What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Astronominal brings exploration, mining, trade, fleet combat and planetary expeditions together in one sandbox. The core systems are playable, and we want player feedback to help shape progression, mission variety and how those systems work together as development continues.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are aiming for approximately 12–18 months in Early Access. This is a target rather than a fixed release date; the schedule may change as we respond to playtesting, technical work and community feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to deepen the existing exploration, faction, mission and research systems, improve the variety and presentation of encounters, and refine the economy and equipment progression. We also intend to improve stability, performance, controls and accessibility. These are development goals and may change as we learn from Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current alpha is single-player. It includes procedural star systems, planets and moons; ship flight and planetary landing; on-foot exploration and combat; asteroid and surface mining; salvage, refining, trading and crafting; ship and equipment upgrades; wingmen and drones; faction reputation and contracts; home-station construction; and an investigation leading to the Unknown mothership. Bugs, unfinished presentation and balance issues remain. Performance varies with location and settings. Updates may require save migration or a fresh pilot.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan to keep the same base price during Early Access and at the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to use Steam discussions and update posts to collect bug reports, balance feedback and suggestions. Reports describing what happened, the relevant location or mission, and hardware details will help us reproduce problems. Player feedback will inform priorities, without every suggestion becoming a promised feature.”

About This Game

One pilot. A small ship. A great deal of trouble out there.

Astronominal is a single-player space exploration sandbox with stylised 3D worlds and a handcrafted pixel interface. Start with a modest ship and turn each mining trip, rescue and salvage run into the means for your next expedition. Fly between procedural star systems, descend to alien surfaces, and decide what kind of pilot you want to become.

Make your living among the stars

Carve through asteroid shells to uncover richer cores. Pull loose resources aboard, recover cargo from wrecked freighters, and refine your haul into alloys, components and expedition supplies. Station stocks and regional prices give you reasons to explore, trade and plan your next upgrade.

Build a ship and a crew of your own

Buy specialised ships, fit and fabricate equipment, and customise your colours. Hire persistent wingmen with their own voices and personalities, deploy mining or combat drones, and give your fleet the tools for tougher work. Build a modular home station for storage, services and a place to return to.

Leave the cockpit

Land on planets and airless moons. Explore varied terrain, alien vegetation and weather; mine mineral deposits, harvest plants and recover equipment. Restore power at research compounds, confront hostile security drones, and prepare your suit for heat, cold and toxic conditions.

Choose your reputation

Protect convoys and answer distress calls, or prey on shipping and earn the pirates' trust. Your actions move your standing between the Alliance and pirates, changing station access, contracts and the company you keep. Multi-wave missions reward preparation and capable allies.

Investigate the Unknown

An organic enemy threatens everyone. Recover unusual salvage, investigate contaminated sites and research specialised equipment as you follow the clues towards a heavily guarded mothership. Bring more than bravery.

A frontier still taking shape

This Early Access alpha already includes space and on-foot exploration, mining, combat, trading, crafting, research, faction contracts and fleet progression. Development is ongoing: expect rough edges, balance changes and performance improvements. Future updates may require save migration or a fresh pilot. The current game is single-player.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI was used during development for some 3D models and textures, selected artwork including store artwork, and prerecorded character and ship-computer voices. These assets are selected, edited and integrated into the game. Astronominal does not generate AI content during gameplay.
