What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Games take a long time to make. It also takes a long time to gain reputation as a developer. Releasing to early access means I can work on both at the same time.
If this game can generate revenue from sales, I can devote more time and money making this game better.
Having players and a community during development allows me to collect feedback on things I have missed or overlooked. This will make the game better.
This is a passion project. All decisions are made to make this game the best possible version of itself.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The final release for this game will be roughly in March of 2025.
It is hard to set a specific date. I keep finding new ways to make things and improve this game.
Steam won't let me say “it is done when it is done”. So, I will say that I would like to finish in roughly March of 2025.
If the game gains more popularity, I will delay the expected finish date. The reason is so that I could make this game even better.
I like working on this thing and it could be a while.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Right now, it is your basic survival game experience.
What I have envisioned for the Full release is a fun experience that takes inspiration from multiple sources. I basically want to take my favourite features from all my favourite games and make something fun.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“As a single player experience it has come a long way from the original build.
A lot of the core mechanics are finished but it also still needs a lot more to be added.
It is currently a playable demo. But still needs a lot of work and polish.
It has the basic survival mechanics out of the way. Now it needs all the extra stuff I have planned that will bring it together as a game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“This game will always remain at a low price. Affordable games are the foundation on which I am trying to build my company from.
There is likely to be some experimentation on the price during the early access. However, the aim will be to keep the cost to the player low.
It is about finding balance. I would like to generate enough income to work on this fulltime, but I also want the player to get plenty of value for their money spent.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I work closely with my community. Any person who owns this game can comment in any of the forums or on any of the social apps and request changes or new features to the game.
I also spend a lot of time in private discussions with players. This is so that I can get their thoughts in a setting where they can be more open about their opinions.
I also like to watch as many Twitch streams and YouTube videos as possible. This is so that I can watch people’s unfiltered reactions during gameplay.”

About This Game

Outback is an end of the world survival game set in Australia.
This is one of the harshest environments in the world and staying alive is already a challenge. However, it gets worse because the world is ending.
Good luck staying alive.

The features currently supported are.
• Base building.
• Crafting.
• Combat.
• Customisable user interface.
• Full gamepad controller support.
• Customisable key binds for gamepad controllers.
• Customisable key binds for mouse and keyboard.
• Language support for 15 different languages.

Players can decide their own playstyle. The traditional survival crafting experience is one option available to the player. However, the loot and shoot experience is also an available option.
Players can hunt iconic Australian animals for food. However, be careful when exploring. Australian wildlife is known for being deadly and snakes are difficult to see.
Also, players will need to fight as the wildlife isn't the only threat they will face.

Wafflesoft is an Australian based independent game studio. Yes this is a solo project. Yes this is my first project. Don't worry though this is a good thing. This is because I am able to make choices that improve this game without interference.
