What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Surge Radio has its core gameplay mechanics completed, but some of its systems are untested and need much work and tweaking done before the game can be turely considered a 'completed' product. Such elements like the UI are in very clear need of refinement.

Surge Radio aims to be a fast competitive experience, and as such requires active player involvement to develop the systems and features to a point there they can hold such an attribute.
Throughout Early Access, changes will be continuously made to map designs, gunplay, movement and other key backend systems that make the game tick.

Alot of the game's themes have yet to be worked on due to the high fidelity of the gameplay alone. Playing in early access will let you watch the fictional gameshow Surge Radio develop and adapt its theme.

Joining in during Early Access will grant you exclusive content as a thank you for contributing to the development of the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game will leave Early Access after a roughly 6 months of analysis and feedback. The more feedback and statistics collected, the quicker this milestone will be achieved.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“By the end of Early Access, gunplay will be much more enjoyable and feel fair. The introduction of competitive matchmaking at the end of early access will put these changes to the test. Major changes to gameplay will include a number of different gamemodes and maps to play on. Lastly, the themes of the game will be established and developed, with room to continue developing after Early Access.

Online compatibility will be greatly improved to get rid of current networking practices present in the game.

Additionally, progress (except for cosmetic purchases such as skins and icons) will be reset as part of the exit out of Early Access; everybody will start on a level playing field!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game has it's core gameplay mechanics implimented, but require consistent tuning to get just right, these include potentially constant changes to map designs and gunplay. There are only minimal visual thematics that would seem to hint at the ideal theme of the game.

The game can be played and enjoyed as intended; it is a fast free-for-all experience that has the groundwork laid to build more mechanics on-top of. It has a handful of maps to play on with simple AI to play against if needed. Fine tuning of lobby settings is not currently avaliable yet and will be as soon as possible.

Online gameplay is possible, but very limited, requiring any host to have an open port to work. This will not be staying and is being changed.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There is no plan yet to change the price to the game after leaving Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community will be able to contribute to the development of these systems by providing feedback and simply playing the game. Feedback will always be appreciated, and as a reward for contributing, each player who plays during Early Access will gain exclusive cosmetic content.”
