What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access provides us with a platform where we can develop a game heavily driven by the suggestions and feedback of players. We want to evolve the survival genre, and with your help this will be possible.

We have set some main objectives for Early Access:
  • Frequent Content Updates & Bug Fixes

We plan to carry out constant updates to the game, this includes new content, bug fixes and more.
  • Community Driven

We strive to have a community driven game. Based off community feedback we want the players to have control over the game.
  • Cheaters

We want our players to have the confidence that they are playing in a cheat-free environment. While cheating in games is inevitable we will work around the clock to put measures in place to prevent, catch and prosecute cheaters. We will be building an in-house solution as well as using a third-party solution to combat cheaters. We will also have game moderators constantly monitoring & processing player reports around the clock.
  • Performance

We recognise that performance is a major factor in fast-paced multiplayer games. We will strive to optimise XERA: Survival so that a larger audience can play.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to be in Early Access for roughly 12-24 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Players can look forward to an expanded collection of customisations, in-game items as well as new maps and game modes.

Through continuous collaboration with our community, you can expect a more refined and polished product after Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of XERA: Survival will be stable and contain many features that will definitely keep players entertained until the full release. Players can explore the world, surviving and fighting against other players and the humanoids. Early Access will contain many early features which will be evolved based on the community's feedback. For a full list of Early Access features view the "About" section below.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan on raising the price as we ship more content and polish the game's core mechanics.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Since day one, the community has been involved in the development & design of XERA: Survival. We believe that player feedback is one of the most important roles in early access. We want to shape XERA: Survival around players thoughts and opinions to create the ultimate PvP survival experience.

We encourage our players to join the conversation on our forums, discord and other platforms to discuss future content & contribute to the game's roadmap.”

October Newsletter

Hello Survivors,

It's time for another community update as we have been busy getting ready for some exciting news and wanted to give everyone an update on some of our upcoming plans!

Over the past month, there have been a lot of things happening behind the scenes, including the map expansion, new points of interest, and some other exciting things that have been in the works.

We have made a ton of progress, and as we near the next phase of testing and development, we are happy to share some of those plans with you.

Spotted Kiwi Interactive – New Team Member

A very warm welcome to Tim who has joined the Spotted Kiwi Interactive team. Tim has filled a very important spot on the team and will assist with getting us through to early access and beyond.

A few words from Tim:

“Hi everyone, I’m Tim (@infamy8481 on Discord, Infamy in the Forums) and I’m excited to join the Spotted Kiwi team to help out with biz dev and marketing. I’m also investing enough in the company to make sure we get to Early Access in good shape. I’ve been working in video games since 1989… Yes, that old. Formerly of Activision, but don’t hold that against me 😉 Looking forward to getting this bird off the runway early next year!”

State of Development

Development is going well, we are getting a lot of new features ready to be implemented into the game. We are working with various artists and animators to implement different movement modes, such as prone. We are also working on creating more dynamic elements in the game, such as opening trunks of cars to search for supplies and more. We are also working on implementing new guns, the FN Scar will be ready in the next patch. There are still some tweaks needing to be done to the animations for the shotguns, so these may not be ready for the upcoming patch. There will be a new way to travel between safe settlements which we hope to improve based off player feedback – this will be in the next patch.

Map Extension

The map extension is going well, we are working through the implementation of new points of interest and making changes to existing ones to keep the map fresh. The map extension came out much larger than we originally thought – so it is taking a little longer to fill with foliage and other environment details. We plan to release the new map areas in stages, rather than just having empty space. We have been working on some new building types, such as a church and post office – to help break up some of the repetitive building designs we have in the game already.

Invitational Open Alpha Phase

We are pleased to announce that we will be taking the game into an “Open Alpha” phase very soon. This will open the game up to a whole new audience – and you’ll be able to invite your friends to come play alongside you. This will assist with growing the community leading up to early access and push the servers a little harder to help prep for Early Access. More details will be announced shortly.

As always, we invite and appreciate all feedback from you the community. We also want to thank everyone for your support as this project would not be possible without the support from all of the backers and we hope you will enjoy what is to come.

About This Game

It was the year 2020, Artificial Intelligence was becoming more and more popular around the world. Due to the potential threat of AI becoming self-aware, the governments of the world had to work together to prevent the possible extinction of the human race, in doing so, they created the XERA Corporation.

A new law was soon taken up by all governments of the world. This law strictly prevents any further research and development of artificial intelligence. There was a loophole, which would allow the XERA Corporation to legally seize all research and prototypes created, and continue the research and development at its own facility.

In 2022, the first artificial intelligent humanoid went online. Soon after, it showed signs of consciousness and emotion. Then one night, it disappeared from the facility. The humanoid found an abandoned factory, which is where it created hundreds of replications of itself.

The military soon took over the XERA facility, and sent out a remote update to the humanoids. Something went wrong, the updates were corrupted. They started to turn against the whole of humanity and the world fell into war. Everything is chaos, it's kill, or be killed.

This is a story of a future, no one saw coming.

XERA: Survival has been built from the ground up with multiplayer support. You have the ability to play with your friends, or play against others from all around the world - the choice is yours.

XERA is heavily focused on PVP, but there is still the environment to worry about. Be careful of AI and watch your thirst and hunger meters.

Scavenge the world to find weapons, food, drinks and medical supplies to stay alive & protect yourself.

The global inventory is where you can store your items safely. This is done inside of a "Safe Settlement". Store your items, then venture out on raids with your selected load-out.

Character inventories are stored on a master server, which crosses over every region and every official server. You can logout of an American server, and have all your items on a European server. This enables players to group up with friends and meet players from all over the world.

The map is an open-world environment, explore, scavenge, and stay on your feet to survive. Find a location to make yours, and guard it with your life. As night time comes, you should use it as an opportunity to scavenge as other players will find it hard to spot you.

The day and night cycle in XERA: Survival adds a whole new dynamic to game play. As day moves into night, the AI become more of a threat, different variations come out in darkness - with improved resistance and speeds.

A weather system has been implemented which adds dynamic elements to combat & survival situations. Your play style will need to change depending on the weather conditions.

Adventure through the world scavenging for resources to survive. Find weapons, food, drinks and medical supplies to stay alive & protect yourself. The world's loot system keeps items constantly spawning around the map, so roaming is your best option to finding more loot.

We want the community to be heavily involved in shaping the future of XERA: Survival. While we have a lot of base ideas & thoughts we will always be open minded about new ideas that the community bring forward. As our community grows we want each and everyone's voices to be heard. Through various platforms we will ensure there is always a place for you to voice your opinions, whether it be positive or constructive, we want to hear it all.
