“It is planned to add some major features, including dungeons and raids, spaceship combat, space stations, asteroid fields, mod support, and custom maps (community-generated content). Additionally, we'd like to add some more content for already existing features, e.g. more quests, more types of biomes and planets, and so on. What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“You can already do a lot of things in Cube Universe. Travel through the universe in your own spaceship, fight against NPCs, craft items, build a house, do quests, explore epic landscapes, etc.
For more information, please refer to the "About this game" section below. Please note that some features currently do not have a lot of content, e.g. there are only a few different quests. Crafting currently does not include weapons, armor, and matter manipulator modules, and there is only one food item, but we plan to add these very soon.
Some of the character models are either partially textured or have no textures at all, and animations are missing.
At this state of development, you can expect to play at least one hour until you have seen most of the content apart from building things like your own house or even a whole city, and exploring, which can take basically as long as you want.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We set a reasonable price to reflect the game's current value, also considering some other factors, but when there are more features/the game is released, we will raise the price. Learn more about pricing in our Devlog #8.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We love to read your feedback, be it positive or critical, since this helps us improve the game. Additionally, you are free to post any ideas in the forums and we may be able to include them in the game.
We will work on mod support soon, so you will be able to create new NPCs, crafting recipes, quests, dungeons, planets etc. We try to make creating mods and content as easy as possible - for most of the content, you won't even need to know much about programming to create it, including items, quests, NPCs, and crafting recipes.”

Devlog #8: Pricing

Hello everyone! Today I'd like to talk about some decisions we had to make concerning pricing of the game.

We had to find a way to increase sales to speed up the development because the current sales (and wishlist additions) were not high enough to meet our goal of a December 2019 release that we promised. We therefore considered some options:

First of all, we could lower the price to increase the number of sold units. However, there are a lot of other cheap games on Steam and given that I alone invested something north of $250,000 (*1) worth of work into making this game already, I simply could not give it away for less than the current price of $8.99 (with the exception of discounts of course).

So the second option was to increase the price. We requested Valve to set it to $24.99, hoping this will make the game stand out a little bit more from all the other voxel games since we use a custom-made engine with very sophisticated optimizations to support orders of magnitude more blocks visible at the same time compared to other games. To be exact, it is something between 32x and 128x as many, depending on how exactly you compare it (*2). This is one thing that you will most likely not find in any other game because there are not that many people who could do these optimizations (mainly people who write graphics engines) and of those, probably no one will invest thousands of hours to make a game like this because they got a job that likely comes with a six-figure salary.

We know that the price increase is quite high, and as much as we would love to sell it to you for less than that, our top priority is developing the game so you enjoy it for many, many hours and we hope that this step helps us achieving that goal.

We also got feedback from friends who told us that they ignore games under $10, simply because there are a lot of bad or small games in that price range. We want people to know that this is not a small game and we will not rest until all the features mentioned in the description are implemented. In fact, we want to develop this game to a point where we can raise the price to $45 or more because you will spend hundreds of hours filled with fun and excitement in the game.

  1. Based upon the number of hours it took to develop the game and a reasonable salary in Germany.
  2. 512m render distance with 250m sea level compared to Minecraft with 256m render distance and 64m sea level gives 4x the number of blocks in X- and Z-direction and about 8x the number of blocks in Y-direction, for a total of 4*4*8 = 128x the number of blocks.

Explore a nearly infinite universe, filled with planets of all kinds! Every world in this game is procedurally generated, including quests that you can do to advance your character up to level 50. Venture into deep caves to find precious materials to craft armor and weapons. Or simply spend your time exploring the epic landscapes with mountains that are as tall as actual mountains and wide oceans, find a place where you want to stay and build your house or whatever you can imagine, with blocks of only 50 cm (~1'8'') and a building height of up to 2048 meters (~1.3 miles)!

Cube Universe is currently in Early Access and we are working hard to add new content and features as fast as we can. But first, let's see what you can already see and do in the game:



Earth-like planet with oceans, forests, plains, deserts, jungles, tundras, taigas, etc.


Moon-like planet with some rare materials that cannot be found on other planets, e.g. lunar essence from lunar elementals and Mithril ore.

Luminous (in development)

Exotic planet with mushroom biomes, red deserts and dark forests.


Procedurally generated quests that are based on the local area, e.g. you have to kill raptors in the jungle to restore nature's balance or get some furs to keep someone warm in colder regions.

Combat system

Choose a weapon instead of a class - your character can use any weapon, but you shouldn't change it too often since you will get out of practice. Currently, only fire staffs are supported.


Craft a variety of things, like armor, food, building materials, etc. There are a lot of professions and you can craft the basic stuff from all of them, but can master only a few to craft advanced items like modules for your matter manipulator.


Build with smaller blocks than in other voxel games, giving your creativity more freedom. Blocks are only 0.5 meters big and you can build up to 2048 meters high, which is much higher than in most other similar games.

Now, let's talk about all the planned features that will be added as development continues. The following list is ordered by the date we plan to add the mentioned features. Additionally, we will add more content for existing features, e.g. more quests and planet types.

Dungeons and raids
MMO-like dungeons and raids that are procedurally generated. Imagine a pyramid with labyrinthine corridors that ultimately lead to bosses that will hopefully drop your desired item.

Mods and user-generated content
Support for easy modding, including a terrain editor for custom terrains with custom quests. Most of the content is already defined in XML files, so we will only have to add some logic that loads user-generated XML files and some code for interaction between different mods. Additionally, a Lua API will be added to support more advanced mods.
Mods will not only be easy to create, but also easy to install - if you connect to a modded server, you will not even have to manually install mods since this will be done automatically.

Space stations
Feeling lonely in space? No one can hear you scream? Well, then visit one of the space stations and meet with other folks! Trade your goods on the intergalactic market, buy upgrades for your spaceship and much more!

Battles in space
Fight other players and NPCs in epic battles in space. Upgrade your spaceship or buy a better one to stand a chance against those filthy space pirates - or to be fast enough to outrun them.

Asteroid fields
Looking for rare materials? Then asteroid fields are the place to go!
