What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Heroes of Underhollow’s core combat and four-floor campaign are playable. We want to work with players to refine hero balance, build variety, and encounter difficulty while continuing development toward the full release.
Early Access will also give us an opportunity to gather feedback as we develop multiplayer, helping us understand how players approach the dungeon both alone and together.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last approximately 3–6 months. This is an estimate and may change depending on the work needed to refine game balance and develop multiplayer. We will share significant changes to this timeframe through our Steam announcements.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version to include multiplayer alongside the existing single-player experience. We also intend to refine hero abilities, skill trees, equipment, and encounter difficulty so that a wider range of builds offers rewarding ways to complete a run.
Throughout Early Access, we plan to address bugs and improve usability based on player feedback. These are our current development goals; their scope and timing may change as development progresses.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version offers a playable single-player campaign spanning four dungeon floors, with three selectable heroes: Warden, Ranger, and Magus. Every campaign begins in the Ossuary, with later floors drawn from nine additional dungeon themes.
Combat features action points, free movement, interacting elemental surfaces, cover, high ground, knockback, and separate physical and magical defences. Each hero has a branching skill tree with 33 upgrades, including late-run masteries.
Players can plan routes, collect rewards, customize equipment, discover trinkets, visit merchants and shrines, and resolve events. Saving and continuing runs and a separate Free Fight mode are also available.
Balance and difficulty are still being refined. Multiplayer is planned and is not currently included.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. We plan a small increase to the base price when Underhollow leaves Early Access. We will announce the change in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will gather feedback through Steam Discussions and our Discord community. Bug reports, build experiences, balance suggestions, and feedback on multiplayer as it develops will help guide our priorities.
We plan to share development updates and patch notes through Steam announcements and Discord, including explanations of significant changes and how community feedback has informed them.”

About This Game

Underhollow is a single-player tactical roguelike that combines free-movement, turn-based combat with a branching dungeon descent. Lead one hero through four dangerous floors, building your abilities and managing the resources that keep you alive.

Every fight leaves its mark. Health, physical armour, magic resistance, and supplies carry between encounters. Winning the room is only part of surviving the run.

Choose your hero

  • Warden: Build Momentum through movement, smash through armour, and send enemies crashing into hazards.

  • Ranger: Build Focus for powerful bow shots, control your distance, and reshape the battlefield with elemental arrows.

  • Magus: Alternate spell elements to build Attunement, setting up combinations of water, lightning, frost, and fire.

Each hero has a branching skill tree with six paths and late-run mastery upgrades. Combine paths, learn abilities, and assemble equipment and trinkets around your chosen approach.

Turn the battlefield into a weapon

Spend action points to move freely, attack, and combine abilities. Use cover and high ground, break enemy defences, and create openings for disabling effects.

Ignite oil slicks. Electrify connected water. Freeze wet ground or raise clouds of steam to block sightlines. Drive enemies into pits, burning surfaces, or each other with charges, hooks, and knockback. The room offers more ways to win than damage alone.

Plan your descent

Chart a forward route through interconnected dungeon chambers. Weigh dangerous elite encounters against merchants, treasure, shrines, and events with choices and consequences. Spend your gold, choose your rewards, and decide when recovery matters more than another upgrade.

Every campaign begins in the Ossuary. Later floors draw from nine themed destinations, including the Sunken Foundry, Rootbound Cathedral, Glass Sepulchre, and Hollow Observatory, each with its own enemies, hazards, and boss.

Defeat the fourth floor’s boss to complete your descent—or begin again with another hero, another build, and another route.
