What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Labyrinth is an engaging strategy game that portrays the U.S. efforts to counter extremists’ use of terrorist tactics around the globe. The player is faced with difficult choices that balance military actions with diplomatic and humanitarian ones while on the path to eliminate the use of terror as a political weapon.

Labyrinth is a complex strategic game that will benefit from community involvement from all types of strategy game players. It has unique card-driven, asymmetrical game play that challenges the player to make complex choices that have great affect on the global perspective.

For Playdek, player feedback is immensely important to the games we make such as Labyrinth, and key areas that will benefit are the online multiplayer system as well as the complex A.I. that will improve with player involvement. There are also quite a few complex menus and interface layouts that provide various game choices to the player that can be adjusted to accommodate player feedback.

Combining our passion for making games such as Labyrinth along with your passion as players will lead to making the best experience possible.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Currently we anticipate being in Early Access for about 6-8 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“During Early Access we will be adding a complete A.I. system to compliment the solitaire bot system that will be available at Early Access for offline play, along with Hot Seat play, in-game player logs, advanced tutorials, designer strategies, sandbox mode for completed games, localizations and full multiplayer mode with leader boards.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version is fully playable with both offline and online play. Players are able to play against a solitaire AI bot for both the U.S. and Jihadist sides and can play online multiplayer games. A beginner's tutorial is implemented that helps new players with the basics of the game. The game also has a completed card gallery and rule book for reference.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price of the game will increase at full launch, as the additional features become available. Those who purchase the game during Early Access will not be charged extra at full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will provide the best and most efficient channels for players to provide their feedback throughout this process. For testing each update we will continue using our beta branches that are available to Beta players and will gather that feedback as well as general feedback from our Playdek support channel as well as community discussions on Steam.”

About This Game

From the award-winning designer and ex-CIA intelligence analyst Volko Ruhnke, Labyrinth: The War on Terror combines an emphasis on game play with a multifaceted simulation spanning recent history and the near future.

The game takes players inside the global war on terror. In 2-player campaigns, one player takes the role of Jihadists seeking to spread fundamentalist rule over the Muslim world, while the other player is the US, neutralizing terrorist cells and encouraging Muslim democratic reform. In the single player experience the player leads the US in taking on challenges to defeat al-Qaeda and its allies.

An extensive variety of card driven event combinations fuels Labyrinth’s asymmetrical design, creating deep complexity that unfolds with every turn while maintaining an ease of play that increases engagement with every decision.

Key Features

• Card Driven Mechanics – 120 event cards provide never ending combinations. The outcomes vary per round and take great effect on the flow of the conflict.

• Asynchronous Online Multiplayer – The system allows for seamless competition from head to head – if both are available – to respond when ready, and longer matches based on timer settings per game.

• Beginner’s Tutorials – Overview tutorials take you through the basics of playing the side of the US and the side of the Jihadists.
