A year after a bio-engineered organism drowned the world in mutation, an infected ex-captain steers his battered boat into a flooded, hand-painted swamp to find his lost family. Explore, scavenge fuel, and fight the twisted creatures of the mire, before the infection takes you too.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Miredrift's full story and world will be playable from day one of Early Access. We are a small team, and we want to use Early Access to polish the game together with players: to find and fix bugs, improve performance on a wide range of PCs, fine-tune combat and balance, and refine the experience based on real player feedback before the 1.0 release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Miredrift to stay in Early Access for approximately 3 to 6 months, depending on player feedback and the amount of polish needed.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version will already contain the complete story, the full swamp world and all creature types. For the full release we plan to focus on bug fixes, performance optimization, combat and difficulty balancing, quality-of-life improvements, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud saves and additional language support. Depending on community feedback, we may also add extra content and improvements.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version will be the complete game: the full story from the opening to the ending, cockpit boat travel across the entire flooded swamp, all islands and regions, all mutated creature types and boss fights, the Save Point system, and the hand-painted world with dynamic fog and water. What remains is polish: some bugs, performance optimization and balancing that we want to improve with player feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The price will increase when the game leaves Early Access and reaches its 1.0 release. Players who buy during Early Access will get the game at a lower price and will receive all future updates and the full 1.0 version at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will actively read and respond to feedback in the Steam Community discussions, share regular updates and detailed patch notes, and prioritize bug fixes, performance improvements and balance changes based on what players report. Bug reports and suggestions from players will directly shape the 1.0 release.”

About This Game

The swamp took everything. Now it's taking you.

One year ago, Project NEREID, a self-replicating organism made to clean the world's water, escaped during a catastrophic flood. It mutates every living thing it touches. The company behind it buried the truth.

You are a white-haired former boat captain. You are already infected, and your arm is slowly turning to scales. You wake up in your damaged boat to your family's voice crackling over the radio. Somewhere out in the drowned maze of the mire, they're waiting for you. Or so you believe.

Navigate a Flooded Maze by Boat

Pilot your boat from the cockpit through a vast swamp of narrow channels, dead forests, rotting docks and stilt shacks. Fuel is scarce. Every trip is a decision, and an empty tank leaves you dead in the water.

Explore, Scavenge, Uncover the Truth

Dock at hidden islands to search for keys, machine parts, fuel and the documents that reveal what really happened to your family, and to the world.

Fight the Creatures of the Mire

Face 30 mutated creatures, each with its own attacks and behaviour: leaping hunters, acid spitters, burrowing ambushers, beasts that strike from the water, and colossal bosses.

A World Painted by Hand

A stylized, hand-painted world with wet, glossy surfaces, rich colour and thick volumetric fog rolling over the water.

Fight the Infection

Hunt for an experimental stabilizer that might slow your mutation, and decide how much of your humanity you're willing to trade for power.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some 3D models and textures in Miredrift were created with the help of generative AI tools and then edited, re-textured and stylized by our team to match the game's hand-painted art direction. Parts of the store page text were drafted with AI assistance and reviewed and edited by the developer. The story, game design, characters and art direction are our own. No AI-generated content is created during gameplay, and the game does not connect to any AI service.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Frequent violence against grotesque mutated creatures, fought with firearms and melee weapons, including creature blood, acid and death animations. All combat is against non-human monsters. The story contains mature themes: the death of family members (not shown graphically), body-horror mutation, and a dark post-apocalyptic setting. No sexual content, nudity or self-harm.
