We are working with the European Space Agency

Hi all,

We'll get straight too it: we are delighted to announce that we are working with the European Space Agency on Mars Horizon!

We made the announcement earlier today over on on our website and we are really excited to be working with such an important partner on making this game as authentic as we possibly can.

Design Director, Tomas Rawlings, said "Working with ESA is a massive bonus for the Mars Horizon universe. Having access to real launch control specialists who can explain the real life pressures and challenges they face will help make this game as authentic as we can. With the upcoming ExoMars mission in 2020 this is a fantastic time for us to be working with the agency as they put the final stages of preparation on this launch.

The involvement of the ESA is a double win for the gameplay as we’re not only getting to talk to people planning actual missions to Mars but also the people who plan the strategy of the agency itself - all of which we’re planning to use to help the gameplay. To say I’m excited by this partnership is an understatement, I’m (excuse the pun) over the Moon!"

We also thought we'd double treat you with a few more screenshots from the game...

What is happening with Mars Horizon?

Hey there everyone!

We know we've been pretty quiet of late around Mars Horizon, but we wanted to give you a quick update of where we are, what is happening and why the radio silence.

Release Date: We won’t lie to you. We don’t have one, yet.

The main reason for this is actually really good news for the game. We previously mentioned before that we’ve had support from the guys at the UK Space Agency, but we also have been busy meeting with other space agencies like RALSpace and talking with the European Space Agency (Esa).

I know this isn't the news many were hoping for, and we are sorry for that and the lack of updates, but we are sure these changes, and extra support from key space agencies, will be a big improvement on the game and well worth the wait!

But with that…

Screenshots:

What better way to make it up to you than with some new screenshots? And boy howdy are these some beauties. These are an example of mission gameplay:

1. Static Failure Gif

2. Camera Failure

3. An awesome shot of Mars

What is next?:

Well we wanted to give you an idea of what we're up to here, what the next stages are and what to expect from us.

The main thing is, get the game done. Everyday it is getting closer and closer to being ready for wider sharing.

We're also going to do a refresh of the Steam page and provide a more regular announcement update from around April time (plus always worth signing up to our email newsletter!).

Any other news?

Well only one really cool one… we've started a new Kickstarter called Mars Horizon: Blast Off! - it’s a stand alone card game that came out of some gameplay prototypes we built for Mars Horizon - you can read the full story on our website.

It launches on the 5th February and you can sign up to find out more by following us on Kickstarter or signing up to the newsletter.

We are also going to be doing a cosmic space fact session on Twitter soon, so likes and RT are responded to with awesome space facts - don’t miss out!

Finally, if you do have any questions pop them in the discussion group and we’ll answer anything you throw at us!

Speak to you soon!

- AurochMatt and the team of Mars Horizon

About This Game

In Mars Horizon the player is tasked with leading a major space agency from the dawn of the space age though to humanity's journey to Mars.

Players run a government space agency from when the first rockets launched into the atmosphere, right through to the first crewed mission to Mars.

Research new tech, expand your agency base, build rockets, send satellites into orbit, and launch a variety of missions. As the player, you’re in charge of every element of the journey into space.

  • YOUR RACE INTO SPACE: All your decision-making and strategic prowess counts. Will you be patient in crafting the most high-tech base or strive to get the first human on Mars?

  • SCIENTIFIC ACCURACY: Auroch Digital has been developing Mars Horizon in affiliation with the UK Space Agency to ensure absolute detail in space travel, engineering, and the preparation needed for a successful mission into space.

  • CREW MANAGEMENT: Management is a key aspect of Mars Horizon and you’ll need to hire the right crew to successfully build, launch, and land on Mars.

  • DIPLOMATIC ALLIANCES: Enter into diplomatic partnerships with other agencies to share the rewards of space exploration, or risk going it alone for even greater benefits.

  • BUILD & DESIGN: Construct your dream rocket from multiple vehicle parts and store its design for later missions.

  • COMPONENT EXPERIENCE: Level up your vehicle parts after repeated missions to increase its reliability, and use upgrade slots for even more improvements.

  • UNIQUE CONTRACTORS: Agencies have a number of contractors they can call on for construction of vehicles, each with their own selection of unique benefits...
