What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I want to give all players the opportunity to influence the upcoming development of the game. Players shall take part in the decision-making process about new features and in which direction the game is to be developed. In addition, players shall express their wishes about new features (e.g. what kind of multiplayer mode they want to have, or what features they miss). Many features and improvements that were made in the first months of the Early Access campaign are based on player feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The Early Access phase will last at least six to nine months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“All existing features will be expanded. There will be more planets to explore. You will be able to play more ship classes and races. In addition, new rooms, weapons, and pieces of equipment will give you further options to customize your ships. New space and planetary quests will make your games more diversified.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is still in development, and many features will be added or improved soon. Here is a list of features that are currently available:
  • Over 50 space events with multiple outcomes
  • 12 different playable spaceship classes
  • 27 different rooms to customize your ship
  • 12 different weapon systems
  • 4 different playable races
  • Use shield drones and combat drones for tactical advantages
  • Mining lasers and mining drones can be used to mine asteroids
  • Over a dozen different planet types to explore
  • Over a hundred handcrafted dungeons to raid
  • Co-op multiplayer mode
  • Multiple story lines
  • Skill and inventory system for your crew
  • Full support for Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud and more

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No, the price won't change.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“All players of the Early Access version can vote for new features in the game on a regular basis. In addition, all players have the possibility to submit their ideas, bug reports, and wishes to further improve the game by either starting a discussion in Steam’s Community Hub or by sending me an e-mail.”

Short Dev Update

Dear players,

I took a few days off as I announced in the last update text. I am back and work on the next update of Galactic Crew featuring a level editor to create your own planetary missions! Many features are already working and I think I will release it in the first week of December after an intense testing phase. Below is a screenshot of the current state. Please keep in mind, that it is an early stage of development!

I just published a minor update of Galactic Crew featuring an improved error message service. A small minority of players encountered troubles when starting Galactic Crew. With today's update, a message box will appear showing error messages during start-up with a link to an external site with information how to solve the problem. These message boxes only appear if a known problem occured. So, if you are one of the 99% who did not have any stability issues, todays update won't change anything for you.

In case you encounter any bug, please send me an e-mail with your log file to Anyone who had a problem in the past will know I react as soon as possible.

Kind regards, Benjamin

Update 37 - 1st Anniversary!

It's the first anniversary of Galactic Crew! When I planned the Early Access campaign a year ago, I wanted to make it six to nine months. However, as time passed, I kept adding more and more content that was requested by players. This update features and improved tutorial and more ground combat features that where requested by many players.

Tutorial System
The very first version of the game featured a tutorial video that was replaced by an interactive audio tutorial soon. However, this system had a few issues. For example, it was hard to insert new elements into the tutorial, because every change required new audio tracks from all voice actors. In addition, the tutorial was not available in all languages. I replaced the audio tutorial with a text-based system.

Like the last tutorial system, it explains the game's basics step by step. However, it is available in all ten supported languages and easier to maintain. The text-based system has also the great advantage that players can play the tutorial as fast or as slow as they want.

It is now also possible to abort the tutorial in most situation. This was not possible before. Although I added more features to the tutorial and more topics are covered than before, it is still only interesting for new players or players that return to the game after a long break.

Ground combat
I made several improvements to the ground combat system. First of all, the range of all firearms has been dramatically increased! So far, attacking an enemy with rifles looked like charging into melee. This was due to limitations from the very early game.

When sending multiple crew members to attack an enemy, they most likely all stand on the same spot, which looked weird. With this update, they will try to form a proper fireline resulting in way better formations.

This update also features special abilities for firearms! A weapon can have the features:
  • 'Bleeding' increases damage of all attacks against the target
  • 'Snare' reduces the walking speed of the target by 50%
  • 'Armor piercing' attacks ignore damage reduction of large monsters and soldiers with body armor

Whenever you loot a firearm from any source (weapon crate, defeated raider, ..) there is a 10% chance for each special ability to be applied to the weapon. A weapon can have all three special abilities, if you are very lucky. Status effects are also shown over the health bar of an enemy.

In order to improve the game's depth, new sound effects were added for all beasts including dinosaurs, wolves and bears.

For some missions you have to examine certain objects to advance. New objects were added to these missions that can be discovered that improve the overall atmosphere.

Bug fixes
  • The tool-tips were too small for some achievements.
  • If you had two story line missions that involved flying to a space station, you couldn't complete both at the same time.
  • Removed mistake in German translation.
  • The tool-tip of the Heimdall-class ship showed the wrong number of pieces of equipment.

Coming up next
I will take ten days off in October (my first vacation this year). The next update is planned for late November / early December featuring a level editor so that you can create your very own planetary missions and share them with anyone! I will most likely integrate support for Steam Workshop so that you can easily share your creations!

About This Game

Galactic Crew is a roguelike sci-fi game that takes place in a galaxy far away. You start the game as a captain of a small spaceship, with only a few crew members and limited resources. During your journey through outer space, you will meet merchants, miners, scientists and notorious pirates. You will need to trade goods and resources to upgrade your ship and to get better equipment for you and your crew. Equip your ship with a teleporter to explore different types of planets and underground dungeons. Talk with scientists about their work, trade with merchants, rescue crashed pilots, fight raiders and vicious beasts or gather resources to craft new items.

Explore a galaxy

When starting a new game, an entire galaxy is procedurally generated for you to explore. Mine asteroid fields to gather resources, trade with merchants, get missions from space stations, upgrade your ship at shipyards, explore new galaxies with jump gates, explore planets with your crew or raid underground dungeons.

While travelling through the galaxy, you will meet random encounters and some of them want to harm you. Make sure your ship is well-armed and your crew is well-equipped!

Ship customization

All 12 playable spaceships have their own layout. Retrofit your spaceship at any space station or shipyard by replacing rooms, equipping drones and improving your weapon turrets. More than 25 different rooms are available to customize your ship. You can have everything from simple rooms like engines, generators and crew quarters to tactical rooms like teleporters, shield generators and drone boosters. Use rooms like item processors or botanical gardens to even produce your own goods and items!

Mining drones can be used to improve the mining yield of your ship, while combat drones and shield drones give you a great advantage in space combat. Various weapon turrets in different sizes and special abilities are available to arm your spaceship.

Game customization

When starting a new game, you can customize your game by selecting a spaceship, an avatar, a profession and bonus cards. Depending on your selection these bonus cards can improve your ship’s strength, add more objects to the galaxy, alter game mechanics or add story lines! You can add multiple story lines to create your own custom campaign!

Only a small fraction of these cards are available when starting the game for the very first time. You can unlock all of them by getting achievements. Play the game and you will unlock more content!

Explore planets and dungeons

There are over 100 different handcrafted dungeons to raid and over a dozen planets wait for your exploration. These explorations range from meeting scientists at archaeological sites, scrapyards and weapon smuggler outposts to medieval villages, mining outposts and crash sites guarded by large monsters.
