“Pour ce qui est disponible, ont retrouve un Jalopy style plus pauvre en actions mais -trop- riche en dialogue. Attendons la version finale pour espérer mieux. L'histoire semble très asiatique.”

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We have a vision for the experience we want to create. However, engaging with the community and gathering feedback is vital in making sure that players love the game as much as we already do. Road to Guangdong has driving, maintenance and repair mechanics, along with a rich interactive story. We will be listening carefully to our players’ feedback on each of these elements and how they come together to create a rewarding game experience, ensuring that Road to Guangdong exceeds the high standards our players rightly expect.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Road to Guangdong to be in Early Access for 2-3 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We want to gather feedback from our players to help us fine tune the driving experience, traffic and repair systems. However, most of our time will be spent creating locations and evolving the story, bringing Sunny and Guu Ma’s journey to a fulfilling conclusion.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access launch version represents the first chapter of Sunny and Guu Ma’s story; setting the scene for the road trip, and the beginning their journey together. Players will need to carefully maintain the aging but beloved family car, driving across the Guangdong province and undertaking family quests to unlock the first of the relative’s recipes.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Road to Guangdong’s price will increase throughout Early Access and/or at full launch. Any price increases will be communicated with the community before they happen.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will be regularly looking for suggestions and feedback on the game throughout Early Access and will be very active on the Steam forums, social media and Discord.”

UPDATE NOW LIVE - More Interactivity With Sandy, Manually Ignite the Engine etc

Hello all,

Road to Guangdong's new update is here delivering a range of key features and improvements! This is just the beginning of our planned Early Access updates, and we can't wait to update the game further!

If you're yet to jump into the rapidly improving Road to Guangdong, now's the time! The game is available at 20% off in the Steam Summer Sale until Tuesday!

Further Interactivity With Sandy

Based on your feedback, we have added more interactivity with Sandy - instead of starting the engine via a button prompt in the UI, you now ignite the engine manually by turning the key on the dashboard. Headlights no longer turn on automatically - it's down to you to manually turn on the headlights via the car dashboard.

You can now also change radio channel and volume via interacting directly with the radio. Now, you enter and exit the car by clicking on the car door when you're on the road and wish to repair the car!

And finally, sensitivity options have now been added in the menu.

UPDATE NOW LIVE | Vehicle Wear and Damage Systems Overhauled

Hello all,

We have just made live a game changing update which overhauls the way Road to Guangdong's vehicle wear and damage systems work. These changes mean that Sandy will now breakdown more often, creating a more direct connection between you, the player, and Sandy.

If you're yet to pick up Road to Guangdong, you can do so now at a great price in the Steam Summer Sale!

Major New Content and Adjustments
  • Major overhaul of the vehicle wear and damage systems
  • Added concept of "quality" to all vehicle components
  • Quality affects both wear and damage
  • Wear is based on mechanical wear & varies from component to component
  • Primary drivers are usually a combination of: engine revs, coolant temp, oil level, & part quality
  • Damage is based on a statistical model of mechanical failures when the components are under stress
  • High revs and engine temperature increases the likelihood of serious damage to components
  • Lower quality parts are more likely to take random damage, and have a higher maximum random damage
  • To balance this and account for planned future improvements in the game flow between story sections and driving sections we...
  • Increased starting money by 300
  • Save games from the previous version should get 300 added to the saved balance, but we still advise starting a fresh game
  • Each completed story will now gift a 10l can of petrol, a 3l bottle of oil, and 150 money
  • Cost of being recovered to a garage has been reduced to 75
General Advice on New Wear and Tear Systems
  • Be cautious, try to keep the engine temperature low
  • Higher quality components will generally last longer
  • Don't be afraid to use scrap parts
General Polish and Improvement
  • Adjusted gear ratios to get approx. 2500 revs at cruising speed of 40 in 3rd gear, 60 in 4th
  • Tweaked the analogue steering sensitivity curves to be less twitchy on medium bends
  • Improved clarity of colours on the health bars in the repair & garage UIs
  • Increased range of camera look in repair mode to feel less restrictive
  • Tweaked AI driving speeds to account for the constraints of the new wear & damage model
  • Other minor things here and there

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed several (unreported!) control bugs which were hangovers from prototype builds
  • Various other lesser bugfixes

About This Game

Your family’s cherished restaurant is struggling and it’s down to you to ride to the rescue. But your trusty old car, Sandy, won’t survive the road trip without your expertise behind the wheel.

Only a steady hand and a sharp eye will ensure she makes it to your destination. So slip into the driving seat and buckle up for the adventure of a lifetime, set against the beautiful backdrop of 1990s Guangdong.
A treasured part of your family for longer than you can remember, Sandy has carried your loved ones through many a crisis. But your beloved car has seen better days and she’s going to need a helping hand to respond to this latest emergency.

Only by keeping tabs on your fuel consumption, tyre wear and engine condition will you keep Sandy purring as you travel across the wide expanses of China’s most populous region in search of help.

The road ahead is long and it’s going to take more than careful driving to keep Sandy on the move. The only way you’ll ensure she has everything she needs to complete your mission is by taking regular checks under the bonnet. Keep the mechanics away by topping up oil and fuel levels and repairing and replacing worn out parts, from oil filters to fan belts.

As Sunny, a young art graduate and recent inheritor of the struggling family restaurant, you join your Aunt Guu Ma on a mission to revive the once-thriving business. Separated by generations, your relationship with your ageing aunt will be truly tested as your road trip turns into a journey of discovery.

Only by navigating those bumps in the road, and making tough choices as you encounter other relatives, will you shape Sunny’s character, establish her position in the family and discover secrets that could save the restaurant.
