What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Although we have our long term vision and roadmap for Session, we felt that Early Access was the perfect platform for us to get the game into the players hands with a core experience as soon as possible and to get important feedback earlier on.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We don't believe in never ending Early Access cycles and plan to officially release as soon as we can all the while making sure to leverage player feedback and iterations on gameplay as much as possible, until we feel we have a solid release.

That being said, we will most likely be in Early Access somewhere between 6-12 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The final version of the game will include the complete NYC level as well as many other features that will be added progessively to the game through major and minor updates during the Early Access period.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, our Early Access build contains core features that we felt were necessary to include from the start in order to give the player a solid enough experience as well as allow us to get feedback on important aspects. However, this is only a subset of what we plan to have for the final version of the game.

Although we try our best to make sure there are no "game breaking" issues, the game is still in developement therefore it will unfortunately not be without issues. However, we plan on addressing bugs and issues and ideally get minor updates (bug fixes, small features, gameplay changes, etc.) out on a regular basis.

Creating any game, especially a skateboarding game is complex, time consuming and takes time to get it right. One example of this is our Free Grind System. Initially, we implemented our grind system using splines / grind bounding volumes. Those would tell the player they were on a grind and the general direction of the grind. That system worked, but wasn't without its problems and shortcomings. We decided to scrap splines and grind bounding volumes altogether and implemented a Free Grind System which basically means, if you can see it, can get to it, you can grind it! Needless to say, this is a much much more complex system to implement and is still a work in progress so bare with us. However, it's already in great shape and the advantages are completely worth it as it offers the players opportunities that we hadn't even seen or thought of as we were laying out our level design, not to mention many other development benefits.

THIS is freedom of expression!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will change during the course of the Early Access period. With every major update we plan on increasing the price as well as one final time for the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have currently been involving the community ever since our prototype launch on Kickstarter and plan on continuing to do this through the Steam community, our social media platforms and our discord server.”

About This Game

AUTHENTIC GAMEPLAY

With the dual stick controls, each stick represents one of your feet. You will need to learn how to control them and transfer weight, just like on a real skateboard. The physics have been developed with a focus on realism, smoothness and immersion. Just like in real life for a new skateboarder, the first hours can seem challenging, but once you have mastered the technique, you will feel the unrivalled thrill of pulling off your very first kickflip! Session: Skate Sim also includes full options customisation, so you can enjoy the perfect experience tailored to you. A full tutorial provides all the help you need to get started, and you can choose from four difficulty levels!

THE 1990S AND SKATE CULTURE

Inspired by the golden age of street skating – the 1990s – Session: Skate Sim lets you experience true skateboarding and its culture: no scoring system; just you, your spot and your imagination! There's no need for judges to tell you that your noseslide or varial heelflip are perfect for this spot. And because certain locations are iconic, the developers have added several of them to the game for you to skate in and express your creativity, including Black Hubbas (New York City), Brooklyn banks (New York City), FDR Park (Philadelphia) and many other spots.

"IF IT WASN'T CAUGHT ON VIDEO, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN"

Skating and pulling off the best lines in the best spots is one thing, but if no one is there to film it, it didn't really happen… In Session: Skate Sim, you can film with a 1990s filter or fisheye lens, and you can use the video editor to create your clips and share them. You can play with multiple options, including changing the field of view, time of day, filters, and different camera views (tripod, orbit, etc.). Session: Skate Sim also offers the chance to go from skater to filmmaker: pull off your moves then go into film mode to experience the action from the point of view of your camera operator and create the best clip.
