What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The core of the game is done: you can eat your way from rabbit-sized to titan, alone or with friends, across a whole generated world and its legendary quests. What a sandbox needs after that is time and players. We want to see how you break it, which sizes feel thin and what you build, and let that set the order of everything that comes next.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About a year. We plan to leave Early Access in the first half of 2028.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More of everything your size touches: new creatures and places at every size band, more legendary quests, more Runic Coin abilities and building pieces, bosses for the late bands, and a finished last stand against Sólgrymr. Online play, controller support and balance will keep getting attention along the way.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Playable start to finish, solo or online with friends through Steam or over LAN. The generated world, all six size bands from Underfoot to Godhood, the Runic Coin and its eighteen abilities, building, flowing water and lava, rival Gold Eaters and the legendary quests are all in. Expect rough edges, balance changes and the odd bug.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. The price stays the same at full release, and everyone who buys during Early Access gets every update.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through the Steam discussion forums and patch notes. Bug reports and balance complaints from Early Access players decide what gets fixed and built next, and updates ship to Steam as soon as they’re ready.”

About This Game

You are a Gold Eater Dwarf.

Though the scorned sun god, Sólgrymr, has cursed your divine lineage, the blood of titans still flows through your veins. You long for revenge... to gorge upon the sun god's shining flesh and reclaim your golden godhood.

You must mine, slay, loot, quest, and feast upon the gold of the land. As you consume it, coin by coin, your titan form returns, ascending you to godhood.

Can you swallow the sun itself?

Your size is the game

You start the size of a rabbit. Every coin you eat makes you permanently bigger, and the world answers. The camera pulls back. Your pickaxe takes out a block the size of a cottage. The wolf that chased you through the grass is now something you step over. And something big enough can still flatten you, so you learn to hide in holes until you have eaten enough to stop hiding.

What you'll do

  • Hear a fairy tale, then go and find it. Papa Hreidmar reads you one a day, and every story is a quest out there, waiting for you to be big enough: Thor's hammer at a giant's wedding, the troll under the bridge, the cloud giants' harp, Andvari's ring, the Sword in the Stone, the Holy Grail, the Golden Fleece, Fafnir's hoard, and the Palace of Midas.
  • Grow your Runic Coin, a sphere grid with three paths: Metallurgy, Valhal, and Greed. Your first rune picks your opening power: Glintbolt, Titan Leap, or Burrow. More abilities wait further out, each with three ranks, and relics from the great quests break the barriers in between.
  • Mine, build, and fight through meadows, forests, deserts, tundra, swamps, and mountains, with deep caves below and open seas where sharks and serpents wait for anything small enough to swallow. The blocks you dig and place grow with you: one tile at the start, whole hillsides by the end.
  • Break a dam and the lake comes with it. Water and lava run, pool, and level out. Rain fills the hollows you dug, and the sun dries them again. Tap a reservoir to flood a pit, or swim to the ore at the bottom.
  • Build a hall. Brick and plank walls, doors, beds, a furnace, an anvil, and a gold forge. Your friends can sleep there. Build it at your size, then watch it shrink to a doghouse as you grow.
  • Play together. Host a world for friends on your own machine, over LAN or online. Dig beside them, or turn on them. Your friends are full of gold too.
  • Swallow the sun. Grow from Underfoot to Godhood, until Sólgrymr has nowhere left to hide.

Plays with an Xbox controller, or mouse and keyboard.
