Your uncle Doc held the desert's small towns together. Now he's missing, and his old radio network is still on the air. Drive his wagon across the basin, record strange broadcasts, pack the tapes, build up your car and follow his work from town to town, by day and by night.

About This Game

Follow the signal

Take the freeway, a dirt road or open desert. Your receiver pulses faster as you close in on a broadcast. Stop inside its range and work the recording through a short minigame. Ordinary voices, odd little dramas and things that should not be transmitting at all share the same airwaves.

Make room for one more tape
Every recording has a shape. Pack the tapes into your car's cargo grid, decide what earns its space, and sell ordinary recordings to dealers with different tastes. Story transmissions go into your archive.

Find out who Doc was

Doc's work kept the basin's towns going. Follow it to the counters, workshops and roadside stops where people remember him, take on their deliveries and jobs, and piece together the life he led.

Build the car around the trip

Start in Doc's Receiver Wagon and work your way through twenty cars. Fit parts, raise the chassis, arrange receivers, scanners and field recorders in the signal bay, and turn rare one-of-a-kind finds into parts of your own.

A basin full of strange places

One continuous desert in nine zones, with roads that open as the story does: a city still waiting for its opening day, a town whose lights never fail, a skyline with an airship overhead, and a great deal of empty road between them.

Decide when to turn back

After dark the basin changes. The longer you stay out, the more the Dread rises, and something on the night roads wants your gas. You never leave the car: it is your recording rig, your cargo hold and your way home.

Go at your own pace
Your routes, your schedule, your night drives. Take on dares and races, deliveries, a depot to grow back into a town, and optional vehicle combat. No weapon is ever needed to finish the story.

Optional vehicle combat against raider cars has explosions but no blood or gore. Some characters smoke, and there is a blackjack table played only for free practice chips.
