What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Hexball's core works today: full six-team matches, and a team you build up over many games. Much of what the game is meant to become isn't built yet: league seasons, tournaments, online play, a story mode and new teams. I want the people playing it to shape that part. Their feedback will decide which features come first, how the six teams are balanced and how the rules change, and Early Access is how I get that feedback while the game is still being made.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I expect about a year, depending on what players ask for along the way.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to add:
- League seasons with promotion and relegation, and cup competitions
- Tournaments
- Online multiplayer
- A story mode: take over an inherited team and rebuild it
- Team owners and sponsors
- New teams, more skills and free agents in the Market
- Arenas with obstacles
- Achievements and Steam Cloud saves
Player feedback will set the order, and may add things that aren't on this list.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Playable now: matches for 1 to 6 players on one PC, in any mix of people and computer coaches. All six teams; the Market, experience, level-ups, injuries, permanent losses and the Memorial; half events; Rivalry and Showdown modes; controller and mouse-and-keyboard play; 12 languages. The game is unfinished: expect bugs, rough edges and balance changes, and expect teams, skills and rules to change as players tell me what works and what doesn't.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will stay the same at full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through the Hexball Discord (linked on this page) and the Steam forums: feedback and playtest channels, patch notes for every update, and polls on what to build next, which set the order of the list above. I read every report.”

About This Game

Six teams. One pitch. Nobody is safe carrying the ball.

Hexball is a turn-based tactics game on a hexagonal pitch. Six teams take the field at once, with metal balls everywhere and goal holes that score for their owner, however the ball gets there. Shove a rival's carrier into your hole, knock them into a wall, throw a teammate across the pitch: if the ball goes in, it counts.

Chaos you can plan around

Every block, dodge, catch and pass shows its exact chance before you commit. No hidden modifiers, no secret luck protection. Weigh the odds, make the call, then watch the roll decide.

Every player is someone you chose, and someone you can lose

Hire your squad in the Market, name them, and build them up match by match. Players earn experience and pick new skills as they level up. They also get injured, and some never come back. The fallen are remembered on your team's Memorial.

Six teams from across time

The Shogunate, The Jarls, The Legion, The Pharaohs, The Stone Age and The Black Flag each bring their own player types, skills and signature moments. The Jarls go berserk, the Stone Age swings for the Home Run, the Pharaohs call down the Ra Beam, and the Black Flag shout Bombs Away.

Painted miniatures, brought to life

Hexball looks like a painted tabletop set lit for a photo: detailed miniatures on a diorama pitch.
