What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“With a game of the scope of My Time at Portia, we need to ensure we get all the different mechanics balanced correctly, creating an amazing new experience for players. That’s why it’s so important for us to get player feedback whilst on this journey of Early Access, helping us create something truly special.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We anticipate that the game will go through approximately 9 months of Early Access. This will allow us time to incorporate feedback from the player base and evolve our vision.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of the game will feature all the updates and features amassed throughout Early Access. By the time we launch out of Early Access all sandbox elements will be fully implemented, with all story and endgame content added.
To be added:
• New Areas
• New Commissions and Side Quests
• New Story Content
• More Mini-games
• Keep, Raise and Ride Animals”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“My Time at Portia is in a polished state where you can instantly play up to 25 hours of content, with lots to craft, a huge amount of story, commissions to fulfill, and areas to explore. Plus, lots of your fellow Portians have been added for you to meet, greet and even romance. The game is jam-packed full on content for you to lose yourself in sandbox simulation, but we will keep adding more!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We are planning on increasing the price when we leave Early Access. Those that join us early will have a lower cost to pay, and the ability to craft what the game becomes!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Together with Team17, our publisher, we’ll be in the forums reading all the feedback from the My Time at Portia community. We’ll be updating the game regularly with new features, balances and tweaks based upon what we’re hearing from you.”

New content on the way: Casual life in Portia

We’ve been working hard on optimising the game and creating new stories and missions for the next update to My Time At Portia, and today we’d like to share some more new features we’re going to be adding in too!

Fishing Competition
We wanted to add more mini-games that lots of NPCs can get involved in, so we’ve designed a fishing competition. This competition will take place once a year, just like other holidays in My Time At Portia - for now, this will be a Saturday or Sunday in Spring.

Before the competition, Mayor Gale will give a speech and announce the rules of the fishing competition. The rules are very simple. There are eight fishing spots in Portia, and players can participate at any of these spots. The competition will last for four in-game hours and you can participate multiples times! Scores will vary between different types of fish, and the total scores will be calculated at the end of the competition. The top three participants will get a reward – the fisherman badge, and players can exchange this for outfits and decorations at the badge exchange inside the Commerce Guild.

Be warned: some NPCs are excellent at fishing, so competition will be tough!

Horse Racing Competition
In addition to the fishing competition, we’re also adding in a horse racing competition! This will be an annual event, taking place on a Saturday or Sunday in Autumn. Players will need to finish the race within a time limit, and the fastest time wins!

There will be obstacles and surprises in this race. For example, wooden boxes on the race course can stall your racing speed. If you hit any of these boxes, the boxes will smash and be cleared out of the way, but you’ll need to get your speed back up from zero again! You’ll also be able to pick up chilli peppers which will add to your endurance time, and you’ll encounter blue balloons that will have a random positive or negative effect on your race time too! We’ll be adding more effects to the blue balloon in a future update.

For now, the horse racing competition is a single player race, but we’ll let more NPCs get involved in a future update (and some of them might be really good at horse racing!)

Just like the fishing competition, you’ll get badges for winning, and you’ll be able to exchange them for some exclusive outfits.

We’re planning to release this content update later this month, and you can stay up to date with the latest news on our social channels:

Update on the way: A new location, a new pet, new story and more!

Throughout Early Access, our aim has been to release new content regularly and our development team are working hard on the next update. We are aiming to release new content by the end of this month – and we will let you know a date ASAP!

Here’s a quick look at what’s coming to My Time At Portia very soon…

Starlight Island
In the next update, we’ll continue the story and introduce you to a brand new location – Starlight Island! We don’t want to give too much away about this new location, as you’ll be able to discover it for yourself, but here’s a sneak peek at some concept art for Starlight Island.

A new pet
We know that lots of players want to be able to keep another pet, so in this update we’ll be adding an adorable dog! Just like other characters, the dog will have its own unique storyline and missions. If you complete them all, you’ll be able to keep the dog as a pet!

We’re also adding in some new items that your dog can play with!

Riding Llamas
In the last update, we added the ability to catch, tame and ride the Colourful Llamas. You could also ride the Cotton Llamas, but we hadn’t finished this feature completely. So, in this update, you’ll be able to tame the Cotton Llamas too! Whilst they might be more challenging to tame, these particular llamas have maximum attributes.

A new holiday
We’ll also be adding a new holiday to My Time At Portia. We don’t want to spoil anything, so we’ll let you experience this one for yourselves!

And in case you missed it - we’ve been working on optimising the game to run more smoothly too. You can read our previous news post for more information on this.

That’s all for now!
