Why Early Access?

“Miasma Caves has been in development for a little more than two years and is at a point were it would really benefit from a larger audiences' feedback. We have a lot more content and things to find that we want to add, but nothing that would change the experience to where it would feel too different when moving to the full release. Early access gives us the ability to see what players are excited about and where we should put our focus to create the best gameplay experience we can.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are aiming to get Miasma Caves from its current state to what we feel will be ready for a 1.0 release in Fall 2018.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full release version of Miasma Caves will will be focused on getting more polish and content included. We are planning to add;

  • More types of sections in the cave
  • More secret areas hidden within the caves
  • Study system to read book treasures for quests, power-ups, and in cave effects
  • More kinds animals in the caves
  • Ability to catch animals as pets
  • More townsfolk
  • Visual differences for upgrades in the town upgrade system

We also plan on adding Steam features, like achievements, trading cards, cloud saves as well as adding additional language support.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access state of Miasma Caves is playable that shows the features of the full release. The first two sections of the cave will be active and most of the treasures are in. Everything else in the "About This Game" section is already available.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Miasma Cave's price will not increase after leaving Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will be in the forums reading all the feedback from the community. We’ll be updating and bug fixing the game regularly based upon what we’re hearing from the players.”

Early Access Roadmap

As we approach starting our early access we thought we should list out our plans for adding features and content through release. We've broken it down into 3 phases so we can focus before moving to the next part.

Throughout each of the phases we will be adding in additional hidden areas throughout the caves, more townsfolk will be showing up, and we will add more visuals for the town updates. And with each of the new depths, more treasures will start appearing.

At Launch
On early access release the plan will be to have the first 2 depths of the caves in, which contain the sandstone and the limestone tunnels. There will be the some of the hidden areas scattered throughout these sections. Many of the treasures will be present, but some won't be appearing until the deeper sections of the cave are ready. In the town, a handful of the townsfolk will be in. The ones that run the stores are the first priority with the rest filling in as we go.

Phase 1
The first big things we will be working to get in after the early access starts is Optimization, the 3rd depth, which sometimes contain the basalt areas with ruins within, and getting studying in. Studying will give more uses for the books found within the cave. Lesath will be able to read one book each time between coming and going from the caves, and these can give Lesath things to talk about to the townsfolk, power-ups, or other surprises.

Phase 2
We will be getting more of the animals implemented. The first will be the Duskling, our raven/bat creature that loves moving and hiding treasures. Followed by the Will'o''Wisp, whose abilities are still being designed. We will also be working to get in steam features like cloud saves and achievements at this point.

Phase 3
This section we will be working to finish up the 4th and final depth of the cave which will have the most dangerous areas inside, with more of the hidden areas revealing more of the secrets of the caves. We will also be working to finish off the remaining animals (like the mole/pangolin creature) and the ability to catch each type of animal as a pet to live in town.

Future
With all of the above added in we will be comfortable with calling it a 1.0 full release. After release we will plan and see what else we can add to Miasma Caves.

About This Game


Miasma Caves is an experience focused on exploration and discovery. The story follows Lesath, a bookish dragon girl who has taken up the family business of treasure hunting to help reinvigorate her village, Radiant Ridge. As Lesath, you venture into the caves, looking for treasures while avoiding the natural environmental dangers. There are many secrets hidden in the caves and treasures that you can appraise to learn about the lore of the treasure and the world. A day of adventuring ends with you bringing back your treasures to town to sell so you can resupply, upgrade the village, and catch up with the locals before you head back to the caves to get even deeper!



Miasma Caves is a single-player treasure hunting game focused on exploration in a third-person action style through randomly generated 3D voxel cave systems. The gameplay focuses on exploring the caves where you search for treasures that hold lore and jokes, to fund your expedition and upgrade the town. The caves contain many different secrets and treasures to find. All the dangers are environmental, including cave-ins, poison gases, and time itself.
