Version 1.1.1 now live!

Hi folks!

As usual, I'm still keeping a close eye on everyone's experience with Heliophobia so far. After noticing some minor issues, I put together this update with a bunch of small fixes/improvements to clean up a bit. As opposed to the last update, this isn't a major content change, but just a bunch of things that needed a little tweaking. Read on for the full patch notes below (very minor spoiler warning).

~ Version 1.1.1 Patch Notes ~
- Slightly reduced some puzzle backup timers (some puzzles provide help if not solved for long periods of time)
- Added backup timers to two more puzzles that previously didn't have them (near the end of the game)
- Tweaked BGM at the very end
- Tweaked textures and brightness in Hotel2
- Fixed incorrect Hotel2 photo in Theater after completion
- Fixed window missing collider in Chinatown

Hope everyone is enjoying it otherwise! If you're interested, feel free to write a review. It helps us out and we get to improve the game for you. Win-win!

Version 1.1 now available!

Surprise!

After launch I've been watching countless youtube videos and twitch streams of the game. From that, I've noticed a few spots that could use improvements. The biggest being a small number of people not understanding that they can continue on after finishing the Hotel (one person played the level 4 times in a row)!

So, here's a patch with a handful of changes that will smooth out various parts of the game. Read on for the full patch notes (very minor spoiler warning).

~ Version 1.1 Patch Notes ~
- Added a check/question mark on every theater photo (showing if you've completed the level or not)
- Hotel room door in the Theater now only opens after completing the level
- Extra checkpoint in the Subway (near the end)
- Loading/gemini symbol now appears on any level transitions that fade to white
- Apartment encounter won't start until the Player actually starts searching
- Better lighting in the Theater
- Plane lighting tweaked a bit, door trigger goes off slightly sooner
- Slightly tweaked toilet colliders (makes reaching around them easier in a specific situation)
- Fixed a mis-rotated fan in Abyss2

If you notice anything else or want to share some opinions, feel free to drop a line in the forums!

About This Game

Heliophobia is a first-person horror/mystery adventure presented through a surreal, non-linear narrative. You awake on a vacant plane, given only a singular task: kill the one with the initials "J.R.".

Your memories seem to be just beyond reach. Grotesque humanoid creatures pursue you at every turn. Crime syndicates and shadowy organizations plot behind closed doors. On top of it all, your mind keeps slipping in to unexplainable waking nightmares. With only your rapidly fading senses about you, what will you discover - before it's too late?

Sneak, hide, and run from a slew of horrific monsters across a vast nocturnal metropolis. Explore a wide variety of locations while you uncover secrets and piece together fragments of a deep, interwoven story. Navigate sections of a seemingly endless city filled with claustrophobic alleyways, labyrinthine tunnels, and dreary establishments. Segments of nerve-wracking terror are broken up by exploration, puzzle-solving, and world-building sections - providing brief respite from high-anxiety encounters.

Features

  • Surreal Horror - Monsters and nefarious humans are not the only things to fear. The entire world feels just a few degrees off from "normal".
  • Non-Linear Mystery - Segments of the story branch off and unlock in non-chronological order. Any completed section can be returned to for further investigation.
  • Glitch Senses - Heavy glitch effects serve as both visual flair and a "sixth sense" for nearby dangers. Use them to your advantage, or disable the effects entirely.
  • Survive On Your Terms - Despite the claustrophobic setting, many levels feature multiple routes or varied solutions to puzzles.
  • No Cheap Jump Scares - Building atmosphere and dread are central to the overall experience. While some moments may be surprising, none are played just for an empty reaction.
  • Outside The Comfort Zone - Each challenge is presented with a new setting, format, or set of rules. No two sections should feel exactly the same, leading to a feeling of gnawing unease.
