About This Game

One solution, never a guess

Every stone has its own fate, turning light or dark to reveal the one solution. And the runes carved into the board guide you to the truth: how large a region may grow, how far a stone can see, where a pattern must mirror, and which shapes may never appear.

Only one solution satisfies the runes

The Maker guarantees it. Every board is checked by the Maker’s solver before it enters the game. Any board with more than one solution, or any ambiguity, is rejected.

So if you are stuck, look to the runes or the symbols on the board. They contain all the information you need to reason your way closer to the solution. Nothing is hidden. Nothing needs to be guessed.

And as a last resort, if you still cannot find the solution, the Seer will reveal your next step—for a small token of gratitude.

A map, not a ladder

The journey is a web. More than a thousand boards woven together, and the difficulty rises the farther you travel from the center in every direction. No single route and no fixed order. Choose your direction, follow the threads, and see where they lead.

Each direction follows its own set of rules. Neighboring paths differ by just one, so moving sideways is not a step back, but a chance to learn a new way forward.

Every cluster in the web is guarded by a Warden: its hardest board. Defeat the Warden, and the web opens further. Meet one you cannot overcome, and you may pay a toll to pass it by. The price is high, and the Warden remains, waiting to be defeated and still worth its full score.

The market sells tools, never answers

What you earn along the way can be spent on tools to aid your journey. Measure the region beneath your cursor. Fill an entire region with a single press. Ask the Seer to reveal your next step, at the cost of a tenth of the board’s value.

And then there are the Ravens. Call upon them, and they will watch over your work, marking mistakes with a red ring and keeping count of your errors. Until then, the game remains silent. No warnings. No judgment. You must trust your own reasoning.

The rules are always free to read. The tools may help you see, measure, and move forward, but none of them can buy a victory.

Regardless of how you find the solution: by studying the rules, calling upon your tools, or trusting your own reasoning, a solved board turns gold all the same.

A different kind of challenge

Beyond the Journeys lie six Challenges, each testing your reasoning in a different way.

Race against the clock for five minutes. Climb through fifteen boards, from gentle to legendary. Face five hard boards with every tool taken away, or three legendary boards with every tool at your disposal. Solve seven in a row without placing a single stone wrong.

Every Challenge has its own seed: a number that lets you replay the same run whenever you want. Share that number with a friend, and they can face the same boards, in the same order, and see who fares better.

Build your own, and play anyone's

The Maker is yours to use.

Draw a grid. Carve holes into it. Place your runes and shape the rules. As you build, the same solver that verifies every board in the Journeys works beside you, telling you whether your creation has one solution, many, or none.

Start with an empty board and create something entirely your own, or choose a set of rules and let the Maker generate a board for you. A manual and guided tour are there when you need them.

When your board is ready, share it with a friend and challenge them to solve it, or play the boards they send back.

Custom boards are their own sandbox, separate from Journeys and Challenges. There are no scores or titles to chase here. Just boards to create, share, and solve. And if you leave a custom board half-solved, it will be waiting just as you left it when you return.

Built, not skinned

The board is a real slab beneath a real camera. Turn it, and the light moves with it. Play on limestone set against basalt, timber against a night-stained board, or return to the simple flat tiles where Nordstones began.

Light and dark are separated by brightness, not color. Every board is tested to ensure that difference remains clear, making Nordstones playable regardless of color vision without requiring a separate mode or setting.

And everything the game asks you to understand is there to learn. A fifteen-page rulebook teaches every rune using live boards already verified by the Maker’s solver.

Three save profiles keep separate Journeys, Challenges, and creations ready for whoever takes the next seat.
