About This Demo

Circuits: VLSI Demo introduces chip layout through the 10 puzzles in the first chapter. Draw paths on a silicon chip and use the oscilloscope to see whether the circuit produces the required signals.

Begin with a connection

Connect one input to an output, branch a signal toward two outputs, and keep separate signals apart. Then combine metal, polysilicon, and contacts to make paths cross without joining.

See why the shape matters

Use resistance to divide a supply voltage and observe the delay in a signal. Compare a narrow polysilicon strip with a wider one, then build a resistor ladder that produces several output voltages. The simulation and target bands show how each edit changes the result.

Inspect and revise

Puzzle guides, hints, and reference drawings explain the ideas and help you check your work. View the layout from above, in Isometric View or Perspective View, and through a cross section. Undo and redo let you revise a connection, and saved demo progress lets you return to a puzzle later.

Demo contents

  • 10 puzzles from the first chapter.
  • Draw metal paths, polysilicon strips, and contacts.
  • Explore separate signals, crossings, resistance, voltage division, and signal delay.
  • Compare simulated outputs with the target bands on the oscilloscope.
  • Use puzzle guides, hints, reference drawings, and design-rule feedback.
  • Inspect the layout in Top, Isometric, and Perspective views, with a cross section.
  • Save your demo progress and undo or redo drawing edits.

This demo contains chapter one only. Sandbox and the later chapters are not included.
