為何採用搶先體驗模式?

“While developing and testing MuX, we found people using it in ways we hadn't expected. They also made music and sound that surprised us, things we couldn't have made ourselves. As we continue to develop and expand MuX, we find Early Access an opportunity to become informed and inspired by what others might create. MuX is an instrument, ready to be played, explored, and enjoyed by others than just us.”

“There are several areas that we wish to develop further including procedural
composition, physics driven composition, and VR interfaces. The final version will also have improvements to the UX and there will be a "story mode" introduction. We aim to increase MuX's flexibility, power, and ability to share / interchange with other DAW's and third-party interfaces.
Throughout 2018, we will announce and release updates with new features and components.”

目前的搶先體驗版本發展情況如何?

“The current, modular component system (over 100 components to build with) allows you to shape sound using techniques such as additive, subtractive, & FM synthesis, as well as frequency & amplitude modulation. Spawn oscillators, choose their wave-type and frequency, then choose the components you want their signals to flow through. Use unique VR instruments, like our Theramux or Laser Keyboard to control or perform those sounds. In addition, MuX's 'event' components let you program specific things to happen at specific times, allowing you to make complex automated and procedural compositions. You can also create Rube Goldberg machine-like constructions using our marble kit. Each marble carries a unique numerical value (for MIDI or otherwise) and can trigger sounds or call other actions depending on how you set those values. You can use marble paths, marble cannons, marble funnels, etc., to trigger sounds around the MuX universe. You can also just build crazy machines with our octopus component. Save and load your creations. Export audio through your line-out, sound card, or capture devices. Over 2018, we aim to expand the exporting capability.

The current build is about empowering players with as many components and possibilities and deep level access as possible (we haven't dumbed down anything). For this reason, we haven't spent too much time developing in-game tutorials. Knowing a bit about programming and sound synthesis, or being willing to unravel it from the ground-up (equally exciting, as well as possible in the current build) is kind of a pre-requisite. If that doesn’t deter you, you can re-discover a world of sound, composition, audio physics, and programming through MuX.”

“Our current plan is to gradually raise the price as we add new content and features.”

“We want to see how people are playing MuX and take that into account while developing.   We will give regular updates on what we are working on, and sneak peaks into the development for those who might be interested.  We'd also like to support concerts given with MuX. We've created a forum where MuXers can ask each other questions, share knowledge, as well as scenes, be they music, soundscapes, constructions, or self-made instruments.  We want to build a community exploring new ways to compose, engineer, and perform music.”

MuX Beta Patch 180522

New Features
  • Components
    • lerps (utor, uton, rtou, rton, ntor, ntou)
      Linearly interpolates between unit (0 to 1), range (X to Y) and normal (-1 to 1).
    • uknob & nknob

    • pass_in & pass_out
  • Wiki
    • Added a series of 'wiki' scenes. to enter the wiki, type:
      loadx wiki
      or use press the i button in the Hub.

Changes / Improvements
  • Updated interaction system
    • Fixed a issue where pressing a button really fast will cause it to not register a press.
  • L_IZA
    • Various fixes and improvements
    • New command:
      print "text"
      makes L_IZA write some text to the console.
    • The txt command now accepts argument:
      txt src:"source.txt"
      - where source.txt is the path to a text file relative to your save folder.
    • You can now paste text into L_IZA's console. simply copy some text to your clipboard, and press ctrl+v while in MuX.
    • You can now save your scene using the ctrl+s keyboard shortcut.
  • Palette / Keyboard
    • Added the up, down, left and right buttons, for navigating in the console. (Also works on your physical keyboard).
      Up and down cycles between previous and next in your command history.
  • Components
    • Many of the components now light up when firing an event.
    • Various visual changes.
    • Theremux
      Visual updates, and now also outputs the angle of your trigger.
  • New Hub
    • The hub has been redesigned with a lot more example scenes, featuring two scenes by community member Zymf
  • Lift
    • The playspace has been rotated 90 degrees, to better match the player's room-scale setup.
    • The floor has been raised slightly, to better match the player's room-scale setup.

Known issues
  • Some of the spawning positons are incorrect
  • Sometimes L_IZA and the Palette goes out of range of the Play Area
  • Slides and wiki pages incomplete.

Developer's comments
Dear MuX-icians:

With this new update, along with a bunch of new components, we have reworked the Interaction system, resulting in a much improved button-pressing experience. Instead of having to carefully touch a button, you can now press, poke, whack and slam to your heart's content!

We also added a major improvement to the visual feedback. Event components now light up when firing, making it easier to follow what is going on.

We have also added the first version of our in-game Wiki. In the Wiki, you can read articles about all of the components, as well as various important concepts, such as connections, signals and commands. Some Wiki pages also feature examples, to help you understand the various concepts and components in MuX. To enter the wiki, either find the i button in the Hub, or type loadx wiki into L_IZA.

Please note that MuX is a work in progress, and everything is subject to change.
