What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“This is a game created by long-term fans of the genre and we hope to be able to achieve greatness. We want your feedback and your ideas what you want to see in this game. This project is evergrowing and shall eventually be the go to game if you want to play something with bombs and blowing up friends.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game has been iterated for a long time now and we spent months bringing it to a properly playable state that hopefully gives you a good peek into which direction the final product will evolve.
We want to release Bomb Bots Arena in the following steps:
  • Stage 1: Early Access Launch - Gathering feedback for every aspect of the game, push qualitiy and core game mechanics (and fix all these pesky bugs!).
  • Stage 2: Leaderboards, Matchmaking, Player Profiles
  • Stage 3: Ensure that cross-play works awesome
  • Stage 4: Introduce first new game modes and player ideas
  • Stage 5: Prepare everything for proper launch and introduce cosmetic Premium items (that don't influence gameplay) so we can actually continue working on this project.
  • Stage 6: Launch! Partytime!
  • Stage 7+: Make this the best game you can get.
Of course this list is up for change depending on how everything works out. But we will be transparent about delays and changes so you know what's up.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

The base game will stay the same. Arena Bomb battles with friends and frenemies. We will eventually let the game grow in terms of how many player will be able to compete each other at the same time. We start out with up to 8 player modes and eventually grow to a full 100 player battle royale... we heard people seem to like these kind of games nowadays.

Of course we want to experiment with Maps, might include new abilites and Power Ups.
Additionally you will be able to play with people on other devices as well.

We gonna reward all Early Access players with exclusive cosmetic goodies so you can show your Day1-support forever.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

For a full feature list check out the "About us" section.
The game currently features 4 player online and offline, as well as 8 player online matches.

The game is finished to 70% and is already fun. Now it needs to get to 100% and be even more fun.

We are working on this game for so long that we now need some outside perspective. That's where you come in. Bring your friends and give us your feedback. (Don't be too mean please :3 )

The game is going to be free.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Bomb Bots Arena is a passion project that will not see any profits that pay our bills. We do this with contracting work while we make this game sexy in parallel. IF the game reaches enough players and you guys are into it we plan to introduce premium cosmetics that can be bought but are not necessary to play the game or influence the gameplay balance.
The basic game will stay free forever.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“As mush as possible. See this as your Wishlist-Game. We will look at all your ideas and be super transparent if we think we can do it and of course will discuss our own as well with you guys.
We can only think ahead so much. You the players are the ones to be pleased, so tell us what you want so play.

We hope you will participate in discussions we will start on our steam community page, twitter and discord.
We will have votes on which features we should prioritize, which one we should scrap and share the progress with you on a weekly basis.

This is a typical game as a service. We want to make the best Bomb Arena game for YOU. So YOU get to decide.”

Closed Beta News Feb 19

Welcome to the Arena!

For those of you who were able to snatch a closed beta key we wanted to give some insights on what we will be working on the next two weeks and what you can expect in the upcoming updates.

  • Lobby Improvements - We will implement a Timer that will automatically start a match after a certain time, so player's can't block others by not selecting loadouts. Each time a new player enters a lobby that timer will gain some bonus time so the new player has enough time to select his loadout. When all players are ready the timer will be cut short.
  • Kick nerf - As of now the Kick has become one of the go to loadout abilities in the game, since it can be used aggressiv and defensive, which should be true for all loadouts BUT it is just too damn powerful since it is a passive with no cooldown. We will introduce elements that will require you to use this loadout more wisely without changing the DNA of it too much.
Additionally there is a bug that can cause the game to glitch if a bomb that is about to explode is kicked into another explosion, which causes all other Bombs to stop working. It is a pain to reproduce but it is there and the nerf will fix this behaviour as well (hopefully).
  • Custom Controls - We want to allow you guys to map the buttons however you want on your preferred controller or keyboard so you can play how you like. This will not introduce two players on one keyboard (yet).
  • Pinata Buff - We call the effect that occurs if a player is destroyed and his items are splattered across the arena the Pinata Effect. We are going to pimp the visuals and also boost the amount of items distributed from 30% to a higher percentage to make it feel even more glorious when someone blows up and to have more explosive duels at the end.
  • Custom Match Kickoff - We can't promise when this feature will go live but we are already concepting ways that allow you to create your very own custom match with custom rules like disabling Sudden Death etc. and will protect your Lobby with a password so only your friends can join. This is the very first step to a better community experience for players and streamers alike.
  • Shield buff - We will allow you to activate the Shield when you are stunned to counter some very OP combos that can be triggered. Since the Shield still needs to be timed carefully, we hope that this buff will make the Shield more viable but not OP in return.
  • Minor changes - Of course we will tweak small things that you won't even notice and fix a lot of bugs that we were able to identify due to your support.

Additionally we want to answer some questions that we get a lot, so you understand our current priorities:
  • Will we see more map layouts and map themes like icey floors, teleporters etc?
YES! BUT (I hate using this word) this is further down the line. Our priority right now is to make the basic gameplay and current set of loadouts as flawless as possible. When the foundation is stable we will mess with it as much as we can and hopefully introduce as many fan favorite features as possible.
  • When can I use my Steam name ingame?
Hopefully very soon. This is connected to a much larger topic which has the magic word SHAZAM! uhm i mean CROSSPLAY! We want you to be able to play with all of your friends, anytime, anywhere and on any platform.
We will enable Steam names soon and will work on a system that will allow you to link for example your Nintendo ID with your Steam ID as well. This is quite some work and has a lot of pitfalls as you might recall from that one game that starts with F and ends with Ortnight if not everyone is playing along well.
But in short: Yes, you will be able to identify yourself better online.
  • Will there be a Single Player/Story Mode?
There is nothing planned like this. We want to focus on multiplayer (couch and online) first and want every pixel to taste like it is created for multiplayer.
If enough people want to see single player content though we will make time for it. The first thought that we had was a puzzle mode where you would basically train for multiplayer by using your loadouts in very specific situations. But again, this is at best very far away from realization.
  • Will the AI become smarter?
    01011001 01000101 01010011

This is already a way too long text, so whoever made it this far: Congrats! You have a great attention span.
TL;DR: We are working on it.

Thanks for your support and don't forget to join our discord channel to talk directly to the devs:

Until next time.

About This Game

Bomb Bots Arena is the ultimate multiplayer bombing experience!

Join the fierce online competition and be the last Bomb Bot standing in matches with up to 8 players.

Relive the good ol' days of local multiplayer and see the agony in your frenemies' faces when you blast them away.

Select your favorite loadout before heading into the Arena and find your favorite playstyle with the following abilites:
  • Kick bombs across the Arena and make them stop just at the right spot to trap and stun your opponents.
  • Shield yourself of any harm for a brief moment but beware: The timing has to be perfect.
  • Build crates to block the enemy's path and to find great loot.
  • Jump over Bombs and other obstacles to escape deadly traps or to pressure your opponents by getting too close too fast.
  • Trigger your Bomb when you think it makes the most sense.
  • Remote Control a pesky little Bomb and chase after your rivals.
  • Punch and dash across the arena to stun your enemies.

This game is free to play and does not feature any microtransactions that influence gameplay.
