I made a little turn-based puzzle game out of free emoji. Grab the gems, reach the exit, stay out of the guards’ way. Simple! Except something got into my levels, and it keeps moving things while you play. So I drew you some tools: Cut, Copy, Paste and Nudge. Edit them back.

About This Game

Something dark and mysterious has awakened underneath the land of Emoji. The Murder Death God has returned. You must solve its labyrinth to keep the world safe.

That’s the plot. I’m pretty proud of it.

I made a little puzzle game as if it were living in a slide deck (sorry, corporate day job). Everyone in it is an emoji anyone can use for free (the Noto set): you, the guards, the bats, the eyes, one very large stone head. The rest is mostly boxes, arrows and my red pen. It was going great. Then something from outside got into it and started making changes. In other words, it’s basically Expedition 33 but PowerPoint.

It started as a simple turn based puzzle game

I kept the rules simple. You move, and everything else moves with you. Guards walk their routes, bats come after you, and if an eye sees you, that’s it. Grab every gem and get to the exit. That’s the whole game. (it was supposed to be the whole game.)

Someone is editing my levels

I put that boulder in the middle. I know I did. Now it’s in the corner, with a dashed box around it that I didn’t draw. I don’t know who’s doing this yet.

I drew you some tools

If it can edit my levels, so can you. Cut a wall out of your way. Paste it back in front of an eye. Change a guard’s route so he’s anywhere but where you need to go. You only get so many, so don’t spend them on walls you could walk around.

Hold Tab

And I’ll show you where everyone’s walking and what every eye can see. It’s not cheating, I drew them for you. I want you to win. Mostly.

what’s in it

  • >50 levels (just you wait until New Game+). The first few go quick. I’m sorry about the rest.

  • A couple of bosses

  • 7 edit tools: Cut, Copy, Paste, Nudge, Change Route, Rotate and Format Painter

  • 3 stars if you solve a level in par, and Steam leaderboards for fewest moves and fastest time

  • My Slides: make your own levels and send the deck to a friend (or an enemy)

  • Save & Quit whenever, and it picks up right where you left off

  • keyboard or controller

Yes, the whole name is Super Emoji Murder Death God Labyrinth. it’s a lot. I know.

Thanks for reading this far!! :)

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

The music, in the game and the trailers, was made with generative AI, using Suno on a paid plan that allows commercial use. I had a lot of fun making it, which was my purpose for this project :)

Nothing else in the game is AI-generated. The art is the free-to-use Noto Emoji set, shapes drawn in code (like the boxes and spikes), free open-license fonts, and a few assets bought from the Unity Asset Store. The sound effects were bought from the Unity Asset Store or made with jsfxr. Everything is credited in the game credits for traceability.
