Detroit, 1998. Investigate crimes through an old police OS: examine documents, connect clues and test alibis. Choose whom to accuse, a motive and evidence for court. Your theory could put an innocent person behind bars. Will you spot the evidence that proves it wrong?

About This Game

A closed case isn't always a solved case.

Detroit, 1998. You are Detective Carter. Following your transfer, you've been assigned a department terminal and a backlog of cases. Statements, forensic reports and recordings arrive in fragments. To work out what happened, you'll have to decide which pieces support each other—and which merely make for a convenient explanation.

The entire investigation takes place on your computer

Work in an old police operating system with a pixel-art interface. Read reports, examine camera footage, search databases and interview people involved in each case through official communication channels. Save facts in your digital notebook and jot down theories of your own.

Find a reason to dig deeper

Does a document mention a significant detail? Decide where to check it. Send requests to the lab and other departments, establish grounds for searches, and revisit statements with new information. Compare sources and piece together a timeline: sometimes a date you initially overlooked changes everything.

Choose what actually proves guilt

A lie doesn't always conceal a murder. A trace on an object doesn't tell you when it was left. Your conclusion must name a person, a motive and a limited selection of evidence. Decide which clues stand up to scrutiny and which simply reinforce your first impression.

A convincing theory can still be wrong

A weak accusation will be sent back for review. But a sufficiently convincing one may be accepted—even against an innocent person. The court's decision will appear in the archive; later reports will reveal the consequences of your conclusions.

Some questions outlast the cases

At first, you face an ordinary backlog of investigations. Gradually, questions emerge that no closed case can answer. Pay attention to the details: some will send you back to your notes.
