our Dota Underlords alliances guide, complete with in-depth explanations of each alliance, and an up to date Dota Underlords tier list of the best alliances to build around.

Tense Reflection - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice Liguori)

Did you know Rock Paper Shotgun have an absolutely phenomenal, world-class video department? No? Well, you do now. And this knowledge comes from me, Alice L, one of the three members of said world-class video department, so you can guarantee that praise is true and unbiased in every way. Something we put together on an infrequent basis is Reviews Roulette. It’s infrequent because it’s no easy thing being a YouTuber. There are so many apology videos, rants, and call-out vids to do, it’s hard to schedule the fun things more regularly.

Reviews Roulette is where the RPS video team take a selection of random review keys we’ve been sent, play them for ten minutes, and decide if we want to play them for longer. If they really catch our eye, they’ll get the esteemed Daddy Wallace award. For context, please refer to this episode.
