Meet the main characters

Hi guys, scriptwelder here, the main dev behind the game. We're working hard to bring you Don't Escape - currently fixing bugs and proofreading scripts. Everything seems to be looking great and we only ask you for a bit more patience!
Meanwhile let's introduce our main cast!
Don’t Escape: 4 Days in a Wasteland is a game about the end of the world, remoteness and desolation. And while you start the game as a lone traveler walking across the desert, at some point you will meet a couple of characters that can join you and help you… if you persuade them to, that is.
So let’s take a closer look at the main characters of our story - without giving too many spoilers away!

This is you, the protagonist of the game. Lone traveler trying to survive in the hostile world. While it is not clear who were you before the apocalypse, you might be certain of who you are now - a survivor, a guy who knows how to deal with the wastelands… and also, apparently, a prophet. A what? Well, you are not really sure why, but you start having those dreams - dreams of incoming danger, of a impending threat. And they keep coming true… which leaves you with a huge advantage - knowing what is going to happen you can prepare for it and survive to see another day. The question remains: how many days are there to be seen before all is over?

She is a pilot and as such she can fly all sorts of aircrafts, which would be a super useful skill to have if there was anything that can lift off still around. She is tough, independent and resourceful. Not afraid of using a gun if needed… frankly speaking she is keen on using it even if it’s not really necessary.
She knows about a certain classified place that she hopes to locate with your help, but she is not really eager to share her secrets with anyone that easily.

He used to be a car mechanic. Barry is your local guy, so he knows his way around the area, even though it has changed a lot since the world has ended.
He has experienced a personal tragedy, recently losing a very near and dear person, so don’t expect him to be cheerful or optimistic about anything.
Even though he isn’t very talkative, he seems to know a story about everything and everyone.

He’s a kid around 10 or 11 years old - you’re not sure and he won’t tell.
He used to live in an orphanage, so he didn’t have it easy in life. It did not become better when the apocalypse happened - he found himself roaming around, alone and frightened, looking for something to eat.
He is always hungry, that’s for sure, and looking at this skinny boy you can tell he skipped dinner more than once. When not eating or looking for food, he seems rather cheerful, quite silly and a bit naive.
He used to have a stuffed toy tiger, but he lost it somewhere.

This is you and your possible team - however not everyone that you meet throughout the game will be as friendly and willing to cooperate, so be careful!
If you want to know more about the game and never miss an important announcement or maybe you just want more sneak peeks - sign up to our mailing list today!
Thank you to everyone who has supported the game and left us feedback. I look forward to sharing even more with you in the new year!

Update: Content Complete and Moving Forward

Hey folks! Dora here. I'm Scriptwelder's producer alongside his publisher, Armor Games Studios. I wanted to drop in to give you some insight into everything that's been happening with his latest (and biggest) adventure.

As you may know, Scriptwelder is a solo developer based in Poland. He's been heads down on this game for a long time now, and we're happy to announce the game is finally content complete! What that means is that all of the story, chapters, puzzles, art, etc are "done" and the game is moving forward into QA. It's been a long road to get to this point, and along the way we've had several batches of wonderful beta testers who have helped us by sharing their thoughts and feedback at several points throughout development.

Of course, that doesn't mean the game itself is done! QA is a long process, especially for a game as big as this one turned out to be. Scriptwelder is rolling up his sleeves to deal with a lot of bug reports and other fixes, while on our end we're working on localisation and editing. (We'll announce the additional languages once those are locked in!) Combine that with other work like the launch trailer, and you have a whole lot to keep us busy. All of it boils down to us polishing the game up and crushing every single bug we can on the road to release. And speaking of...

At this point, the best release date I can give you is Q1 2019. Which, yeah, I know, is still sort of vague, but we'd rather surprise you than need to walk it back because we found a bunch of gamebreaking bugs, or a piano fell on Scriptwelder and his PC. We promise, we're just as eager for you guys to finally get your hands on this, and as soon as we have something more concrete locked down you'll be the first to know!

In the meantime, you'll be seeing some more sneak peeks and previews here every few weeks. Today I've gone through and updated all of the (very out of date) screenshots by adding 12 new ones. I'm going to be putting together a preview that shows off some of the chapter variations a bit more clearly, so I hope you'll look forward to it.

Thank you to everyone who has wishlisted and supported us so far, whether with a kind word or just a stray thought now and then. Follow Scriptwelder on Twitter and stay tuned!

About This Game

Following a bizarre cataclysmic event that cracked the moon in half, the Earth is struggling with the environmental fallout. Everything is already dead or dying... except you. Or so you think. Don't Escape: 4 Days in a Wasteland is a post-apocalyptic thriller from veteran developer Scriptwelder, creator of the popular horror series Deep Sleep and Don't Escape. Players must figure out a way to properly fortify their home against each night's new danger, as they learn the truth behind the apocalypse and search for a way to safety, if one exists.

Players will journey alongside David, a lone survivor after the end of the world, who finds himself having prophetic dreams... or nightmares. Each chapter of the game has multiple potential variations to encounter, from poisonous fog or spiders to a gang of murderous thugs or a deadly heat wave, and as a result, you'll need to adjust your strategy on different playthroughs. But you don't have forever. Certain actions advance the in-game clock, and you'll need to complete your preparations to (hopefully) stay alive before night falls.

Will you make it through all four days? Will your companions?

  • A classic pixelart aesthetic and creepy atmosphere from a veteran of horror and thrillers.
  • Logical puzzles and exploration to challenge players without frustrating them.
  • Time mechanics; certain actions advance the clock in a race against time.
  • A post-apocalyptic thriller, with an engaging storyline and cast.
  • Moody and engrossing original musicial score.
  • Multiple variations for each chapter mean multiple playthroughs with new content.

About the Developer:
Poland-based developer Scriptwelder is a well known creator of creepy web-based games, perhaps the most iconic of which is the Deep Sleep series, which has won multiple awards and been played by millions all around the world. The Don't Escape series began as a web game that inverted the classic escape-the-room formula... rather than trying to find a way out, players were instead trying to find a way to secure themselves within, usually from some sort of threat or danger. Don't Escape: 4 Days in a Wasteland is his first full length premium game.
