What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“For We Are Many is already a large, fully playable game, alone and in online co-op for up to four players. We want players in now because a tower defense with a twin-stick shooter in it lives and dies by its balance, and that is best tuned together with the people playing it: which towers, weapons and abilities feel strong or weak, how hard each level should be, and how co-op plays across different PCs, controllers and networks.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Early Access to last a few months. How long exactly depends on what players tell us and on how much there is to improve, and we would rather take a little longer than leave the full version rough.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to use Early Access to polish and balance the campaign, its levels and its bosses with player feedback, to improve the controls and the interface (including button icons for controllers), to add Steam achievements and cloud saves, and to translate the game into more languages. Where players ask for more content, such as levels, enemies or towers, we want to add it as well.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version contains a campaign with several chapters and a boss at the end of each, a fortress hub between missions, 13 towers with three stages each, 8 weapons and 4 characters with their own abilities, progression that carries over between levels, and online and LAN co-op for up to four players. It is fully playable with mouse and keyboard or with a controller, in English and German. Balance, difficulty and some levels are still being tuned, and you may run into bugs.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price when the game leaves Early Access, so players who join early get it for less.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We read every report and suggestion in the Steam discussions and use them to decide what comes next. Updates come with patch notes that say what changed and why, and when a decision about balance or content is open, we will ask the players directly.”

About This Game

The gates of Hell have opened. An ancient evil has unleashed its unholy army upon the Earth, and the seals that hold back the abyss are all that stand between humanity and eternal damnation.

You are humanity's last line of defense. Build your towers, bring down devastating firepower, and fight on the front lines to protect the seals from the endless hordes of Hell. If they fall, so do Heaven and Earth.

Build your defense

Thirteen kinds of towers, each with three stages you can see on the battlefield: machine guns, railguns, mortars, flak, arc pylons, lightning towers, fire and frost plates, blade walls and more. Raise walls to force the horde down long, winding paths, and decide where every coin goes: one more tower, or one more wall. Amplifiers strengthen what stands beside them, depots resupply your ammunition, and income towers pay out after every wave.

Fight on the front lines

You are not just a cursor. Walk the battlefield with twin-stick controls and eight weapons: machine gun, shotgun, railgun, grenade launcher, flamethrower, lightning gun, katana and chainsaw. Upgrade them in the middle of a level, dodge-roll over your own walls and towers, and grab what the fallen leave behind: money, ammunition, scrap and health. Fall in battle and your friends can pull you back up.

Unleash powerful abilities

Four characters, each with an ability charged by your own kills. Call down a lightning storm, freeze the horde in its tracks, rally your towers to fire twice as fast, or sprint through the fight at double speed.

Face the hordes of Hell

Zombies, abominations, slimes, giant spiders, flying horrors and titans. Some make the others invulnerable, some silence your towers, some call up more of their kind. And at the end of each chapter a boss waits, with powers of its own.

4-player online co-op

Hold the line alone or with up to three friends, online or on your local network. Every player brings their own progression and their own funds into the game, and every kill your towers make is shared.

A war that goes on between the battles

Between missions you return to a fortress around the mother seal. Talk to its people, unlock blueprints, and buy upgrades for your towers, weapons and characters that carry over from level to level. Out on the battlefield, night falls, fog rolls in and storms break as the waves grow stronger.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some of the in-game text (character dialogue, bestiary and compendium entries, interface text) and its English and German versions were written with the help of AI and then reviewed and edited by us. The application icon was created with the help of AI image generation. All other artwork, animation, visual effects, music and sound effects in the game were made without generative AI.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Players fight hordes of zombies, demons and other creatures from Hell with firearms, melee weapons and towers. Hits produce stylized blood splatter and defeated enemies remain on the ground for a while. The game is shown from a distant isometric view, with no dismemberment. It has a dark horror setting with religious themes (Hell, demons, biblical references). There is no sexual content.
