Make time a little more tangible

Desktop Hourglass brings a small, physically simulated hourglass to your Windows desktop. Pixel sand streams through the neck, piles up, and settles as you move and flip the glass. Refractive glass bends the desktop behind it, making the hourglass feel like an object sitting among your open windows.

Set a timer for a focus session or a break, or leave it on your desk as a small kinetic sculpture. Grab it, turn it, and watch the sand respond.

Find a style for your desktop

Choose a preset to suit your desktop, apply it instantly, and customize it from there. Save your own designs and return to your favorites whenever you like.

Shape your own hourglass

Change sand colors, glass tint, lighting, surface detail, and pixel size. Sculpt the glass silhouette with curve controls, adjust its wall thickness, and style the optional clock display. Tune movement resistance, spin, and orientation attraction to change how it feels in your hands.

Save your favorite designs to My Presets or import a shared .dhpreset file. Your saved designs stay in your local preset library.

Watch sand respond to movement

Drag to rotate, use the mouse wheel to turn the glass in quarter turns, or right-drag to move it around your desktop. Release it and watch the motion settle while the grains tumble, flow, and build new piles.

Set the time you need

Choose a duration in hours, minutes, and seconds. Play, pause, or reset from the timer menu, or use quick clicks on the hourglass. Sand flow adjusts to the remaining time, and an optional time display appears in the glass. Pomodoro settings give work and break periods their own durations and sand colors.

See your activity in the sand

Keyboard and mouse-button activity can color the sand as it flows, leaving a visible history in the settled grains. Hide or reveal the activity colors whenever you like.

Make room for it on your desk

Keep the hourglass above ordinary windows or park it on the desktop layer. Choose small, medium, or large sizing, and enable or disable launching with Windows in Settings. The transparent area around the glass lets clicks reach the windows behind it.

Whether you use it to mark a few minutes or simply enjoy the motion, Desktop Hourglass makes passing time visible.
