What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Planetes started as a personal project, and has grown in to what it is now because of the community that has grown with it. We are still gaining information every day on what can make the game even better, and until we feel the game has reached it's full potential we cannot offer it as a fully released game. The game will continue to grow and change from the communities feedback throughout early access and will be offered at a lower price as long as it is in early access. - Thank you for understanding and being part of this game's growth.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Giving out dates is a risky thing to do and I would hate to break a promise to the community. However, I would be surprised and disappointed if we remained in Early Access for more than a year or two. Early Access is a period we would like to continually gather feedback from the players of our game so we can improve it even more. We will choose to end Early Access when we feel that the game has a reached a place that fit our original vision and also satisfies our player base.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“One of the biggest features we would like to have in the final release is a procedural generated universe with a large number of star systems. This procedural generation system is not something we have begun developing yet, and will not for quite some time until we feel the core of the game has been solidified. This procedural content generation is something that we would hope to include in the final release of the game.

Some additional features we feel strongly about and hope to add for the full version:
- In depth gear crafting system.
- More complete starting star system with additional planets, moons, asteroids and other points of interest.
- Expanded radar system that interfaces with certain long range ship weapons.
- Additional weapons and tools.
- A much longer list too large to fit here.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Overall it is rough, very rough, expect bugs, expect incompatibilities. Expect servers to crash and be offline.

The open world is ready to play, but currently there is just one star system with a handful of planets. As we move forward in development we will continue to add more planets, star systems and other points of interest.

Ship building currently features over 40 different parts you can use to make your own unique spacecraft. With additional being parts added regularly.

Crafting is still not fully implemented.

Reasons like these are why we feel that we cannot charge more for the game. And we feel that it is important to reward the players who are willing to work with us through the hard times of the game with a much lower sale price.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the price will go up as more features are added and the game becomes more complete.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Every step of the way. So far the playtesting feedback we have gotten from our small but growing community has been invaluable. We hope to continue this developer to player relationship that allows us to improve the game at a rapid pace.”

About This Game

In Planetes your aim is to survive, create and explore.

You will need to harvest resources, in order to construct bases, spacecraft, and items. Protect yourself from other players by creating better spacecraft or a stronger base. Explore space, finding asteroids and planets to land on.

If you travel through space you can find planets with simulated gravity and atmosphere. You can land on these planets, or crash land if your ship is not powerful enough. When you arrive you can find resources to harvest and area to build bases.

Before you can travel through space you will need to build a ship. If you don't like building in games, you won't have to do much to have a functional spacecraft. If you do like building, you will find a building system with 6 categories of spaceship components each with many different and unique parts offering many options for you to build your ship with.

Other players are dangerous, but you can also create alliances with them.
