What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Voltform is a two-player online co-op puzzle game built around communication and asymmetric information. Many aspects of the game—including puzzle difficulty, clue readability, co-op timing, and player guidance—can only be evaluated properly when different kinds of players experience them together. Early Access allows us to gather feedback on the puzzles, online stability, controls, pacing, and accessibility as we continue refining the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last for approximately 12 months. The actual duration may change depending on player feedback, online testing results, and the time required to polish the planned content. Our priority is to bring the core experience to an appropriate level of quality rather than follow a rigid deadline.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to continue the current story with additional stages and more cooperative mechanics involving asymmetric information, different player permissions, and changes to the characters’ physical states. We also plan to further improve online stability, interaction feedback, player guidance, visual and audio presentation, performance, and accessibility options.
The exact scope may change based on testing and community feedback during Early Access, so these plans should not be considered a final commitment to every listed feature or piece of content.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version contains 19 playable two-player cooperative stages, along with core features such as online rooms, Steam friend invitations, character selection, stage selection, and progress tracking.
The early stages focus on text terminals, document verification, and equipment operation. As power is restored, the game transitions into a 2D pixel world and gradually introduces separated routes, cross-power systems, shared-body controls, weight-state switching, tool handoffs, different player perspectives, base defense, underground facilities, and city exploration.
The core progression is playable, while parts of the artwork, animation, audio, guidance, balance, and online experience are still being refined. Some content also requires further testing with real online pairs and a wider range of hardware.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to launch Early Access at a lower initial price and may gradually increase the price as significant content and features are added. The price may also increase when the game leaves Early Access. Any planned price changes will be communicated in advance through Steam announcements.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to collect feedback through the Steam Discussions, announcements, and update notes. We are particularly interested in where players become confused, where clues feel excessive or insufficient, whether the two roles feel equally meaningful, how smoothly players can retry after a mistake, and how the game performs across different network and hardware conditions.
Bug reports, gameplay recordings, system and network information, and community discussions will help us prioritize fixes and adjustments. We intend to preserve the game’s overall narrative direction, while using community feedback as an important guide for controls, puzzle readability, online play, accessibility, and pacing.”

About This Game

The power is out. You’re still alive. You’re just a line of text.

Voltform is a two-player online co-op puzzle adventure about two digital-life researchers trying to restore power—and get their bodies back.

Your experimental technology lets digital consciousness take physical form, provided there’s enough electricity. After a citywide blackout, emergency reserves can barely keep you alive as text. You’ll have to communicate through maintenance terminals, repair the systems around you, and gradually regain the ability to move through the world yourselves.

The good news? You’re not alone.

The bad news? Your partner has never dealt with this either.

You don’t have the whole picture.

A wiring diagram on one terminal. A maintenance notice on the other. A reading that’s only visible from across a sealed door. The information you need is often split between you.

Describe what you see, compare notes, and work out your next move together. Many mechanisms let you confirm your actions one at a time. Understanding each other matters more than pressing a button at exactly the same moment.

And when the plans don’t match the equipment, maybe don’t blame your partner just yet.

Restore the power. Restore yourselves.

At first, you can only understand your surroundings through text and terminal diagrams. Recover your two-dimensional bodies, and you can finally walk, explore, and operate machinery in person.

Having a body brings its own complications.

Limited power may leave you sharing control of a single body or taking turns carrying its weight. Crossing a broken passage might require one of you to pull while the other holds everything in place. As your capabilities return, the way you cooperate changes—until you have a chance to regain your three-dimensional forms.

Something else is wrong with this city.

The equipment is running, but the rooms are empty.

The repairs are signed off, but the records haven’t changed.

You set out to restore power. Along the way, the evidence becomes harder to explain. Travel through preservation facilities, old research sites, and sealed-off streets. Help those still waiting, and keep a record of the things that don’t add up.
