What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Riptide RPG is already a big, fully playable game - from your first steps in Moonshine to ruling the realm - but we want to finish it together with the people who play it. Early Access lets us balance combat, the City's economy and the endgame with real players, fix what you run into, and grow the world in the directions you enjoy most, while the game is still easy to change. As a small indie developer, your feedback is the best map we have.
”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We aim to leave Early Access in about 6-8 months. It may take longer: we will only call Riptide RPG finished when it is ready, and we would rather take the time than rush it.
”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to:
- add more to explore and conquer: new zones, bosses, creatures, mounts and ports
- keep balancing combat, loot, the City's economy and the endgame based on your feedback
- polish online co-op and add more ways to play together
- add new spell effects and more visual polish
- improve quality of life, accessibility and controller play based on what players ask for

What the full version contains will be shaped by what players enjoy and ask for.
”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is a complete, fully playable game:
- four races and four classes, level 60, up to 50 prestige levels and a talent tree for every class
- 12 leveling zones, five boss lairs, dungeons to explore, the Crypts, the Cow Level and the halls of Valhalla
- the Violet Halls raid, solo or in online co-op for up to five players
- the City: climb the peerage, run the realm's affairs and take the crown
- five ports to sail to, buy or conquer in real-time battles
- your own farm, 25 Tides with 300 hybrids, mounts, fishing, mining, smithing and a casino (in-game gold only)

Expect balance changes, the occasional bug and new content as we go. We plan to keep your heroes and progress through updates.
”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price gradually as the game grows, so the earliest players get it at the lowest price.
”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Riptide RPG is being built with its players and feedback. We plan to:
- read every review and discussion on the Steam Community hub, with a forum for bug reports and suggestions
- post regular development updates and patch notes as Steam events, and say which changes came from player feedback
- run polls on what to build next
- test big changes with the community on a beta branch before they go live

About This Game

The Forsaken curse has fallen over the realm of Riptide. Villages burn, the dead walk, and the old kings quarrel over what is left. Between the cursed fields and the halls of Valhalla, one commoner can still rise all the way to the throne. Fight every battle yourself, let AUTO do the grinding, or mix the two.

Rise in the Capital

  • Serve as the King's steward: set taxes, feed the people, commission public works, run the jail, court the council - and keep a moody King sweet
  • Weather protests, riots, the sweating sickness and Forsaken attacks on the city
  • Bend rival cities and ports to your will - and you might just seize the world

Fight Through Cursed Lands

  • 12 leveling zones, from the green Willowmere Fields through the snows of Ironcrag Pass and the sands of the Duskhollow Barrens to the walls of Emberdeep
  • Take on fearsome bosses in their lairs
  • Descend into the Crypts - a new labyrinth every time
  • Survive the Cow Level. You will not.
  • Fight your way into the halls of Valhalla
  • Storm the Violet Halls raid solo or with up to four friends in online co-op

Sail to War

  • Board the Black Tide with Captain Blackbeard and sail to rival ports
  • Buy rival cities and ports with gold - or hire sellswords, declare war and take them by force in real-time battles
  • Command your squads, burn the town and storm its seat of power - in Silverfjord, the King's own throne hall

Forge Your Hero

  • Choose from four races (Human, Dwarf, Orc, Undead) and four classes (Warrior, Mage, Hunter, Priest), each with its own perks and spells
  • Hit level 60, then Prestige - up to 50 times - and march the realm again as every foe grows stronger
  • Shape your class in its own talent tree, with a new talent point for every Prestige
  • Hunt rare gear and legendary weapons like Frostseeker, then upgrade your kit and enchant it with glowing runes
  • Play Hardcore if you dare: one life, and a fallen hero is gone for good

A Life Beyond the Blade

  • Build your own farm - barns, coops, cows, chickens and hay fields - that keeps working while you're away
  • Tame wild creatures called Tides in turn-based duels, then train and breed them
  • Ride different mounts across the realm
  • Fish, mine and smelt ore, and train your own blacksmith
  • Try your luck at the casino - with in-game gold only, never real money

Play Your Way: AUTO or by Hand

  • Grind on AUTO: your hero hunts the nearest foes, fights, casts spells and drinks potions on their own
  • Mix it with your own play: steer your hero while AUTO handles the spells and potions, or take over whenever you like
  • Choose which spells and potions AUTO may use, and switch it on or off at any moment
  • Dungeons, the Crypts and raids are yours to play by hand
  • A living world with a day-night cycle, rain, snow and sea mist

Riptide will not save itself. Take up your weapon.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Riptide RPG uses generative AI for some graphical assets, animations, and sound effects. AI tools have also assisted with translations into multiple languages. All content is reviewed and integrated by the developer. No AI-generated content is created during gameplay.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Riptide RPG is a fantasy action RPG drawn in a cartoon (chibi) style. Combat is constant: you fight monsters, undead, Norse gods and human bandits and soldiers with weapons and magic. Hits show small red blood splashes; defeated foes fall over and fade away, with no gore or dismemberment. In raids on rival ports you can set houses on fire. In the City you may order the deposed king's public hanging: a short cartoon scene shows the drop before the screen fades to black. A casino offers simulated gambling (slots, blackjack, roulette, card games and a chest duel against other players) and reward chests, all paid only with in-game gold earned by playing - no real money can be spent or won. Taverns, a rum trader and a comic drunk appear in the towns. An optional city building, the Velvet Lantern, is a licensed brothel; its adult courtesans walk the streets in low-cut gowns, and a few jokes carry mild innuendo. There is no nudity, and no sexual activity is shown.
