What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We've been continually updating and incorporating feedback from the 2 million+ players since we released the free version of the game in October 2017, and so it made sense to continue to do that as we work on the paid version of the game. The game is already fully playable with many hours of content (you can download the demo right here), and we hope you'll join us on our journey toward the full release!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The full version of the game should be released early 2019 - depending how much content we end up adding.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The main difference between the full version and the early access version will be the Spacefaring Age, where you get to travel between planets and complete the storyline. We'll be continually updating to add new content, planets, and features to greatly expand the game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The early access version of Aground already has the science path for the first planet (all the way to building your first spaceship - including many hours of content and many islands), and the game has been tested, balanced and polished.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will rise after leaving early access depending on how much content we end up adding.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community involvement has been a major part of Aground's development since we released the first free version in October 2017 - mainly through our subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/aground) and discord (http://discord.gg/aground). The diverging science and magic paths, pets/familiar system, fishing, and more were all thanks to player suggestions. The game wouldn't be as fine tuned and polished as it is now without this feedback, and we'll continue to take suggestions both large and small to improve the game as we head towards the full release!”

Early Access Launch Day!

The early access version of Aground is now available! Join us on Discord, Reddit, Facebook or Twitter today for some launch day festivities!

It has been a wild ride getting to this point - from the initial prototype over a year ago, an underwhelming reception to the early versions, to an incredibly enthusiastic response to the browser version, an amazing crowdfunding campaign, and update after update of new content and improvements.

And - hopefully - this is just the beginning of Aground’s story!

The early access version includes new quests, vehicles, enemies and areas not in the demo version. And we still have a ton of exciting content left to add before the game is complete.

Update 1.4.0 is now Live!

This update includes lots of new content for the early access version (see above), but we also included an update to the free version too! This update includes swimming and many small improvements and tweaks to the game. As a big thank you to Armor Games, Kongregate and Newgrounds who helped us get to this point, we also added a few secrets and specials on those sites - can you find them all?

---------

I hope you enjoy the early access version and demo updates! And if you played the game, help show your support by writing a review or posting a screenshot! I hope you’re looking forward to the magic path update, which will include the magic path between the demo and outer space!

About This Game

As one of the last human survivors, you find yourself stranded on an uninhabited island. With a few other victims of the crash, can you craft, mine, and build your way to survival?

Aground was designed around the theme of Progression, and inspired by Utopian Mining, Starbound and A Dark Room. You start out with only the rudimentary ability to gather wood, and you can eventually build your way up to a thriving settlement, expand to other islands, develop advanced technology, and learn magic. Will you be able to confront the threat that caused you to crash? Fly dragons? Launch into space? The sky is literally not the limit.

With Aground, our goal is to keep you continually surprised, with exciting new options opening up around every corner, so you’re always wondering “what’s next?”. By the end of the game, even though there are a lot of systems and complexity, since everything has been built up bit-by-bit, it is all easily manageable.

Mine

The surface is just the beginning - there is a whole world to explore beneath. And you never know what you might find in the depths…

Build

Build a whole city for you and other survivors, with each structure adding new functionality and possibilities.

Craft

Use the materials you’ve gathered to create items, foods, and weapons to support you in your quests.

Quest

Accept quests of all sorts - raise (or slay) dragons, gain a trusty familiar, unlock fishing, manage your farm, learn to hunt, brew mysterious potions… the list goes on...

Survive

Balance your health, stamina, and carrying weight by using foods and items.

Advance

Upgrade and enhance your buildings - adventure to new islands (or new planets!) to learn higher technology and magic, and bring home your findings.

Discover

Progress through the story arcs and uncover the secrets of the planet, why you’ve been stranded here, and how to leave. But in the end, will you even want to escape?
