What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access grants us an immensely useful tool that we would not have access to! Early Access allows us to work with the community while we continue to make progress on Stone Rage, your feedback will help guide us. Stone Rage has been a labor of love for the development team and by including all of our fans, we can really focus on what matters to our community and make Stone Rage the game we all want it to be.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our goal is to have Stone Rage out of Early Access in 12 months or less. However, we plan on continuing to support Stone Rage long after with continued bug fixes and content additions.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Throughout Early Access we will be adding new content that will change the way you play. We have our foundation established and we will continue to build onto it. Aside from new content, there will loads of bug fixes, performance improvements, small design tweaks, stat changes and much more under the hood features that will overall improve your experience with Stone Rage.

  • Just SOME of the planned content is as follows:
  • Climbing system
  • Playable birds and sharks
  • Amphibious travel (boats, rafts, etc.)
  • Skill system for animals
  • Changing seasons
  • Full weather system

While we have a good grasp on the direction we want to go and the features we want to add, we are always listening to our fans. Our primary goal is to make Stone Rage fun, we want you to enjoy playing our game. We want to hear what you would like to see in Stone Rage.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Stone Rage is entirely playable and stable. While we don't yet have every feature included that we have planned, Stone Rage is still a large game with a multitude of gameplay features. Not all of those features are 100% complete but we will continue to polish and adjust throughout Early Access.

You will, however, be much more likely to encounter any potential bugs while we continue to add, fix and just generally change things around. As we continue development we will be constantly fixing any issues our team or yourself discover which should lead to a cleaner and more enjoyable experience.

- Playable Female/Male character
- Playable Animals upon building a totem
- Survival System
- Time-Of-Day System
- Construction System
- Tribe System
- Crafting System
- Inventory System
- Combat System
- Blood and Gore”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan on increasing the price of Stone Rage over time as we continue to update and add more value. We will be engaging with the community to determine a fair price point for everyone.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Transparency is a primary concern for us. We want the community to know what we are working on, when we plan on making it available, and how it will affect Stone Rage. Our developers and community manager will attempt to maintain constant contact with our fans through multiple channels including the official Stone Rage forums. It is through these channels and your feedback that we will be able to determine the most pressing issues and most requested features.”

2019: The Year of Stone Rage

Hope everyone has Stone Rage on their list of games to play this year because unless all of our computers and servers simultaneous combust, 2019 is the year we make it playable for everyone. But! Before we hit that point, we will hit another period of closed testing and this session is coming soon. I have been told to order a bunch of Steam keys and get ready to hand out to our community for testing. We are waiting for some final fixing, tinkering, and bug squashing before we start to invite some more people into our largely admired and envied “Testing” channel. Okay, the name isn't very catchy but that doesn't matter, we're handing out keys to play Stone Rage with all of the developers and existing testers!

Let's bring things back down just a bit. This isn't the ready for release, top of the charts version of Stone Rage... at least not yet. This is by all definition of the phrase, an Alpha test. A lot has changed in the last month, two months and even longer. The holidays for us mean family, food and gifts, much like all of you. It also means no work which actually means everyone just works more on Stone Rage. We've hit a great stride in our development and we want to keep it up! We need more help from our community to find any bugs we haven't caught, to help us stress our servers and see if we can push that performance to aching lows. Once in, you'll be in for the duration of development before we launch onto Early Access so you will have constant access to the servers and any updates we push.

On a closing note, I'd like to update everyone a bit on the development side of things, a lot of minor changes have occurred lately as well as some bug fixes that aren't quite worth mentioning here but it all leads to a greater overall experience. Aside from all the minor stuff;

  • We've had some UI changes that give a cleaner look.
  • We've begun updates on our construction system and are adding in some new structures that are shaping up quite nicely.
  • A lot of the ranged weaponry has been implemented back in and are working great, of course we will continue to tweak it.
  • Our designer has continued work on the new map and our early revisions are already looking quite good. I can't wait to show everybody more as we continue into the year.
  • Implemented some quality of life crafting changes which means the crafting system should be pretty close to finished.

I may be missing some things but this was the bulk of changes from December. This isn't meant to function as a full change log but I wanted everyone to have a good idea of how things have been progressing.

Happy 2019 from all of us at Mountainwheel Games!

We're Back!

Hello everyone!

I know, I know... we disappeared for quite a while there. Never fear! Stone Rage is more alive than ever.

This is going to be a quick update but I promise that we will do a better job at keeping up with the community on Steam as well as releasing updates more consistently. The team has been very busy as of late. Our last update touched on our process of rewriting the games code to fix all underlying issues and better set the game up to be more modular and, therefore, making it easier for us to add on to and change. I am pleased to announce that this has been going very well. A few of our testers have helped us to make sure that the base systems are working as planned and we can now move on to the next step.

The last week or two has been spent working on getting the games weapons and combat working as intended and this will continue for an unknown period of time until everything works the way we expect it to. Once our programmer and the team is satisfied with the results, we will again roll out the update to allow our testers to hop in and help us find any issues. We are dedicated to creating a smooth and stable game that works as intended. These small tests with our community is our version of a larger teams quality assurance team. It is all of you that helps us to ensure Stone Rage will release in the best possible state it can.

I apologize for the seemingly lack of progress and updates from our end but I can assure you that we are making good progress and are right on track with our expected release. I want to point out again that we are entirely unfunded and while that doesn't excuse everything we do (or don't do), it can hopefully at least help to explain why it can be so difficult for the team. We all do our best to support our families and ourselves while making Stone Rage and the community the very best we can. In the future, we will continue to seek out means of funding to help alleviate these issues and allow us to place our full attention on Stone Rage.

As always, I urge everyone to join the official Stone Rage Discord. We are almost always active there and you more likely hear of any updates first as well as get any questions you may have answered. However, as I said, we will attempt to do a better job at communicating here on Steam as well.

About This Game

Stone Rage is a prehistoric openworld survival game set within the Pleistocene era. Players will find friends and create enemies as they struggle for survival through a prehistoric landscape filled with dangerous animals, scarce resources, and a harsh climate. Scavenge for materials to craft strong or cunning weapons, perfect for securing your next meal or to raid your enemies with. Travel north into the mountains to collect rare obsidian and create a spear powerful enough to take down a mighty mammoth. However, be sure to create warm enough clothes and homes to survive the cold winters, else you'll be forced to migrate back south before you freeze. Choose to play as a human, neanderthal, or even as an animal as you explore the world of Stone Rage to forge your own path to survival.

With the cold encroaching upon the lands in the west, valleys once plethoric with game and forage-flora have begun to see harsh and unwelcome changes. Leaves and grasses die of frost, and with their destruction comes the starved demise of fauna, and with them follows the dwindling of the native tribes. Anger, food, stone and fire are all they had left to cling to, and with their weapons, tools and bitter desperation, they set towards the rising sun in search of warmer lands. Such was the story for many thousands of tribes, and in their wandering migration there begun countless battles over people, shelter, food and territory. Large groups split to smaller clans over feuds amongst themselves, spreading far and wide to a warm and hostile terra incognita. Animals new to their eyes plague the nightmares of them and their children, and the scowling natives give them no peaceful welcome. Tribesmen often felt obliged to challenge the chieftain, either from an envy of position, lust for power, trepidation over leadership decision, or a mere whim of angry perfidy.
