What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Chickens Madness mostly built by a full-time teacher during weekends & spare time since early 2013, and while the core of the game and the main mechanic already in place, with huge amount of content, it is a good time to put the game out, and keep increasing it's size day by day with more content, parties, and "stuff". Now I'm in the way to quit the school job in order to focus only in the indie life by releasing Chickens Madness and the in progress project "B".”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Chickens Madness been in development (relaxed development) for ~4 years, and the most important parts and vital systems of the game is already in there. And while the current build of the game is made of approximately 20 different full polished parties, the final game core planned to be 50 main & core parties. If there are other parties, will be released in form of FREE DLCs. Which means the current state of the game is a matter of adding content that recycles between all the current systems while the fun in each new party kept in increase. I would say 1 to 1.5 years of early access to get not only a MASSIVE amount of parties that makes it the richest party game out there, but also to make it supported with few free DLCs.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Chickens Madness is a party game, which means the variations of the parties, game mechanics, and player controllers could be infinite. And that was the goal from day 1, to make Chickens Madness as the most funny, immersive, and massive party game in terms of differentiation and unique content amount.

There are few things though that I can't promise with, but I would like to give a try and experience them at some point if possible. Things like:
  • Single player mode (An idea keeps coming to my head a lot!)
  • VR parties(already there are some design docs made for it a while ago).
  • Mac and Linux support (The engine support them already).
  • Networking the experience.
  • Modes & Party Editing kit.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“If I learned something in my past years of indie game development, it is "As long as the systems are there, then it is almost done, and anything else is a matter of time".

And this is pretty much the case with the Chickens Madness. All the important, main, complex systems are done and functional in a rate of 95% those systems not limited to but including:
  • The player controller (one big controller match a lot of game play types)
  • The multi-playing system (launching the match and do all the calculations based on the present players)
  • Party templates system (it is basically what makes making new party could be a matter of few working days at some cases)
  • Environment systems (what makes the level design smooth process for a 1 person team like me)
  • Tutorials system (a unique and dynamic system to add tutorials for the new parties super quickly)
  • FX pipeline to allow for fast creation for new and unique stylized FX types.
  • And a lot more other stuff.....Can't keep on counting!

Which means it is the time now to expand those big systems to gigantic ones, add more functionality to match new party types. Or even add new systems to serve new goals. Who know, which road your ideas will take me to.

What is considered as a system but not yet there, are quite a few extra stuff, such as:
  • Avatar customization.
  • Leaderboards & Achievements.
  • Menus system (including options and graphics settings)

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Game price will always remain the same during the early access time, regardless the content size. There will be some DLCs, which will be free of charge for anyone owned the game during the early access phase (still checking this possibility with Valve team).
The only time the game price will be changed to a higher price is once it leave the early access. Also may be during a seasonal sale, like the summer or Xmas sales for example. Which clearly means a sale, so the price will be lower, not higher. But in general I'm not hoping to do any sales or bundles during the early access time, so I keep the value and exclusivity to the people who care.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Well, for Chickens Madness, things are little different, even when it comes to the community involvement during the development phase. So to make things clear, it's better to show the possible community play roles in an organized way:
  • Players have to show their ideas, who knows what idea could make it to the game.
  • A good idea not only will make it to the game, but also it's mind (AKA creator) name will make it into the game.
  • People who does a 4 players streams during the early access will get a free key, they can share with who ever they want. It's not that easy to stream a couch game!
  • Loyal players, who really show interest in the game with their play time, they will get their identity some where in the game world. It may be a map name, an asset, item, costume,...etc.
  • Players who are artists (3d, 2d, or audio artists,..etc) are welcomed to send their fan made items and pieces, and it will make it to the game in a way or another. If not in the game, it will be either in the website, marking bundle, articles,...etc, and will defiantly be credited to it's creators.
  • You are not great artist, you only can draw some crappy art? do it please, upload to the game Community Hub, and It might be part of the game itself and within the game itself!
  • You can always help localizing the game to your language, and get your name in the game too.
  • If you can't do any of the above, it's enough to play the game and report any bugs, it's a very positive way to get involved in the game development. The bugs you report will let your name show in the next release as a contributor in the release.
  • You are my QA team, that I'll be proud of.
At the end of the day, the main driving force to build this game was the passion and fun. And if the game going to be early access, and people will be involved in giving their opinions, then all of those opinions have to be appreciated somehow. I'm not the best designer in the world, and i won't make it the best party game ever, but I'm sure your help, your thoughts, and your ideas is what will make it unforgettable party game!”

Update #11 -- Build[1.7a-AReturningChicken]

Yes Yes, its a major update! This update contains new content, features, fixes and whatnot! Make sure to enjoy it, and report any bugs. Comments, requests and feedback are welcomed as always!

Parties
  • Stage of Decay
Aaaand YUP!!!! a new party is here. Stage of Decay is another new party that is as well based on a new idea that was not presented yet in any of the previous Chickens Madness parties. The level is decaying, and obstacles are there, the decay is fast, and you can get a super-chicken-kick from your opponents, what could be more stressful!

Fixes
There are several fixes been made within the series of 1.6a, and while this update was mainly targeting a new feature or parties, still within this new update there are some fixes, in order to make sure the experience getting more solid. The major annoying issues that been fixed within this build are:
  • Rework most of the graphics options within the options screen. Now the game will be sure to not only correctly apply those settings, but every single option will be synced to your account in order to save your preferred setup.
  • Fix the UI issue with all the sliders in the game, previously hovering a slider will show a square image, this been fixed, and the behavior of the sliders is consistent across the entire game UI

Features
There are two main features been added to this build, as listed below:
  • VSync
VSync is very important for PC players, it have always been one of my targeted settings changes I personally apply in any game before playing it. So decided to take the time and put it within our game option screen.

  • Preview Parties
When you try (yet) to choose a party from the selection screen to play it, you get into that long list of text, if you are not familir with the party names, you might get hard time in recoginizing the party you wanna play. And while the game already have the tutorial screen runs before each party, and contain a previw of the current party, decided to make a use of those nice fast-forwarded previews and display them at the main menu while picking a party to play!
