What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“AirMech Wastelands is an online action RPG and will require wider testing and balancing than is possible for our team. Phase One of testing with our most dedicated AirMech Strike players has gone well, and we are ready for Phase Two.

Phase Two involves connecting AirMech Strike and AirMech Wastelands accounts. All inventory and unlocks from Strike will be available in AirMech Wastelands, and vice versa. This provides incredible value for players to have two different games (one F2P and PvP focused, the other an RPG PvE coop) and shared progression between them.

This is an exciting concept as an alternative to having players start over when a new game comes out. It has definitely been more work than we expected, but it is worth it. However, we do want to test it bit by bit, and Early Access makes the most sense for this.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect the Early Access phase to last approximately 1 month, since it is focused on technical testing. Leaving Early Access will not mean the end of development, but it will mean we are confident in the stability and ability to complete the campaign.

We currently update the build several times a week. Bugs are fixed, features are added or improved, and feedback from players incorporated.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The release version of AirMech Wastelands will have all missions balanced with appropriate rewards. Quests need to be improved and rewards set, more Parts need to be created and the drop rate tuned. Much of the final work involves filling in any missing content in the drop tables, fixing bugs, and tuning the play experience.

Once we exit Early Access, the framework is in place to expand the game with more missions and content. The Early Access line for us is when players feel they will have a complete experience and the core systems are well defined. Players who like to help test and give feedback on design and balance will enjoy this Early Access phase. For players who want to focus on the game, and are not interested in participating in shaping the game, they would be best waiting until after we leave Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“AirMech Wastelands is playable from start to finish currently. Coop is supported for most of the campaign with the exception of initial training missions which are designed to be solo.

We are still adding features and loot, and actively balancing with feedback from our testers. It is very playable without any major issues.

There is an ingame feedback and bug reporting tool for anyone to use.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price of AirMech Wastelands will not change when we leave Early Access. Note that any player who became any VIP level in AirMech Strike before November 1st 2017 can get AirMech Wastelands for free right now. More info here:”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“As an online multiplayer game, the Community is very involved in the development process. All players can leave feedback using the ingame report/suggestion tool. We are particularly interested in gathering feedback from a wide range of players with different hardware configurations and skill levels. Our goal is to make the game accessible for everyone, and still challenging for the most hardcore players. Being able to play coop will hopefully be a nice bridge to let players help one another master the game.”

Alienware Head for AirMech Strike

This may or may not be interesting to you, but we are currently doing a key giveaway with Alienware Arena for an exclusive cosmetic head--the Alienware Head:

This code can only be used in AirMech Strike because it has a Shop and Wastelands doesn't. At some point, we'll add a way to enter codes in Wastelands, but since the Strike and AMW accounts are linked, if you install/run Strike and use the code there, you'll get the contents of the Alienware Arrival pack in Wastelands too. (not a duplicate, it's a shared account)

The Boosts don't work in Wastelands, just Strike, but the other things you might be interested in.

It's just a free extra, no big deal, I just wanted to post about it to verify that yes they do appear in AirMech Wastelands if claimed. You can go here to get it:

Or go to Alienware Arena and browse the Giveaways. This not a paid promotion on either side--just a mutually beneficial bonus for their audience and our players to help spread the word of AirMech.

If you are in Strike and are wondering where to enter the code, click Shop, and then look in the lower left:

About This Game

AirMech Wastelands is an Action-RPG set in an alternate future America following a global collapse of modern civilization. You are one of a few skilled survivors who are able to operate AirMechs and maintain them. You begin in the center of what used to be America where pockets of survivors remain, since the coastlines were reduced to ashes during the war.

You will rise up from scavenger to leader, adding AirMechs and the ability to build armies of your own to command. Will you discover the source of the continued attacks on humanity?

  • Top-down RPG with Mechs: AirMech reimagined as an RPG where you explore a huge area of the world, gaining power and fame along the way.

  • Create your own Pilot: Level up, improve stats and skills, customize your look. Your Pilot is the key to upgrading your AirMech with new parts.

  • Discover New AirMechs: Story arc has stealth missions on foot where you infiltrate enemy compounds to reclaim AirMech technology for the resistance. Unique abilities to level with every AirMech.

  • Equip your AirMech: Progressively more powerful Parts to construct the ultimate war machine. Loot drops from combat zones, earned as Quest rewards, or bought from Vendors across the land.

  • Solo* or Coop: Play through missions on your own or invite friends to help out. Group up with other players online with an intuitive location based matching system. (*AirMech Wastelands does not have an offline mode)

  • Uses your existing AirMech account: If you played AirMech on Steam before, your progress carries over to AirMech Wastelands. Plus gain exclusive gear that can be used in AirMech Strike!

  • Player Market: Buy and sell rare Cosmetic items with other players across multiple platforms. Become a trader or collector! (mostly interesting to Strike players, nothing tied to progression is found in the Market)

  • Endless Replayability: Timed events and story based variability. Run high level areas for legendary prototype parts for your mech. Tons of Quests and Achievements, Leaderboards, and even player created missions. Huge expansion to the AirMech universe.
