What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to get feedback on the first half of the game and to practice the release process so final release goes smoothly for everyone.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“3-4 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Besides more polish and extra detail in the existing 5 sectors, the full version will include 4 new sectors with new enemies, bosses, characters, and story, and a final ending sequence and boss that is nearly its own sector.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Early Access is a beta state of the first half of the game. Since the game is in two parts, Early Access has its own satisfying gameplay arc.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the full version will be priced roughly 50% more than initial Early Access price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We take feedback seriously and expect to use forums and Discord to learn what people like and don't like, what bugs people are finding, and what we totally missed. We also stream development on Twitch and release devlog videos.”

About This Game

Independent game developers have gone missing and your only lead on their whereabouts is a distress signal from a remote alien base. It’s up to you to infiltrate this hostile labyrinth and uncover the answers you need to rescue them. Explore five diverse biomes while surviving dangerous hazards and obstacles, solving clever puzzles, and taking down ruthless and relentless enemies. The lives of these indies, and the future of independent games, depends on it.

Immerse yourself in this nostalgic, colorful, and quirky handcrafted FPS as you uncover the secrets and lore of a retro world that blurs the line between game and reality. In the process, enter the storied and autobiographical psyche of an independent game developer facing their inner demons while battling the challenges of making games for the love of the medium.

Inspired by the NES cult hit The Guardian Legend and other classic titles, The Indie Game Legend 3D provides a fresh lens to what a classic 8-bit game might look like through the eyes of the player character.

Your mission, critical to the future of indie games, will become The Indie Game Legend.

  • Over 200 handcrafted rooms across 9 distinctly themed areas
  • Solve puzzles and avoid traps in a non-linear sci-fi world
  • Blast hordes of enemies and take down unrelenting bosses
  • Discover weapons, equipment, and upgrades in hidden shops
  • Rescue some of your favorite iconic indie game developers
  • Retro pixel art style in a low-poly, full 3D world
  • Unlockable secrets, surprises, easter eggs, and more!
  • Original chiptunes soundtrack by a guy named Stevie
  • Multiple endings, hidden bosses
  • Your commander is a hairless guinea pig
