About This Game

Your crew is expendable. Head office says so.

Vexley Mining Corp has bought a hole on Mars, and it's your job to make it deeper. Dig tunnels, build rooms, bore the shaft down floor by floor and send the ore up on the shuttle, while a crew of tiny, hopeless miners does the actual work. They get hungry. They get tired. They get bored, they need the toilet, and they will absolutely fall asleep on the ladder if you let them.

Simple on the surface, deep underneath

Drag to dig. Click to build. That's all you need to start. Underneath, every room feeds another:
  • Drill rigs dig ore, more the deeper they sit, and bore their own pipes into the rock below.
  • Canteens, bunks, rec rooms, lounges and toilets keep the crew from quitting (or worse).
  • Generators power it all. Build too much and the lights dim and everything slows down.
  • Air scrubbers and the air plant up top keep everyone breathing.
  • Infirmaries, training rooms, safety offices, greenhouses, refineries and labs turn a hole into a base.

Run the supply line

The shuttle lands every thirty seconds. It sells your ore, brings new crew for empty posts, and carries what you order: food crates, air canisters and spare parts, all fighting for room in the cargo bay. Run short of food and the canteen closes. Run short of air and... well.

Mars fights back

Meteor showers smash the landing pad and the air plant. Quakes crack the rooms. Machines break down and get worse until a builder gets there with a spanner. Marsh gas bubbles up the drill pipes. Something very large is asleep at the bottom.

Make it yours: the sprite editor

Every sprite in the game is just pixels, and every one can be redrawn. Press F2 to open the built-in sprite editor and repaint the crew, the rooms, the rock, the shuttle and the interface. Save your changes as a sprite pack, then switch packs on from MODS on the title menu. Give the crew a bigger helmet. Make the canteen worse. Your hole, your rules.

A campaign of eight sites

From Groundbreaking to The Core Sings: eight mine sites across Mars, each with its own goals, its own trouble and new rooms to unlock. Win gold, silver or bronze helmets, earn commendations, and spend them at HQ on repair drones, a bigger shuttle, better bunks and hazard pay. Then try the sandbox, where everything is unlocked.

Lots of cartoon mishaps

Banana peels. Puddles. Ladders. Live wires. Marsh gas. Every crew member has a name and a personality: the clumsy, the lazy, the keen, the glutton, the insomniac, the brave, the chatty and the lucky. They chat, they high-five, they cheer when the shaft goes deeper, and they panic when the ceiling cracks. Keep them alive. Or at least keep the fruit basket budget down.

Chunky 90s pixel art

Every sprite is built pixel by pixel in a chunky 90s style, with no image generators and no smoothing, and there's a 90s-style soundtrack to dig to.
